Real annoying to read your comment about the claim that this game is a throw back to the good ol' days. Just because the UI is as clunky as an old Apple IIe game it doesn't mean that's a good thing.
The good old days were EQ days, and this game is nothing like that, at all. Not even close.
This game is a throw back to Toon Town, except Toon Town's mobs are scarier looking.
Im looking forward to spending most of my time with Japanese in the game as I intend to play it. But yah everyone might as well ignore this game and go to the next biggest MMO about to released. They'll have lots of fun playing that games Beta as well probably.

I will definitely be playing. I understand some of peoples issues but a few gripes are not going to stop me. I'm just loving the look and feel of the game world and I'm so glad I just bought a new PC.
The way it is this game isnt for everyone and that just the way it is. It can't really be helped its very love/hate at this point in time so the OP is some what sarcastically just stating the truth.
Any developer that doesn't include jumping and decent controls/immersion in a 2010-2011 MMO are just plain lazy. Firmly in the "bunch of money grabbing consol port idiots" catagory for me. If it was an indie developer I'd be more lenient but this is SE for crying out loud.
The tools tools to make realistic models/textures in games have vastly improved since 2004 so the fact that it has good graphics doesn't impress me. I want to see some serious gameplay/UI improvements.

I Personally don't like anime/asian cartoon graphics.
That rules out this game and all Asian MMO's. Don't even have to look at the -wonderful?- content of the game.

I dont know if you were joking but ruling out all asian mmos based on FFXIV might have been the dumbest thing yet go play AIon and see the character creation if anything that game from Korea has the best character creation in any game out now hands down with out all those anime graphics you dislike.

Their decision to not add jumping/swimming was to add to the immersion; if you have a city full of bunny hopping fools does that really make the experience more immersive? Also I was to ask you a question, how many times do YOU jump during a day? Not many, maybe not all... They are trying to make the world seem MORE real by excluding something that is pointless and menial. They have stood true to their IP, and their focus was not to reach out to millions, but instead to appeal to the niche that they appeal to. Also don't complain about content, you can trust it to have plenty of content, more than you need. The way they did it with FFXI and the way they are doing it here are no different. Now I agree, the UI is meh and could be better, but most games UIs suck. EVE had a nice UI, that's the only one I can think of, the rest I needed to get mods.
Save most of the game for release, then give it a month...once players start hitting this level content we will add it in such and such patch. So forth till everyone is cap, then they start adding more and more, fleshing out their game until it has become the FF behemoth we all would expect.
