Hi everyone,
I used to play Darkfall, I played it when the game originally came out and then returned again earlier this year; unfortunately, the biggest issue for me is that the developers don't talk to the players at all. They might do a Q&A every now and then but it just feels like they don't know how their players feel because they never respond to questions or join in on discussions on the forums (the last dev post was a month ago, ignoring the downtime issues post). This is a huge deal for me as I'm so used to it from reading all the posts from GC/community team on the WoW forums and the devs on the MO forum - don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Darkfall and I know every developer is different, but for some reason this feels like a dealbreaker.
Anyone else share the same concern?
Comments
Ah, seems they grew up and learned from their mistakes.
No I don't share your concern considering they have even had a player travel to their headquarters in Greece. That's pretty good communication. I guess I don't understand what more communication you are expecting? At this point we have a good idea of what's coming for sure and the things we aren't sure about tend to be things that they don't have completely ironed out yet. They appear aware of what players' issues are and appear to be working on them. Certainly they cannot cater to every single player, but in my mind they appear to be doing a pretty good job.
Recently some people complained about how the server was down and no one posted this info and that they were working to resolve the issue on their website. However, as I stated in those other threads, this is not important to me. I go to log in and can't therefore I know the server is down. AV is a company that wants to make money, like most, therefore I know they are already working on it. I don't need a post to tell me that.
I guess some people need an IRC channel with the devs in order to be satisfied.

blathering on the forums everytime you pass gas does not write code and modify databases. Nor does it troubleshoot network issues.
We already get more expansions per year than any other game except Ahsheron's Call. I really can't complain about that.
No, not at all.
I don`t understand all this whining on the forum. What is it in this patch that is so important?
-Is it more info about the funhulks you need?
-Is it more info about the quest and rep grinding?
-Is it more info about the new armor?
I honestly don`t know why people need to make posts about these mundane things. I`ll let you in on a little secret, the biggest problem in DF is lack of players. Without players the only fun part of DF falls apart, and that`s what happen on my server. AV should figure out why we don`t get new players and why we lose 90% of those who buy the game. Then they should fix those problems and ignore the 3% that thinks DF is just fine.
One of the bigest concern people have who don't play is that the world is big and it looks "empty" to them. This is the direction of the next patch, it will add new PvE elements and PvE "endgame" type elements..the players wait for these type of additions and want info about them, adding to that that the expansion is long overdue now many loose patience what i can understand..
More things to do of the type 'sandbox style' is all whats need to be added ..and this expansion sounds like the right step with the new PvE encounters and the endgame dungeons, the wandering mobs etc..

Haha true.
It`s sad to see what have happen to this once so great pvp game. Now it`s full focus on endgame dungeon, PVE, rep grinding and quest. All they have to do is take away the full-loot and we`ll have a new clone.
You are quite right.
It is much better to focus on 'hardcore gameplay' followed by soon shut down because it isn't generating needed revenue.
No reason to be melodramatic, PVE can peacefully co-exist with PVP, especially if the game is originally designed around PVP mechanics.
EVE has tons of PVE activites (no, really it does, it just doesn't focus on "quests") and most players spend quite a bit of time during their careers doing them. This gives EVE sub numbers in the 300K+ range which I'm sure Aventurine looks on in envy.
As long as they don't do anything to damage the core PVP mechanics DFO players should welcome changes that might bring in some new players. Heck, I might even give it a try some day.

With the addition of PvE elements adds the possibility for PvE/PvP hotspots as well as more things for players to do. PvP will never leave this game. I think your thinking is a bit shallow.
Like always you fail to see the difference of MMORPG "with emphasis on PvP" like the devs state and "a PvP game" you want Darkfall reduced to. Darkfall is very good and the best IMO on the PvP front and could use some more of those things that makes it more attrctive to those who don't want to PvP 24 / 7 ..Yea thats the guys you missing in your number equation..with just reducing the grind you won't get em, but i am sure many would join if they find find niches for their playstyle in game and i am sure if they are happy with thier playstyle they will also accept the FFA full loot part easier.
The statement that the devs now suddenly catering to "another" playstyle other then PvP is simply wrong..it was always their vision to create a "complete" MMORPG just with dominant ruleset of FFA full loot PvP :
"The objective, <...>, is to make it possible for players to follow virtually any type of career path they might want, becoming a de facto explorer, hunter, mercenary, smith, magician, fisherman or almost anything else by making the appropriate choices, with optional prestige classes such as Paladin, Assassin, Gladiator, Enchanter also available. All will adventure in an environment that differs from most others in its clearly stated emphasis on player vs. player combat."

no,
and to be completely frank in the world of MMO's if you can find an MMO where the biggest issue is dev communication then you got yourself a pretty solid game!
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Please do not respond to me
Problem with AV's communication is that players feel kind of cheated and not being valuable enough for AV to keep them in a good mood.
Today Tasos posted another delay of the expansion, with an ETA of "a couple of weeks." Last time Tasos said "a few more weeks" was on 14th July. So we can expect another delay until October / November.
Given the initial reason for the delay, "problems with the new terrain system" which they worked on the past 6 months, before announcing it being "done" 2 months ago, these excuses start to be ridiculous and you start wondering if they're really honest or if they're talking some bullshit to hide something and to keep the players subbed.
Also moderators are very quick at deleting any negative critics.
And adding the latest servers issues for both EU and NA AV gives the impression to not be at a good health:
Repeating server lags every couple of minutes (can't switch weapons, mobs run into ground / obstacles, you can shoot arrows but they're sent to nirvana, ...),
ping spikes,
sudden disconnects,
login problems since months (repeating "Lost connection to server (2)" when trying to launch the game after selecting your toon)
And these problems exist since months. Also the two EU server hardware failures took them more than 24 hours to fix and more than 4 hours to talk about.
EU server already gives an empty impression, not encouraging (new) players to stay.
I unsubbed my two accounts, lots of clan mates did the same. More and more players are leaving. I can't talk for the others but I really love Darkfall but I unsubbed to tell AV "Hey, I don't find it ok how you treat us." I know I'm a non-factor in the big ocean. But at least I feel comfortable with myself.
I doubt Darkfall goes the same way like Mortal. But with the current state of communication and information AV works hard to lose reputation and giving speculations room to grow.
