Patcher is killing me...

Seriously, the fact I need to go to download the patches from another source is really beginning to grate on me. MMOs are ever evolving and ever changing... thus ever patching. If the patching programming isn't working properly this close to launch, I'm worried.
Right now, that's the only thing making me leary of buying this game...

Well, if that's the only thing that worries you then fret not. I would be FLABBERGASTED if they did not release a completely different patcher with the gold disk.
Most MMOs do this. FFXIV just happens to have a very bad beta patcher.
If they didn't fix this issue then they'd have some major, major problems. Even after having followed SE's instructions of modifying my security settings on my CPU and router I still can't download via the beta patcher. Heh.

I personally loath bittorrent based patchers =/ Especially on p2p games.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
It works fine with me. I had to change my network settings (uPnP) like they described on the beta test site and it's been fine since.
My settings were already uPnP enabled and I followed those instructions to make sure. So is my router, and again checked. I have no problem patching any other game so to me this is still an issue that will have to be handled by release as many are having problems and being asked even to change security settings on your computer in order for a patcher to work is a bit backwards in this age. It should be easy enough to get things working as with other games, and certainly isn't too much to ask for gold release.

You also have to consider that this is completely free, and there are probably way more people trying to patch than the paying community at launch. So, this is a stress test. I think when it launches, they will make sure it works well.
I found a faster way to download the patches than the patcher that SquareEnix gives out

You can use utorrent to downlad the patches, it will do in no time, the problem start just after you patch it up.
