2 weeks to go and still on the fence

SorrowSorrow Member Posts: 1,195

Parts of the game I like, parts of the game make me insane..

May end up buying it just as filler until GW2, SWTOR, or TERA.

Hate to spend $90 as a cure for boredom though.

Hate to say it but I think most people playing an MMO or waiting for an MMO or is an old verteran of MMO's  are on the fence about any game they are waiting for. To me its gonna run the same scenario as everthing else.

    ----cant wait looks cool,

---post in forums,  "ANYONE THINK THIS GAME IS WORTH BUYING?"

---post post post----convincing yourself to buy the game when no matter what you hear youll buy it..

--buy game, play 2 weeks, maybe 3, maybe 4........log off. Interest dies....

    ---make more posts.....

Rofl yea that about sums it up.

Sigh god I miss the days of pure bliss in gaming those " OMG " moments of discovery when you are just standing there in a game taking it all in going OMG this is so incredible.

I remember coming to EQ from UO and standing in the karana's looking out over the vistas and thinking to myself, THIS is finally a brave new world...

Oh well guess those days are gone forever

Unfortunately my friend our UO, EQ days are over. What was will never be, it was new, our PC's sucked, we had dial up, but there was purity in the game, love, drive and mystery. It's something that was all to unreal for the moment and thought would never end. Now its wash, rinse and repeat...

It's also becuase your character will be erased and nothing you do in Beta matters.    IF this was release, I would be working on crafting, possibly working on a lower level class by grinding lower level mobs.  Or, I would be fishing or attempting to get as many Aetheryte points to make travel in the future easier.

Or, I would be mining and feeding a guild crafter to make me the second set of the crafted gear.  I may also be exploring, but because certain parts are restricted, it's not necessarily worth it.  If this was release, I would be making an effort to meet and do stuff with people as much as possible, instead of being completely mute all the time (as others are).

The reason you're not logged on may have to do with the fact whatever you do will be erased in two weeks.  To be fair, I understand your point, you don't feel the need to log on unless your leves are up.  But, last time I checked, the servers are still packed with people playing.

I have 3 people bugging me as we speak to play XIV until GW2 and Rift. None of them really like the game, they just don't have a current MMO to play. I personally am not throwing down $60 and 6 months of fees on something i don't fully support.

The fact that this was the first beta i ever looged off of and went to try the LORTO ftp beta instead, tells me everything i need to know.

Yeah pretty much. I'd be crafting all day long too if it was release. But it's just not worth it for OB because of the wipe. I just log on, heal some people if they need, run around a bit and log off. Just no point working on a character that will not exist anymore after the wipe. At least I'll be able to transfer the name though.

I tired the OB, after a few hours, deleted the game and cancelled my pre-order.  Not that the game was horrible, it just wasn't fun for me, not my type of game.  I will try the f2p LOTR when it happens as a filler waiting for GW2 and SWTOR.  But I agree with you, $60 bucks as a filler is not what I'm willing to pay.

I am on the fence also, but it is clear to me OB is not the full game at all, even just by comparing sizes of OB client and disk space requirements upon release regardless of how SE has said it is a fraction of the game it becomes clear there is a lot left out story/quest wise. The leves are I do not think seen as "quests" by SE but repeatables to be done as another element that is added to the game. My only wonder is just how much is left out, and if it is enough to make me want to play the game and progress, because atm it is a gamble.

grinding is honestly not that bad in this game.... and progression is speedy even in the teens. just because your leves are not up does NOT mean you have to stop playing.

FFS the surplus system isnt even as bad as people have made it out to be, i have played nothing but pugilist for atleast 4 hours a day since OB started and still no surplus.... so unless it is off... i dont see how people could complain.

I'd probably buy it, if it didnt mean i had to spend 1000 to upgrade my computer

to get a pleasant experience playing.

I'd contemplate buying it for ps3 next year though...

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

They have surplus turned off for some reason. I ran into surplus easy in CB and havent seen it in OB.

I played a maurder for 12 hours straight the other night to try and scale track surplus and never hit it.

Think it created such an uproar in CB when implemented that SE decided to not turn it on for OB in hopes of getting those pre-sales back up.

Hopefully they are doing without it for good, but I have a feeling this is just a marketing ploy and they have every intention of reinstituting it for release.

After all the whole purpose of the surplus system is truly just to control server loads on world shared servers.  Think of it like a time share condo..  SE sells a gamer in the US a bandwidth slot, they sell the same slot to a european, and the same slot to an asian, now they have to make us share it so they stick in a system encouraging us to only take the condo for our 8 hours per day.  Saves them a ton of money on server farms, maintance, and bandwidth.

This is their business model so I really can't see them keeping it disabled in retail.

they specifically stated surplus would be ON for OB... and that the system was incorrectly implemented in CB resulting in players hitting surplus far sooner than they should have.

because of this, i am led to believe the system is actually ON, and just nowhere near as bad as people thought it would be.

why not group up with people that have leves and do theres as a group and get the exp from that. there is more to the game than doing your own leves.

The thing about that is that currently, you're actually hurting your xp rate by grouping up for leves, even if you raise the difficulty.  Even if that changes, that's essentially just grinding as a group instead of solo.  It doesn't add much depth to the experience.

The major problem with this game right now is that if you want to do something that doesn't involve straight grinding, the story missions are your only choice (which pretty much amounts to watching cutscenes 90% of the time).  Once the story is complete...you're SOL.

I payed 600 for my PC about 8moths ago (core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz, win7 64, 8GB ram and a crappy ATI Radeon HD 4354) and it runs FFXIV resaonably well (down to about 15fps when in over populated areas, as high as 40 in more open areas) on default settings (turned off shadows basically the only chnage from default)  My vid card is way to low for the game, so i need to upgrade before release, or i might wait to see where the game goes, but I could build an equivalent PC to what i have for about 500 and play the game fine (just not at maxed settings)  I ran a 500 on the benchmark, so its clear my vid card sould be upgraded, but as i have stated i can play as is (only time i really see issues is some lag on npc loading after teleporting, but its the vid card)

thou i'd rather have a much better PC for the game, its clearly not needed, and atm i wouldnt think of upgrading untill i see how things got in the first few weeks after release.
