I had alot of fun in Shadowbane.. if you played you'd know what I mean and I'm just seeing if there would be anything out there to compare..

Guild Cities

Open PVP full looting

skill point system which I mean absolutely no one character was the same.

I am a casual player who rerolled and plays on noob alts sometimes and have had the most epic gaming experiences that I have ever had in any game . .. yet the forums tell me that I shouldn't enjoy myself because of the grind yet I have never really grind at all? It's retarded.

Most complaints that you hear about Darkfall are from people who don't play the game and never really have or did over a year ago before XP gains became x6 faster and HP was given to noobs among many other things. Those who still think that the grind is too much probably only want to play it for a month and move on and are usually younger xbox players or something so are a lot mroe impatient.

The game is FFA PVP with full-loot so technically the grind never ends because you need an income to be able to replace what is lost. Even if you never die your items will all break as you use them.

Been playing it for 16 months and I still have a lot more content to experience and places to explore.

It did take me a few months just to learn how to fight effectively because it is not an easy game but when rerolling and playing on brand new characters it is impossible to 5-shot me almost but that is what new people experience until they learn how to kite.

If you like FPS than you are in luck because this game has the funnest FPS physics around.

If you are really that concerned about being ahead of other people than I would get in now because you will be ahead of the population boom coming up from the PVE expansion and of course DF2010.

Also I should add that everything is gained with dimishing returns so it only takes a few months to develope a toon that can take down someone who has year+ skills/stats (extremely rare for a noob to come across a vet I should also add).

As others have said Darkfall is the cloeset to Shadowbane currently, but its certainly not the "next Shadowbane". IMHO it's lacking on a lot of the things that Shadobane did right (to ba fair they're also doing some things better than Shadowbane).

Shadowbane was 100% open world. No fixed city points means no limit on total cities which opened up the city building part of the game for far more people. The game world literally changed around cities as they were built. No limit on city building also led to what I see as more use of politics to build power versus sheer numbers. Much better oppertunities for traders and merchants to setup shops in trader towns or their own town.

I'm not a big fan of the skill system in Darkfall. Whether or not folks want to admit it people that have spent time grinding their skills (for hundreds of hours) have a distinct advantage over those that don't. Shadowbane used a class system but leveling was basically a joke. It took a very short time to max level and most of it was just so you could get used to playing your class. You could also customise your character a pretty good amount with the use of runes.

Shadowbane had F'ing Thieves man. Full on rob you blind and dash off into the bushes Thieves. God I miss a good run around some cities or spawns looting for second hand loot =D. I remeber camping a group that was waiting at a rune mob spawn (forget the rune). They were on heavy alert for any theives and were doing a good job checking the area for me. Finally the mob spawned and as they were fighting him I moved in for the steal. They dropped him and I quickly checked them all until I found and stole the rune and booked it for safety. Long story short I spent the next 3 hours running from, slowing down and eventually losing a pretty damned good Scout that was determined not to let me get away with that rune.

I'd love a Shadowbane 2. Fix the stability issues and a few other things here and there (Like the controls) and I would play it in a heartbeat.

I think they closed Darkfall and Shadowbane. Try the shadowabane emu their releasing soon? Dunno why ubi didnt sell the game servers when they closed sb,  Instead of making those guys spend a year+ coding the emu.

last time i checked  shadowbane was free to play.. but when i had logged back on the graphics just seemed soooo horrible lol

I was like wow I can't believe I used to play this lol.

Yea I remember the thieves.. I had one myself.. the most exciting time in any game i can ever remember..

I remember finding a guy probably around lvl 20 and he had 1 million gold on him.. obviously that is a shit ton of gold.. and I was like wtf is a lvl 20 doing with that?!?! lol    anyway.. well maybe I had an assassin because I remember killing him to get it instead of just stealing it.. then the whole group chased me down, killed me, and stole the loot from the guy I had killed haha

Shadowbane emu has that same damn click-mouse-to-move system, never felt comfortable with that. WASD=mission impossible?

I'll wait another 6 months or so before subscribing to DF again, who knows maybe by then it's closer to the game they once promised. Right now it just lags content/meaningful PvP.

Click-to-move was required for SB. It's engine, the Arcane Engine, was developed well back in the day, back when MMO's really didn't handle hundreds if not thousands of players in an area. SB was one of the last few real persistent worlds (no zoning, no instancing, etc), and when you had battles as large as 500vs500 which you could on some servers, having each and every character move via WASD is a lot of information for a server to send / receive for every characters movement..

There were insanely large guild fights (banes) that could literally lag an entire server, even if you were on the other side of the world map no where near the actual fight. Imagine what it would have been like if the servers had to constant keep up with input information every millisecond? People forget SB had daily server restarts that could last between 10 minutes to an hour, every single day. Don't get me wrong, I loved SB, best MMO I've ever played but its engine was not the best.
