"To get some more details on what sets combat apart in Guild Wars 2, Ten Ton Hammer spent some time speaking with Game Designer Isaiah “Izzy” Cartwright who is heavily involved in that aspect of the game’s development. In fact, our near hour-long interview with Izzy proved to be so packed full of great gameplay details for Guild Wars 2 that we’ll be presenting additional installments throughout the next week."

Looks good. There is 1 thing that was disappointing: So in terms of how that fits into your overall build, you won’t constantly be learning new weapon skills or relearning how your build will function when using those weapons, correct?
Skill sets are a lot more limited in GW 2 than GW 1. Making all different builds was one of the fun things in GW 1. Hoping they will bring a little more skill customization .
It reads as if you are bassicly changing the skill completely with traits.
so while in GW one you had a melee attack that did bleeding you could switch it with a melee attack that does deep wounds. now in GW 2 you have a melee attack, and you give it a trait for bleeding and you can switch it to a trait for deep wounds.
I see it as a very similar system. Although there will not be those builds that bassicly remove any skill the main class would normally use. Like a healing ele or somthing.

Different builds in GW1 could have been fun, but after they implemented the build showing/sharing system everything changed.
Only a handful of builds are now viable for PvP.. if you are missing skills or refuse to use the given build > KICK.
TBF meta's exist in almost all games and there is a good reason. Some people have terrible/useless builds. As bad as it was it made pugging viable after the game had been around for a long time. When the was just recently anything goes but as people become more comptetant at the game their less likely to take random strangers who could potenially seriously suck.
So it was either be accepted and then kicked or not be accepted at all.
They clearly read the complaints about death shroud then countered them with that. That was fast. I'm really impressed
I hope they make the first 5 slots open, but we pick from a much more limited amount of skills. That would give it the perfect balance
Hopefully there isn't a pvx wiki variation for GW2 in which they tell you which trait is best...
You know what... It would be awesome if they didn't implement a feature where you can ping your traits or skills/elite skills.
You just go with what the person has, and play through it. No worries, No argueing, No noob calling. Just play the game and have fun.

I'm probably one of those people who just get wet.
I actually think that they'll do that. I mean if you think about it, you get several trait points. And even then, ANet said that it's pretty much impossible to get every single trait, meaning that there's sooooo many traits. At this point it would be pointless to ping 50 different traits that you've put 1 point into each. Even though that build sounds stupid, it's still physically possible meaning that ANet has to make it pingable either way. It's usefulness is irrelevent.
