This is all the threads about FFXIV wrapped into one for a little ease of reading....

Hopefully that helps everyone that's still on the fence.
Now, the simple truth is this, FFXIV is as good an MMO as any that has released to date (DAoC not included, nothing has matched DAoC yet) But just as with all the other MMO's, (yes, that includes WoW and EQ2) it has some flaws, but so did every other game that has come before it, and none of its flaws are any worse than any other games and none of them make SE The Debble!!!
But your going to have two types of players, the kind that understand this and just enjoy the game and look forward to its release (like me) hoping they fix the flaws sooner rather than later (and every game always fixes them eventually). And you have the player that sees a flaw and declares the game and it's maker money grubbing lie'in cheats!! And wants everyone to hate the game with them.
Now, those of us that are enjoying the game are not automatically fanbois, and those that hate it are not automatically trolls, (though some are) we just all feel strongly about our position.
Now for the undecided player, I can tell you this, the best way I can help someone get an idea about FFXIV is to comnpare it to something thats already out (nothing is quite like it, but a few games combined can give you a certain feel of it I think)
The landscape (mostly the feel of moving around it, and how linear traveling it feels) puts me in mind of AoC, the combat (mostly SE's attempt at making all the combat moves have a certain epic look) puts me in mind of Aion when I'm playing, and the crafting and harvesting reminds me alot of Vanguard (though much improved over Vanguard)
So, I think if you like AoC, Aion and Vanguard, then your most likely going to enjoy FFXIV, if you hated those three games, you will most definitely hate FFXIV
Oh yeah, my disclaimer ** I love graphics and animations and FFXIV knocked it out of the park on those, so I may be more forgiving because of that.**

Yeah pretty good points. I mean every mmorpg has good aspects. I have found at least the box price worth of entertainment from every MMORPG to come out pretty much. It is just about finding that fun and seeing how long it lasts, or weighing pros and cons and seeing if it might be worth it for you. To me I just look at the pros and see if it is enough to warrant a month of play which even if it isn't my cup of tea is way more bang for your buck than almost any other game out there.
The thing I don't understand is the people that visit a forum for hours a day leading up to the launch of a game and shortly after and just hate on it endlessly. Just can't wrap my head around this kind of person, but whatever. After launch the forums become reasonable and you can meet some really cool players who enjoy whatever game you are playing so it works out for any fan. Not sure what happens to the haters at that point...
So in less than 15 days, 90% of the game content will be added back in untested.
I find this hard to beleave.
No one can seem to answer my question.
What was in closed beta, that is not in open beta. Besides the main story and guildleaves (mob grinds)?

Ahh man, never seen this happen before, looks like you were reading another thread and somehow the forums stuck your reply in this thread instead. That must be it, because noone in this thread ever said they were sticking any content in at any time.
Anyways, I still don't see this huge lack of content you are talking about, I am playing the game and not running out of anything fun to do.

So it's a good as AoC, WAR, Darkfall, or Mortal Online... not really setting a high bar there.
If you played AoC, Aion, or Vanguard, what you're going to find here is a very uninteresting closed world with a unfamiliar user interface and a completely alien combat system.
Sounds just like those games.

I have often wondered that myself, I mean, I hate WoW, but I have never once sat on the forums for WoW, I dont read them and dont pretend to have any interest in it. I dont quite understand why people that hate a game spend there time on the forums for it. Confuses me, but then again, I confuse easily.

Wrong thread? What are you talking about in terms of OP's post?
Re-read the post slim, and if you actually played FFXIV and AoC and dont see the same exact linear movement through out the landscape (AoC because of the landscape design, FFXIV because of the lack of jumping) then maybe its just me and the folks I am playing with.

ROFL! I did read the OP, which is why I think this is just so assinine and funny. You're comparing ONE feature in each one of these games and then exclaiming "If you like this whole game, you'll LOVE FFXIV". That's the silliest thing I've ever read. If you liked AoC, Aion, and Vanguard as games, you'll hate FFXIV.

Never played FFXI, I am just using games I have played, and I am only talking about the feel of moving around the landscape and how linear it is, AoC was the same way, AoC, was that way by design of the landscape it self, you had to stay on the roads and could not just run straight across the zone like in most MMO's, while FFXIV is that way because of no jumping, you get stuck following the path they want you on most of the time.

Sorry, but your analysis is just wrong. If you like AoC, Aion and Vanguard, then your most likely not going to enjoy FFXIV. If you hated those three games, you will most definitely like FFXIV.

After having played all through CBT I can safely say the only game this game reminds me of is FFXI. IMO even in the ways listed by the OP (Crafting, combat, environment) it does not resemble Aion, AoC, or Vanguard in anyway. If you enjoy those games, even only in the aspects that the OP uses for comparison, you will not enjoy FFXIV. There are plenty of people that will enjoy this game, but the vast majority of them are FFXI vets.
