I turn on my computer this morning, it had a strange blinking light, and all the sudden this deep grinding noise is coming from it. I try to turn it off from the front button but it won't go, so I have to go to the power supply and turn it off from there. I am assuming it was the power supply itself that was the source, but I don't know. Anyways my computer is pretty much dead, I am still getting a green light but that's about it... Any help would be great, thanks.

Could be your Hard Drive Dying...Do you get to the start up screen?
ps: This should be on the Hardware section of the forum.

sounds like the Hard drive to me also

Power supply. I had multiple award winning brand name yadda yadda power supplies die on me just like you described so I'd bet on that.
Edit: If only the hdd is defect you will still get to the bios screen.
Hard Drives, Optical Drives, Disk Drives, and Fans grind. Power supplies pop and spark. If it didin't turn off from the power button, it might just be a wire was eaten by your fans.
I never had a failing power supply grind before. Only fans and harddrives from what ive seen.

You could have at least said that you moved the tread so we don’t pointlessly post here

Not a computer expert, but I have had fans go on me with that sound. Afterwards some parts of the computer will turn on but quickly shut off from overheating.
Open it up. Turn it on, look what happens.
If the light turns on as you said, means the powersupply still kind of work, else no power for the light.
If it's on and you see nothing turn it off again, feel the the cpu (Heatsink) and GPU, check if they are too hot.
If there you see/feel nothing strange, look if you can get a test powersuply, connect that one and check if ithat works.
My computer makes a strange grinding noise most of the time. I took it back to the PC shop, and they said they couldn't hear any grinding noise and couldn't find anything. I took it back home and after a few days, it started making that noise again. Sometimes it stops for a few days or even a few weeks, and then it comes back again.
I have no idea what is actually making the noise. I opened the case a few times, but then the grinding stopped. I put the case back on and it started grinding again a few days later.
I gave up on trying to figure what is going on.
Its the little trolls in your computer trying to get out.

Judging by his hardware he need atleast a 550W true rated PSU but maybe his MOBO is grounded check your hard drive for bad sectors usually its the first that gets damaged if its a PSU failure
A grinding sound would likely be the HDD, and as you still seem to have power, the first step you need to do is to locate the error: Remove all unneccesary peripherals. That is hard drives, disk drives, PCI cards and so on. Try to boot again. If it still doesn't work, try to remove your graphics card. If you have broken hardware, your motherboard might not even get to the POST screen in order to protect the rest of the hardware. If it still doesn't work, see if you can get another PSU and plug it in.
A grinding sound could be the hard drive, but it sounds like the computer won't even turn on. If that is the case then we can rule out the hard drive, because we should still be POSTing.
That actually depends on how damaged it is. We aren't talking damage sectors here, we are talking hardware malfunction which might have short-circuited the serial interface producing an unhealthy voltage. I know it's unlikely, but not all together impossible. When I debug I rarely make assumptions on things that can easily be tested. All he needs to do is to remove the cables from the harddrive and try to boot. Takes 10 seconds and then you know for sure it's not the hard drives.
Generally when PSU's are fucked, they completely bug out(in order not to create a surge). He shouldn't even have a green LED if that was case. That said, it's probably more likely that it's PSU, but testing out the hard drives takes much shorter time, hence why I recommend doing that first.
we need more info on how old his machine is and i dont think hes comming back here to tell us what happened
