Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

To all FF14 potential players.

You may want to think about not coming to these forums anymore. If you are like me you are not going to learn anything that you wouldn't learn somewhere where the trolls aren't hanging around. Honestly, some of them are posting the same thing in every one of our threads where we look to have constructive discussions, in the hopes of derailing anything positive or helpful from being discussed. So I reccomend heading to one of these websites that all have amazing forum communities. Untill sometime after release when those particular individuals will be trolling a different game.

www.eorzeapedia.com

www.ffxivcore.com  and

www.bluegartr.com

You will find these people just as knowledgable about MMOs, maybe even more so, however, they are invested in some degree in FF14. This results in posts continuing in the theme originally created in the thread with a healthy discussion following and a great fountain of helpful information in the end (for the most part).

And don't get me wrong they do not favour FF14 just because they are invested in it to some degree. Their investment might stem from playing FF11 or just finding some mechanics and features so enthralling that they are going to give it the benefit of the doubt (or at least the benefit of an actual release lol ). Some still have many criticisms and discuss them, but with open minds (to a degree).

Anywho, hope that many of you leave this forum as an act of rebellion against the inability of this site in keeping the threads free of these "hanger's on" , who are wasting the time you'd like to devote to discussion of this game.

Truth be told, I don't get a whole lot of good coming to MMORPG forums after the games are released, either.  You generally encounter a lot of silly forum shinanigans that detract from the purity of whatever gaming experience you're attempting to savor.

Damned if visiting forums isn't a well-engrained habit for me, however.

I never come to these forums for any serious feedback. Aside from the articles written by the staff that is. Otherwise this site is all about comedy.

A real life friend of mine is in the beta and he has been keeping frequent status updates in Facebook about the game. As a longtime player of FFXI, I trust his reviews of the game. I won't say anything more than that.

Still, I like to read the comments on the forums here. For better or worse, mmorpg.com has one of the most interesting communities I've ever participated in. The Moderators work hard to prevent the riffraff from taking over, unlike some places (I'm looking at you, mmo-champion!).

Honestly, the reason I post on some threads is because I try to defuse what sounds heated and might boil over. I enjoy debate and open dialog. I think it's a good thing. As with anything in life, those that like to "stir it up" or say something just for shock value are attracted to forums like moths to a flame. Those are the posts that give me the biggest laughs.

Some people do ask valid questions and I think they should be shown respect and given an honest answer.

I don't look for reviews or knowledge of any game from any forum. Quite frankly, no one could influence me anyway. If I want a game I buy it.

After you hang out on forums long enough, you learn to skip right over the BS.

MMORPG.com is mostly for those looking for an MMO to play. The general vibe is rather negative. I love the site, don't get me wrong, but people who REALLY enjoy FFXIV are on the Core forums, not here (in general anyway).

These forums are like this for every game before launch.  Completely taken over by haters..  I think most people know that by now.  For the few that are fans they aren't going to be affected by the haters here.

I agree though if you are a fan and actually want to discuss the game visit one of the other sites.  This is for flaming and anti flaming for the most part and always will be leading up to launch and shortly after.  These forums have been like this for every game since at least SWG including WoW.

Now it is worse since people seem bent on comparing games that have been out for 4-5 years to ones in beta and holding them up to the same standards.  I think you get this anytime you have a public forum with a melting pot of different tastes, but I have never seen one with so much negativity.  Look at videogames.com.  For the most part fans surround their games and post good constructive feedback on both sides, but you don't have non fans hitting the forums for the games every day posting hate and trolling constantly.  Maybe it is because of the limited genre or just the emotional involvement with MMO's, but it is a bit sad.

Is the FF14 fans overly sensitive or someitng. Every other thread started in this forum seems to be a FF14 fan complaining about trolling and people being negative. Seems to be more whining about whining than actual whining about the game here :)

Why don't you talk about what you like about the game isntead? So far I don't think I have seen 1 thread where people say why FF14 is a good game and why I would want to play it.

So far the only good thing fans seems to list is "It's not like WoW"

Eh ok, it is not like WoW... and?

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I agree, the general vibe on mmorpg.com is more negative than on a number of other game and MMO sites I visit; not only the FFXIV section btw. I guess it's because you'll find a lot more jaded MMO gamers here who've grown bored and tired with MMO's.

@OP: thanks for the links, I was already looking for sites with more actual information without having to wade through the jungle of whines, complaints and emotional rants. image

Apparently a lot of MMO gamers have throughout the years unlearnt how to adapt to different gameplay controls and mechanics, wanting it all to be easy-mode and one flavor now.

I look for directions, trends in the conversations so to speak. It's fairly easy to weed out fanbois, trolls and haters. Boil down a dozen actual 'articles' and you can often get a trend. For example, the trend in many/most of these posts is that FF14 is 'bad' for a number of reasons. While I do agree with a number of concerns, mouse usage (or lack of) and the high system requirements being my primaries, I choose to decide for myself.

The forums are a good starting point to get new ideas. I use them for that.

You consider the articles by the staff serious feedback? Most of their stuff is just as bad as the rest of the forum, the only thing it might give is an idea on how far a game is in its developement or of upcoming changes. Articles that have real quality are few and far. Then again, this is the internet, so what to expect.

The thing I notice here the most in that people can't just be people with opinions and information to offer, they have to be lumped into either of the 2 groups which are.. you guessed it...

    Fanboi

    or

    Troll

That is a lack of intelligence to think that way where games are much more than can be described as good or bad.  The goal is to have discussions on all the aspects of the game good and bad and let people draw their own conclusions.

If the forums here were monitored better and people made to stay on topic instead of posting blatant, or near insults, then it would be a lot smoother.  But there is a lot of good information here for all people and not just people that want to talk about their current infatuation of the month.  The negetive aspects of a game deserve as much respect in conversation as the good aspects of a game.  People shouldn't be bashing other people for opinions either way.

so if i'm reading this right, you don't like the fourms because they're garbage, but then you don't like a huge majority of the articles for the same reason, my question is, why hang out at a place you don't like? me personally i've not read anything article wise i didn't like, then again i've only read articles about stuff i wanted to hear about so i guess i'm biased too. and as far as the fourms being "troll" this or "negative" that.....like you said it's the internet.

and frankly that's all i need, i was never overly gear happy or an achievement whore which is what wow wants you to be. (and please don't play the "what gear did you have?" game.....trust me i win.) i stuck around for my friends and those who i thought were my friends from the game.  once most of them skiped out or spread out to different servers, rather than make like dozens of toons across different servers i decided to give wow a break. everyone that was left on kae'thas to me at least wasn't worth the effort.
