MMORPG.COM News: Writers Wanted!

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

Over the past few weeks, we have been working very hard to expand our features coverage on MMORPG.com. I have been quite pleased with the results so far, and am excited about the coverage we will present in the coming weeks. However, in order to continue to provide top notch reviews, previews, articles, editorials and interviews, we need to expand our stable of writers. If you have ever wanted to write about MMORPGs in a highly visible location, and maybe even get to play a few for free, then this may be the job for you.

Staff Writer: A staff writer writes previews, editorials, reviews, interviews and articles for a number of different games. Typically, when an opportunity presents itself, it is circulated amongst all writers, and given to the first who wishes to do it. The basic things we seek in a candidate are:

  • Extensive knowledge of at least one (preferably more) major, live MMORPG.
  • An interest in and knowledge of the genre as a whole.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Focused and able to meet deadlines.
  • Creative and self-motivated.
  • Constantly playing MMORPGs.

To be clear, this is a volunteer position. In exchange for your efforts you will receive free access to any games that you cover for the site.

Those interested should send a one-page (maximum) letter that explains why they would like to take up the task, talks of their favorite MMORPG, and/or any other pertinent topic to lepidus@mmorpg.com.

I sent in my application, I play mmo's 90% of the time anyway. It would be nice to have my opinion read by many...

Is there a deadline for the application? If I send my letter in later this week, will that be a problem?

  • DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

There is no deadline and technically this is not a finite position, so any time you send a letter I will read it.

I must say though, the response so far has been overwhelming. Thanks to all!

I have a very quick question. Is this a paying position, or a volunteer effort?

    Thanks.

*edit* I got too excited to read thoroughly, heh. My bad. Resume sent.

I put my application in, hopefully I'll be considered. :)

Would be so awesome to use my insatiable love/addiction for MMORPG's to inform others and have my writing seen in such a place as this!

By the way, when will the selected know they're in?

Well, actually, I know that this will be seen as "sucking up", yet I do affrirm that the intentions of the following message is NOWHERE near that purpose.

I truly do think that this is an amazing thing as a whole for a website to be doing. Why do I say this? Because, most of the time, new reporters and the like are selected from personal friends of the site administration, or the "most active" posters upon a message board. However, you have decided to open it to all of the visitors to the site, and to that, I respect this site even more than I previously did. Please keep up the good work!

(Now, why would you presume that as sucking up? Because I sent in an application as well. Once again, I will swear to you that that is not the case at all.)

Ill second that. Alot of us don't post a lot, but we give our reviews and stop in daily for news and such.  Hope I get a good indy mmo if I make it. Alot of the up and coming MMO's really have something great to offer. Course knowing my luck I'll finally win a contest and be disqualified for being a writer.

I'm pretty sure I'll pass on this one, but it's great to see the community involvement on the MMORPG.com staff's part. Keep up the good work.

  • DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

To be clear, this is not just for free games.

What I mean when I say that is that if we present an opportunity to cover a game and you are the writer chosen to do it for the site, you most definitely will not be expected to pay for it.

Hmm, this sounds like an intereting proposition :)

I'll give it some thought and write an application sometime later tonight.

Just for starters, what kind of information are you after? I am suposing things like prior experience and system specs may be important :)

imageIs that application form have the fixed pattern? If it has, tell me plz.

I sent in my application, however, I didn't indicate anywhere who I was on the site here, does that matter? The e-mail I sent in is from an e-mail address that's not associated with my MMORPG.com account.

Let me know if you need this information?

    Thank you.
