Lamest community ever!

LohdownLohdown Member UncommonPosts: 78

Seriously, is there some super secret chat room in this game that I don't know about?  Doesn't anyone talk in this game?  Doesn't anyone want to group?

I throw out a say asking if anyone wants to group with me and I get a d-bag calling me a retard because I am wasting my time standing around trying to get a group at level 2.  I don't give a shit what level I am.  Last I checked this was a multiplayer game.  If I want to solo then I will go harvesting or play a single player game on my PS3.

Trust me, I am not one that even talks a lot in MMOs, but this is down right rediculous.  Say what you will about the faults of this game, but so far I see the biggest problem being the lame ass, boring community.

The moment I read "It's like" or "WoW" is the moment I stop reading your post.

A bad community in an open beta? This game is destined to fail for sure.

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

It is not a community, it is a open beta. It takes at least 3 months after launch for a community to form.

Lamest bunch of often beta testers ever would be the right phrase.... And you havn't been in the same OBs as I then....

  • jdnewelljdnewell Member UncommonPosts: 2,237

    It is open beta.

My experiences with open betas i have played are pretty much the same, Not alot of people wanting to group or socialize. Just the nature of the beast I suppose.

Upon release when the people who actually intend to play long term things will probably be different.

It's saterday, the community is getting wasted in a bar contemplainting the would be awesomeness off this game .. that never came to pass.

Hurry up and join us ....

Aion was the same way from my experiences in CB and OB

  • natuxatunatuxatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,364

Yeah it's hard to judge a community based on OB. Most people just want to try the game and have no intention on making friends since their characters will get erased and such. Plus everyone is probably too busy trying to figure out the game in the first place. :p

I have to agree, the community for FFXI was fun, boistrous and very nice. I remember fishing in Windurst with a bunch of people and we fished for a few hours while we joked and chatted. I remember sitting around the Valkrum Dunes waiting for a healer while chatting and having fun with my party.

So far the FFXIV community is absolutely nothing like that.

Edit: Yeah, people are right. It's OB, hopefully the release game will be different.

My personal experience with betas and these games is as such:

    Alpha/closed beta = great community.

Open beta/early release = the most horribly vile bunch of d-bags I have met.

After free month expires to about 3months in = much friendlier community.

We're all trying to test the game and it's features with a broken mouse and terribly optimized graphics. Idk about other people, but I find it frustrating trying to test the game under such conditions and the last thing I want to do is be dragged around in a group while I try to figure stuff out, lag around, and yell at my screen because I have to hit a menu button and then click through several other buttons with a hit or miss mouse and UI lag just to open up my abilities list.

Give it time, once ( IF ) the game gets optimized and patched up (hopefully pre-release, at least a little bit) and people can play the game and actually enjoy it, people will want to group and chat.

At least there's the mouse fix now, but even that was made by a solo modder.

The OP might be confused a little too.

There is no "worldwide chat" channel unlike other games in beta. Other games you could have people in several continents all yakking away on /regional or something.

FF mmos are designed in such a way that you only get /say and /shout. Those don't carry far as the 'real' community (those who play FFXI) don't like to read "HEY.. IZ DIZ GAME COME WITZ JUMP OR WHATZZZZ?!?!?!" or "DIZ GAME SUXX.. WHY NO PVP, AND WHY CAN'T I FLY DAMMIT?!?!?!" 1000 times a day during beta.

Or during launch for that matter.

Sorry man but you sound like you maybe hyped up on red bull and no-doze. I never pictured the OB crowd as helpful nor really being close-knit before the wipe. They all tend to be (well at least for me) laid back and filled with people trying to perfect their plan of action when the game goes retail. If you cannot learn to take things in stride then you can pretty much forget about trying out any future open betas. You'll only disappoint yourself.

not everyone whos gonna purchase the game is even in open beta and sometimes most of the people in the open beta are dbags that just want in to talk shit to people because things dont suit their needs :P every open beta is the same shit ive come accross retards while roaming around some of the cities there but ive found some nice helpful people around as well  i dont even take most of the OB people serious anyways because their always the same whiny lil kids posting on forums about things that didnt go there way :P

  • NadriellNadriell Member UncommonPosts: 197

from my own personal experience and attitude, in OB i have found an LS, we talk a lot and a couple of us are going to stick together outside of release. I just keep in my head that none of this really matters, and i will probably never seen any of these people again, save for a few, so i just stay impersonal and don't bother, i focus on deciding whether the game play is enjoyable and look for bugs and errors as thats what a beta is for...

when the game goes live i will worry about community. untiil then, this is all just a dream..... shhh go back to sleep now.

Anyone else get the mental picture from a thread topic, "lamest community ever" of some guy courting the in-crowd thumbing his nose at us and calling us a bunch of geeks and nerds?

Anywho, I got into an argument with some guy on FFXIV today, I betcha he thinks we're the lamest community ever too, but  really I think it's more like any MMORPG is going to have players of all types and whoever you manage to run into will be generally the same type people regardless of the game except perhaps colored by their preference in the specific game mechanic offered by that game.

It's also rather technically hard to chat bcause:

    • The chat line is rather small, only facilitating about 120 characters at a time, give or take.

    • Many activities in the game, such as crafting or equipping weapons, tend to remove focus from the chat line and even delete what you wrote in there completely, making it rather difficult to chat while doing anything.
  • terroniterroni Member Posts: 935

I'm under the impression that the chat radius is rather small. That would lead many who don't know that to give up in frustration at not getting questions answered and/or groups formed. Just a guess.

I must say it's the first beta i've been in with gold spammers though.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

    I may be wrong but I don't think they have/plan to implement a server-wide city-wide chat setting.

I think that's a good thing.. after playing Aion and WoW that both have city-wide server-wide chatting, hardly any good comes from it. Too many trolls and people abusing the chat system to gain attention, knowing that everyone can see them make a fool of themselves.

If they don't implement the server/city-wide chats then people will have to do things the old fashioned way. Run up to someone and ask them. They'll either ignore you, be a d-bag, or help you out. In every community theres d-bags, but just because you run into one doesn't mean everyone is a d-bag.

there is no sense in forming a community when characters get wiped.

The chat system is fairly easy to discern if you've played games before they had default regional chat (barrens for instance). /say radius is local, think over head text range. /shout is far. Now the question is, do most people even know that there is a /shout chat?

Yeah I get what you talking about nobody really wants to group at all especially at lvl 2. I don't know if you have grouped up yet but for me it was really hard except when I was grouping with friends of mine while using vent, Otherwise it's more of a pain then a bonus. Also I'm like most people just checking the game out and trying to figure out the system so that when it releases I have less of this running around like a chicken with it's head cut off stuff.

So I don't think people are too concerned with developing good and lasting friendships that will come in time.

Don't expect any real community or even much chat in a Open Beta. It comes much later after launch, takes time for a community to build up. Same with every game or anything new.

    Play: -
Played: FFXIV, WAR, Allods, Aion, AoC, DDO, EQ2, GW, Lotro, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WoW

  • StrahdZStrahdZ Member Posts: 22

Most people are running through checking everything out and not worried about leveling.  And half the time someone wants to talk I can't because the lag during synthing is so bad it won't let you type or half way through typing something it closes the window and erases everything you typed.

It's hard to chat and be social when you're just testing out a game.  Sorta busy with exploring the game features.  Besides, we'll all have to start over again.  No sense getting too involved in the social aspect of the game, other then trying out all the chat features and such.

But I did notice there's not very much chat...prolly less they what I'm used to even for a beta.

It'll get better after people settle in.
