I've played Eve-Online for 3.5 years. Stopped playing a year ago. Sold everything I had.
Main reason: lack of time after the birth of my 2nd daughter.
Now I'm looking for another MMORPG. I don't want to go back to Eve-Online and start from scratch again. I'm not up to date on what is available right now, so I'm asking for your help
What I'm looking for:
- A game that I can play only a few hours/week and still not fall far behing everybody else.
- A game that offers more than just monster killing and leveling. (I loved the skill training, research, production, mining side of Eve, as well as the PvP part).
- A game with a strong social part. Corp, Guild, whatever you call it. I'm not much of a solo fan. Voice comm is a major plus.
- A game with a certain level of maturity. I'm a 31 years old woman with 2 young girls. I'm not interested in a bunch of kiddos that only talk crap and ask for cybers*x.
- A newish game or if it' has been out there for a while, a game that I can start playing now and not have the feeling that I'm totally useless compared to the players that have been playing for 2-3-4 years.
- A game that I don't have to log on every night of the week and spend my whole week-end doing corp/guild ops if I want to remain in the corp/guild. Casual play only.
So anything suggestion for me?

Well, you will probably just want to post in the LFG Looking for Game forum.
Actually they will likely just move this thread there.
Good luck
To pick one aspect of your list as far as maturity is concerned I find Lotro to be one of the more mature game worlds though that may change somewhat with the influx of F2P players.
Fallen Earth
Gratz for the daugther. So next mmo that u can start from scratch like me and much more people is Lord of the rings onlne. It has 1 of the best dx10 graphics iv seen plus its Open beta f2p from 10th september.Enjoy
Oopsie, I went too fast and didn't see that section.
I'll go post there instead. Thanks for pointing out.
You could try Guild Wars..no monthly fee and its AAA quality as of my concern.Max lvl is 20 and exp is fast.It has great pvp and the pvp gear is separate from pve gear, also you can create a max lvl character only for pvp and unlock all the skills in the game that way i think. And gear is dropped or crafted becose the one bought from npcs is the worst ingame. You really can play 1 h and acomplish something eighter in pvp or pve.The downfall and major difference from Eve is that all is instanced.
This is a tall order. EVE dwarfs everything else in depth and freedom and you clearly found a niche there with that amount of time, but I'll try to respond because I have been through a similar time constraint scenario
The only thing close, that might be a little little less time consuming is Darkfall. But it has much fewer options over EvE, it is mine, mine PvE, PvP as opposed to space mine, planet harvest, explore, wormhole, industry, PvE, PvP, hauling, etc. in EvE. Currently it is still a long way to level a character, so if you want to ever win a PvP fight solo, you might feel this is not for you.
Vanguard has everything you are looking for except the social aspect. Great game, but population is so low. Easy to pop in and out of I think.
City of Heroes or Champions Online don't have much beyond the fighting BUT (and this is why I include them) they can appeal to the freedom aspect that EvE has - you can make characters very customized, even more so than EVE in CO, probably comparable for CoH. So while fighting is the overall focus, there are many ways to do it. They also both are very very social. Also, they are both fairly easy games to level in, and if you focus on one character you will quickly be competetive with vets (though they will be able to switch to alts with different powers). Both games have epic gear, but the real die-hards will just have small margins over you.
And all the above seem to attract older (or smarter) people. I'm quite a bit older than you. Not sure why, maybe they are more complicated to play than some MMOs.
"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga

Yeah, I just poked my head in there and there isn't a lot of activity. Too bad really because the LFG area of these forums is potentially the most helpful aspect of the site.
Ah well
I thought about putting that one too, but I feel they really need to make some big fixes before the social aspects take off. For one, there is no incentive to group at all. I've grouped maybe 5 times on the way to level 34 even when I was in a big guild at launch. Aside from that, combat, crafting, character customization, are A+.

Beyond Eve there is nothing else out there that comes close to your criteria. Sorry many of us are looking for the same thing and none of the big time developers will chance breaking away from the theme park formula.
I suppose you could play any game just casually but depending on how competetive you get it could frustrate you more or less.
Possibly give "A Tale in the Desert" a look. It is a very strong builder game. Tale 5 on the Amunet server has just started about a month ago so you are not so far behind. There is no combat though. PvP or PvE. It is all building. The learning curve is pretty steep. Similar to EVE in complexity. Very strong social game. People have to work together to accomplish a number of things though there is much you can do on your own. You can actually be in as many guilds as you want. Very mature game. Probably for the lack of combat. The game can get very hardcore in terms of the amount of time you send on it if you let it. If you have great ambitions and want to build the biggest obelisk etc, then you could spend a lot of time on it. But you can also keep it low key and only check on say your sheep or camels every other day if you needed time away. Since there is no combat, it is very easy to simply get up and walk away from the game for 30 minutes as long as you are not on a group project or in the middle of one of the mini-games.
Another game that seems to be fairly casual friendly is Perfect World. Very solo friendly and you can take it at your own pace. Not really designed to ever hit the level cap in that game. 2 years running in the west and there are only 18 lvl 103 characters. No lvl 104s or 105s. People seem to be really cool. I haven't seen much stupidity though there is some. It is a free to play so the potential is there to spend a lot of money on goodies if you are not diciplined but you don't pay to access expansions or anything like that. You truely can play the game from beginning to end for free if you want to. no restrictions on zones, classes or races that can be played for free. Probably the best free to play I have seen.
The next I mention with a bit of hesitation. But possibly also FFXIV. So far it appears that it will be very casually friendly in terms of the amount of time that you need to spend with it. It is somewhat structured to discourage playing for long hours and power leveling a single class to the top in record time. See the debate on Surplus/Fatigue system. It has very strong crafting. There are more crafting classes than combat classes right now in fact. Of course your not behind anybody since it is in open beta and doesn't release until later in the month. The downside is that the UI is console based. You can use a gamepad to control it but it is still very difficult to get used to. You have to want to learn the controls to get past it. It is also very much a "figure it out yourself" game. Much like the rest of the FF console games. They drop you in the world and expect you to talk to everyone you see to figure out what is going on. So is it worth the frustration? Hard to say. Not sure I could recommend the game to anyone for how hard it is to get used to. I am still not sure if I will continue to play. But it is a very pretty game with a very strong story. Squenix makes very story driven games. I find myself both drawn to it and very frustrated by it. Definitly try it first before buying. You will either love it or hate it. But it may take days to both get a beta key and get it downloaded.
All die, so die well.
well, there probably will be a lot of people who would not agree with me, but i would say - try vanguard.
Are they rolling with some new servers for the ftp?
Runescape
Havent been following it but I think lotro is going totally f2p with the existing servers
As for another game to try, look at EQ2. Very easy to take the game very casually if you don't care about getting to the endgame raiding in record time. The housing is fun for those who get into that sort of thing. The populations is not too small but very stable. If you do check it out, get on the Everfrost server and look up the guild "Order of the Rose." They are very friendly to new players. lots of help and all around nice people. The general population is fairly cool as well. I think you will find that with all the games that are a few years old and have small but stable populations.
