So if you're expecting a game full of features, look further, it's not here.

All games are pretty featureless and stripped down at launch, and then built upon as the players play it.  MMO's grow with players.  Do you remember what all WoW had at launch?  No BG's, no Arena, hardly an end game, hardly anything I would call a real feature.  It was just a grind only through meaningless quests.

All we can ask is that devs release a solid core game with what they promise and then build on it constantly.  The alternative is jamming in a bunch of unfinished and buggy features ala AoC and then fixing bugs for 2 years while your game dies.

You'd think a chat channel that functions properly and actually allows other players to communicate in a MMO would be a obvious feature to add. These are the features I'm talking about, not content.

"Think about your argument before you post, you might just look a little less retarded afterwards."

I put text in the box, other people can see my text in the box, it works.

If you have a problem with the channel holding too much information that may overflow over chat, you can change what information is fed through it.

This game has a lot of godamn features, but I don't expect the rest to be shown, due to the fact that we're just helping with stress testing.

Are you kidding me? Seriously, read between the lines. Sure, you can put something into chat, but only people 5m away from you can see it, plus the UI makes this very awkward to use. They have no global chat system for players to communicate beyond a arms length.

Arguably a good thing depending on who you are. Global channels in past games only give gold sellers an easier time advertising, and trolls/attention whores an audience. They are rarely used for what they are meant for, especially without GM moderation, and add nothing to actual gameplay.

Also /shout covers a wider area in case you were unaware.

Well that is the intended feature tehre are Linkshells for higher communication. You may not like their system but it worked for ff11 and for gods sakes it saves you from a lot of spam or these "ofr rngofstr+5 w armop+7 postings. It is a great feature in my personal view.

Agree with OP this game is not fun -- I have been more engaged by the ftp LOTRO than this game.  Maybe if they added more mobs outside and made them all aggressive at beginning levels it would make things more interesting.

This game is really just made for fanbois and I am glad for them that they have a new place to go and play MMO's.

Rarely used for what they are meant for? I think that is a gross generalization. You're thinking to the WoW Auction channel. The VAST majority of the time, it is used for auctions, and only a little bit of douchebaggery in the grand scheme of things. These things happen in all games, global chat or not.

Add nothing to actual gameplay? It allows your community to interact with each other on a much wider basis, rather than a stones throw.

Seriously, what is with all these people who judge the final game on beta crap then whine and complain that it isnt as in depth as good as a game that has 5 years of updates and fixes behind it? And its not FFXIV, its every freaking MMO out there nowadays, do people just go around complaining about every game for no better reason then because they can?

It might be because some people expect & demand more from a game and company regardless if it's OB or launch.

Let's make a deal with companies,  If there product is half finished at launch then the gamers can pay half price.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Seems like a poor way to port a PS3 whisper to a PC MMO.

Did I miss something because two posts appear above yours and neither compared this game to any other game five years old or not.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

There's a right for comparative, if you'd like to judge a game based on a stress test.. Then be my guest, most people agree that judging a stress test as an actual game is fairly silly.

Extremely well put.  I think this is something that I fully understand and part of my hype over the potential for this game that others just aren't going to see.  I guess some will uncover the unspoken potential and some will write it off.  For me the anticipation of finding it and living in this world that they have created and will be building on is great and I am very excited about the next year of gaming in my life.

FFXI grew in a way that I loved while WoW grew in a way I despised.  Any game has good potential stripped down at launch, but how the devs grow it and buil don it is key to anyones personal preferences and how much enjoyment they find.  Comparing a game at launch to one that has been out for years on end is just a bit foolish.

The rest of us have a whole slew of games to get hooked on! WIN-WIN for everyone!

I plan on being there for the launch of these games as well while I continue FFXIV casually on my PS3.  =D

GW2, Rifts, SWTOR, and possibly Tera I will play at launch as long as they aren't too close to each other.  I still play GW so I am sure GW2 will last for years.  Love the pricing model.

edit: and the question was how many, not who - so dont answer "i did".

During OB and launch. Mostly all I saw on The Rathe were groups and community development and encouragement.

Skele and Kodiak groups in Neriak, and many more out in the commonlands.

Well, maybe not level 1 but certainly at 5. The level scale was different for EQ then it appears to be for FF14 today.

OB was full of chatter, FF14 OB is silent except for the occasional "how do I shut up Xiao Spammershu!?" "blacklist them." "huh?" "Oh, I see thanks."

The MMO genre is just different today. We are jaded, spoiled, and exceptionally entitled. Few are satisfied or mystified anymore and you can never go home.

Folks might give FF14 a chance - though the UI/UX is a nasty learning curve for PC gamers like myself. I swore I should never have to play a PC game with controller. Well, it just makes more sense in this game. It's a sad drastic difference in playability. Targeting is still miserable either way though. Having a Hardware Mouse at launch would help immensely. (please please)

But I have found some mystery. On one hand I like the maps, although I think some of the areas should not be obvious about there being a dungeon or something there. Maybe that is only in the initial starting areas, which would make sense. However, making sense and Square... is lost in western translation.

I explored a charming underground mine or dungeon looking area, got blasted for 3k damage on the 2nd floor down. I do hope there are exploration type traits or rewards somewhere. I received a notification that I killed 200 monsters recently so there is something at least.

Guildleves will in no way be enough to sustain playtime and repeatedly just grinding mobs was fun in EQ, 11 years ago. Going to be an interesting 90 days post launch for NA FF14.
