I was thinking of getting WOW. I have heard some mixed reviews. The most common one, I have heard (which is not necessarily statistically representative) is that people have become boored after a short time.
Is this because tehy are power levelers, or does it actually get boring (as in nothing to do)?
And does it get boring once you reach the end-game cos there is actually no end-game yet (due to the game being so new)?
Plz could you motivate why it gets boring so I get a feel for the game.
I also heard that there is no real interest to team up in the game. Is this true? As a good and active community with team play is important for me.
Thx for helping me out.

Well, I am more interested in getting a good game. So money is not my prior 1. Id hate to get game and only play it cos it has no monthly fee.
By the way, are u saying that WOW is a good buy? and have you actually played GW or are you repeating what all you friends are saying?

Originally posted by flipfloppy well it's kinda hard to get bord with a mmorpg like WoW because there is so much to do and once you finish one char. you can make a new one, but my advice.... get GW no monthly payment
Play Guild Wars, and if you like it, keep playing it. With no monthly fee, how can you lose?
If you're looking for several hundred different people to answer your question, you should probably go to Google rather than expecting to find it in one thread in a chat forum in some dark corner of the internet.
Between WoW and EQ2 we were led to beleive by the average fanboi these were the "best games ever".This could not be farther from the truth.Ive played both for 1 week each.
Nothing new here.
Both games recycled ideas from 5 or 6 years ago.Do a quest and visit a dungeon.Add a bit of PvP and see what happens.
Save your money theres more content in KOTOR II for 50 bucks.

I used to think World of Warcraft was going to be boring due to a lack of high end content and no pvp system to speak of. However they have implemented new content and a pvp system is coming very soon. I would give it a look.
I've played almost every MMOG on the market. The only reason I state that point is that when I played WoW I felt like I was playing any number of those games...it was simply derivative. Mind you, I felt that WoW was a highly polished and sound experience...it's a good game. I just didn't feel like I was involved in something I hadn't already done before.
Now, whether you want to call that "boring" is relative. WoW has a good pace, highly stylized and beautiful graphics (color schemes are superb, though the models are blocky), good variance in class and race, and plenty of things to do. As for depth, I felt it was a bit shallow.
I still recommend it as the best game for a newbie to the MMOG genre to start with. I still recommend it to veteran gamers who are not yet jaded or cynical. But for veteran MMOG players who have years of varied experience under their belt I think it will mostly be a hit or miss affair...most veterans are looking for longevity, not a quick fix, and WoW hasn't developed a sense of longevity as of yet.
I am hopeful it will be. I got 2 boxes for christmas, thus I have 2 keys sitting and waiting for me to activate (one to reactivate, and one that was never activated). I will definitely try it again when they stabilize the servers and add more content. That's not likely to happen until after they release in China, which is going to hit their server infrastructure like a ton of bricks. I figure sometime late 2005 I'll give it a go again, and I hope it will be a more fulfilling experience.
Meanwhile, Guild Wars and I have a date!
But since KOTOR II is not an MMORPG, it's 100% irrelevent to this thread.
It makes as much sense as saying "Don't play EQ2. Play Unreal Tournament!"
You just wasted four paragraphs building up to your deflated closing gambit.
But you hit the nail on the head when you suggested WoW is the game for newbs and MMORPG fans who aren't jaded. The sad fact, though, is that most MMORPG fans are jaded.
Actually it is relevent.
Im saying that a standard video game on the XBOX is even BETTER than WoW or EQ2.
Both cost about 50 bucks. Both ARE video games.(sounds pretty similar to me).
BTW unreal tournament IS a better game than EQ2.Thanx for pointing that out!!

Agreed.
Agreed.
I agree with that too, but then I've spent more hours playing EQ2 than UT

Why do I feel I got a better deal than you did?
WoW is definatly not boring. Just like every other fantasy mmorpg there is a end and in that end there is always limited things to do. In WoW you have a few options.
Make a new character
improove your professions. Gathering professions include Herbalism, Fishing, Mining, and skining. Production professions including Alchemy, Blacksmithing, cooking, engineering, leatherworking, and tailoring. Service professions being enchanting and first aid.
Farm, Raid, Duel, if your not on a PvP, And catch up on some side quests.
Only thing about the game is the leveling its a noobie/kids game when it comes to leveling, very easy.
WoW is a fun game but can get boring because there is no expansion yet. Once there are expansions it will add more locations and stuff to do.
Played WoW for about 1 month and I wish I didn't waste my money and time on it.
Not sure why people even bother saying if there is no content to make another character when you reach 60. Oh yeah I want to grind another toon through the same tired process to reach the same conclusion I know now that, WoW is boring. Makes alot of sense.
I've played World of Warcraft and don't like. I've played Guild Wars and like it...
Not that difficult a choice to make. Many harkened the greatness of World of Warcraft before it came out, and now are struggling to find positives. Guild Wars HAS been played, by myself and others, alot, and while its not the finished product, I know that I like it.
It's really easy for a fanboi to praise WoW, ignore all the negatives of the game like it doesn't exist and flame EQ2 and its fanbois.
WoW did get real boring.
I played for a few months. Leveled one char to 60 and a few alts.
I played on a pvp server. But i finally gave up at trying to pvp. Ill probably check back in for battlegrounds but i dont think i will stay with it.
I want to pvp not raid instances and find uber loot.
If what you want to do is go through the same few dungeons for a couple of months then you might enjoy this game.
I also would never see leveling another character to 60 as fun. It is really boring. The only reason that i leveled two of my alts to 30 was because i cancelled my account and still had 2 weeks left to play. Overall i was just bored at times.
But i will say the first few weeks of the game were a lot of fun. I definitely see some people leaving this game over time. The pvp system just kinda sucks. My friends testing honor so far arent that impressed.
WoW is very boring.
I tried to play casually but i still almost maxed my character out. 3 more levels and then i've got nothing to do. I certainly don't want to remake a character from scratch, and the end-game stuff looks boring.
I wish I could re-activate my FFXI but I need to buy the game again for some stupid reason.
Dark and Light, hurry up and release already!
I have the disks for FFXI. PM me, Rath.

WoW IS BORING... nothing new ...just the same old grind and items hunt .. been there, done that .
Play Guild Wars.... it can not be explain with words, how awesome this game is.
Incidentally, how is this a "deflated closing gambit"?
It's simply a statement of fact. I'm going to be playing Guild Wars. I'm making no statement of judgement.
Im sorry to say it yall, but as long as we keep buying the same "kill, level, get shit, repeat" type of mmorpg's there's no reason for it to change.
The "kill, level, etc" model of a game is a tried and true template for mmorpgs games.
People WILL play for hours on end killing rats to get a better helmet, so companys WILL keep making the same type of mmorpgs. Maybe they'll be a twist or 2. Voice over quests here, Story line taken from a flawless strategy game there. But over all nothings gonna change
Hate this means that there will be no change in the way mmorpg's developed in the forseeable future. So if your looking to get off Wow's and Eq2's grindage, I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch.
AMEN!
And yea ill be playing GW and pay for EvE because its my favorite space mmorpg

Well, if u have played Warcraft III then WoW will be alot more fun to you.
But, if u have ever played an RPG map on Warcraft III u'll see that WoW is not much different from it....
I think UO owns WoW in every aspect possible except graphics sounds and stuff... becoz it didnt bored me for like 4 years. And it have MANY things to do, way smaller world but I dont know... WoW seems so artificial, I think I got bored of the grinding system...
do the quest, kill the boss, raise ur level, get the items... for?
If I were u, I would buy Guild Wars. I can't pre-order one coz its like 150 bucks here in Brazil (and I would have to import...) so I'm just buying in June (my birthday). I've played the beta and I loved it... I know much more stuff have been added...
but I got tired of L2/WoW/EQ kind of games where u level to get strong and once u are strong the fun starts to fade out... guild wars is like an RPG + <insert skill based game here>
You level a bit, hunt for items a bit, but the most u do is pvp. And God, the pvp in GW just owns. its an PvP based RPG.... very very cool ^^ also doesnt need great PC and doesnt lag alot... no farmers and stuff... u play the game and have fun... similar to Diablo II (the online system and stuff)
Anyway, just test both. U play whats better for u
I'm playing MMORPG's for many many years now and there's only a few i didn't play.
I got WoW 3 weeks ago and was overwhelmed the first few days.
Now i am not playing anymore while still being in free month.
Why?
It's hard to describe. WoW has everything a good MMO needs. It's polished it has tons of quests, good graphics and sound.....
One thing it does lack though: This game has no single new idea. Nothing - nada!
This may not be a problem for 90% of the WoW players since not many have seen all the MMO's out there allready.
For a MMO veteran it's the same old story after a few days though.
Maybe i am just burnt out on those standart MMO's like we see em lately. I am in need of something fresh and that's what WoW can't deliver.
Before all the WoW fanbois come down on me like a mad mob: I don't think WoW is a bad game. It's just nothing for me. It bores me.
