How is your connection in OB?

sudosudo Member UncommonPosts: 697

I would love to hear how bad the lag is for people, what their usual connection color is (green / yellow / red) and where they are from. You are welcome to stop reading here and just post your answer, unless you want to know what do I need it for :)

I am playing on Besaid, it was one of the first servers to get full from the start of OB and my connection is anywhere from yellow (most of the time) to red with obvious packet loss at times. Today I had a very unpleasant experience while mining. I was the first one to start on a node and the last one to finish with 4 other players joining in the middle. I had horrible delays between pickaxe swings while other players obviously did it much faster. I know mining is a lot about random numbers and luck but I saw how bad I was lagging compared to other players.

In combat the lag isn't so bad but while fishing or mining I can almost touch the server delay. Now I know, it's an open beta and they are stress testing servers. I fully understand and accept it. One thing I hate seeing is being the player who lags the most in a bunch of other players or a party.

Now my isp is quite good, I have a 12 mb download / 1 mb upload connection and I've used to have a stable ~100 ping to any european wow server (or any other mmo with european servers). So, trust me, it's not my isp. It might be my location, Israel, but there are some players from east coast with better connection, from what I could see on the forums. Now, unless I'm mistaken, Israel is closer to Japan than east coast or at least they are equal.

Would gladly appreciate any input from players from different counties since I might be considering cancelling my preorder if the lag stays as it is right now, even though I absolutely adore the game :(

I have noticed that my connection is not great.  I'm running on DSL so I don't expect my connection to be the best, however, I rarely have problems with other games/downloading/etc.  On the OB I have never gotten past a "yellow" connection and most of the time it dips to red.

EDIT: I do have my ports set up correctly on the game settings and my router.

Mines great, on Istory though and it's not one of the servers that are jammed so that may have something to do with it, green most of the time and occaisonally dips into yellow (mainly in the city states). Just on a run of the mill 15 mbps cable connection.

It's going to lag, they want us to stress the systems so that they can fix them.

I just hope they can fully stabilize the international servers, they seem really confident in the fact that we won't have region specific.

On a cable modem playing through a wireless router and I usually have green, sometimes it dips into yellow but I never seem to notice any network lag.

Thank you for posting, everybody. Could you please let us know where you are playing from? It really helps...

    Colorado

    Iowa, USA (midwest)

My S usually stays between 20-30

My R usually is between 200-947 (at least when I look, which is when I'm laggy)

The actual color of the icon is normally yellow

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Tbh, I don't really understand how sent and recieved packages translate into actual ping numbers. I used to think that R is an actual ping to the server but whenever it drops to really low numbers the connection sometimes goes red or even packet loss can be seen (R at 0). On the other hand, while R is at 700-800, the game can still be laggy and the color doesn't change to green.

Could anybody explain how it works, please?

my problem with FF14 is not net (its yellow, but the combat speed is so slow it makes no diference), my problem is the game ui and everything else looks like lags a lot, also lack of monsters to kill on your lvl, course you have guildleves but after you are done it no reason to try again unles you party a lot and normally new players tend to do things alone to get a grip of it, and I know 4 other peeps who have the same issue and others who did even cancel they pre-order after the OB, I just think the SE did shoot his on foot this time, unless they remade almost everything or at least raise more the combat speed and amount of mobs, make a better map to navigate and make mouse work on that thing
