Soloing?

YeeboYeebo Member UncommonPosts: 1,361

I am an anti-social bastard that like to play MMORPGs solo. So sue me.

To the sages of this board I post this question: Can you adavnce at a decent pace in this game playing mostly solo? If so, what classes are good at it and which ones bite. Thanks!

PS: I'm actually a fairly decent fellow, i just tend to play for one hour blocks of time. Because of that I rarely group in any game.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Yes, it's possible to solo, although it's generally faster to level with a group (assuming you can find a good group of course, which isn't always easy).  The best classes for soloing are the Red Mage and the Beast Master.  The Beast Master is probably a more effective soloist, although you'll have to be at least lvl 30 to unlock the class.  If you want you can level RDM up to 30, then sub RDM for BST and you won't have to level your sub again until the mid-60's.

Of course, most people prefer WHM as a sub for BST, but RDM works too.  Although you don't get all the status cures, you do at least get spells that increase your resistance to status ailments, so that's something.  I have also heard that RDM/NIN is a pretty good combo for soloing, although in order to make it effective you need money for powders so that you can use your Ninjitsu.

You can solo in this game but you will miss out on the story line and missions. Some of the best gear for your job you also have to have help getting. The level cap items I would think would be impossible to get solo.

The most soloable job the beastmaster also is more affective being in a group with another person.

To get the most out of the game you have to have a good linkshell that will help you and you help them.

I would think another MMORPG may be for you.

Oh also this game is a huge time sync. Being married and having a baby on the way, I'm thinking of finding another game myself.

Believe me, you can not get decent experiance from soloing. If you want decent experiance its a must to have a group.

It seems that it is as I feared. I really want to try the game, but I don't get to play more than an hour or two an evening (ten hours a week max). Thanks for the feedback!

FFXI CAN be a time sinkhole.... and it could be very efficient. Depending on if you have a static group or not, you can get away with playing a few hours a week. One game that you might want to look at for solo-ability is WOW. You can honestly solo to the highest level (60) within 3-4 months at the pace you are looking for. The only reasons you would want to party is to get in a thing called an instance, its a place with higher end mobs and you do special quests there. But other than that, this game is pretty much soloable or perfect for duos.

ummmm i don't think so.  in fact anyone who says this game is soloable, besides beastmaster, is flat out lying.  but if you consider taking 100 hours to level soloing compared to 3 hours to level in a group, then yeah i guess you can say this game is "SOLOABLE."  i played a darkknight to 46 and all i can say is you'll take an avg of 1+ hour just to get a group if you're lucky.  i tried to solo easy mobs and it still took me forever to kill one and had to rest/med up fully for the next one.  basically i was getting like 25 xp soloing in 3 - 4 minutes cause i coulnd't get a group.  in a good group, you can get 100xp per minute.

Banned from Blizzard cause I was too GOOD!!!

Hes right. And dont listen to RDM can solo, because they cannot (belive me, Im a red mage). Red Mages solo at lvl 70+ on decent mobs, then at lvl 75 RDM/NIN can solo HNMs and such, which is pretty amazing. But I'll tell you this right now, theres no way a Red Mage is soloing up to 75 or even up to 30. You'd probably level DOWN more frequently than you level UP. Red Mage is one of the most group oriented jobs there is (refresh...remember?).

Beastmasters will solo their way to 75, and they're seen as the antisocial class, so have fun with it! (Thats the only job you'll be playing if you're so antisocial lol). Rangers can solo as well to a certain extent (certainly better than red mage!!) On worms, which dont move but only stick their head out of the ground. They cant chase you, and therefore, rangers can just snipe them out from afar. However, after a while you'll run out of places with decent worms to kill, and at those times you're basically screwed. The highest I've ever heard anyone solo with a RNG is to 50 I think...

imageimageI'm, just so confused by some of the posts about this game not being good because you have to group... is there people who get upset that there is people in a chat room when they go in one to chat?? o_O  Something about complaining that you cant play by your self in a "Massive MULTI-PLAYER Online Role playing game" just seems a bit... silly to me.  Sure, the game can get boring if you only play the game to jump on and level a character, but then, how is that role playing either?  theres some people who buy these games and never level past 5.. they sit in a large town, fish, and talk with other people, that thats awesome to them.  I just think that buying an online game so you can play by yourself is a bit foolish, what do you guys think?

You're right in the sense that RDM are PT oriented, in that, they can refresh the MP of their PT members, but that doesnt mean they HAVE to. RDM can solo pretty well, not like a BST, but not horribly later on. Most of what you would solo would be DC or EP, i mean even I can solo to some degree. And i don't know what HNMs you're talking about, maybe King Arthro, but RDM cant solo any of the larger HNMs, but I do have a RDM friend that solos the SMN avatars, various missions, and otehr harder quests for me and my LS members.
