Honestly, someone tell me why doesn't anyone answer the OP's questions, instead of offering up Guild Wars or whatever game you are in love with at the moment?
WoW being boring is going to depend on you, you may find it boring immediately - then it never was for you to begin with. You may power level through it and find it boring at end-game. It is hard to judge what is going to be boring for someone else. What types of games have you played in the past and what makes something boring for you. Fill that in and maybe that will tell you what WoW has or doesn't have to meet that.
Originally posted by Thoemse It's hard to describe. WoW has everything a good MMO needs. It's polished it has tons of quests, good graphics and sound..... One thing it does lack though: This game has no single new idea. Nothing - nada!
Agreed. If you've played a couple MMOs before you quickly realize that WoW is a rehash. A well done rehash, but a rehash none-the-less.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
What a lot of people, power gamers especially, fail to realize about WoW that makes it different than many other MMOs is that right now, the game doesn't begin at level 60. When you look at many of the other games out there, you had to be a certain level in order to start participating in the "fun." This lead to a mentality that you have to grind quickly, killing only monsters that lead to the greatest XP per hour so you can get to the max level ASAP.
WoW isn't designed for that. In WoW, a great deal of the fun is supposed to be in the journey to get to level 60. If you powergrind your way up to level 60, bypassing quests that don't give amazing loot or high amounts of XP, the game will get boring to you very fast. If you take your time to do the quests without looking everything up on thottbot first to see step by step instructions on how to finish the quest, if you explore the world, going into an area you've never been just because you've never been there, if you take the time to pick a couple of professions and level them up for a while, there's a ton of stuff to do. Once you hit level 15 or so, you'll have to be careful to juggle your quests so your quest book isn't full.
I'm having a great time in the game, and don't find it boring at all. I'm taking my time tho - I play 2-3 hours a night. I do the quests. I don't grind. If it's a quest I haven't done before, I try to figure it out myself - I don't spam general chat or use thottbot to get detailed directions on where to go.
So basically, it comes down to your playstyle. If you have a compelling urge to race to 60, you'll be disappointed when you get there. If you take your time, enjoy things along the way, and do quests even if they aren't optimum for XP per hour, you'll love the game.
No, it doesn't offer a lot of new or groundbreaking ideas. However, it does take the best ideas from many of the games out there and adds quite a bit of polish to them. I think it's well worth my money, but it also fits my style of gameplay, and I will be the first to say it's not for everyone. Hopefully I provided you with information to help make up your mind.

Almost every post in this thread answers the OP's questions. Are you even bothering to read it at all?
been playing for around 3 months now, i have a main character, a druid to level 32.
The game has been the least boring i ever tried, never in this 3 months i have a moment in which i felt the need to log out and play some other single player game or felt that i was just losing my time. WoW gives you a great sense of purpose and progression thanks to its quests and great region system. Each region is quite radically different from the next, including environment and sounds. Each is breathtaking.
You also have a choice on where you want to do the quests as you are not limited to a single region all the time.
Conclusion: not boring at all.

I completely agree with this. I really wish the game had greater depth to go with this super visual and stylistic qualities it has, and moreso for its rather shallow crafting system. I'm hoping that Blizzard will provide that level of depth in future releases/patches, so that I can truly enjoy the diverse qualities of the gaming world.

Thats cool. But then u will reach lvl 60 and the fun will fade out. U will try new chars in new races for new quests but all in all its just the same thing...
just an advice of sum1 who played it alot
About the areas being different, yes thats really nice in WoW. But if u play GW u will see each mission area is different aswell, and the exploration areas...

In other words, it ends at 60? I'm no power gamer, I have no time for it... but in 60 u dont have great things to accomplish... just do the hardest quests to find some stuff.... nothing special at all. I think its the lack of a good pvp system, becoz I had no fun once I "ended" a game (thats supposed to not end).
roleplay as a medic. healing people for tips, or become a bounty hunter, and if that bores you, get a joysticka nd go blast some npc's or fellow players in space. play SWG.
I'd say there's less frustration playing it than any other mmo. At the same time it never really gets deeper as your character develops, so it does start to get stagnant.

it is no problem. After UO (my First) it has been rare for me to stay on the same game for more than 3 months tops (DaoC and AO are there). then i would start jumping from one to another and so on.
If WoW continues like this, it will take at least other three months to 60, probably more. 4 or 5? and by then who knows what has been implemented? plus there is a whole world (my enemy faction) that i know very little about (max a 16th warlock) and so there is time spent there too...
I'm also in a good roleplayer guilds and we organize raids, swimming nights, dragon hunts and the like. so... so far so good!

That is what you do at level 60. Raid and have fun with your guild. IMO almost every fantasy mmorpg is the same at the level cap. Then expansions come out and you take advantage of that. New areas, places to raid ect.
Also Roleplaying makes the game funner then when you are on a normal server.
WoW is the best mmorpg ever made so if you dont like WoW I dont think you will like any other mmorpgs. Tons of content, great community (if you join a good guild ofcourse). I remember when EQ fun boys were spaming all forums about how EQ2 is great and WoW is another laggy boring game. errr. Guess what? You got owned losers. I'm currently level 60 priest so basically my everyday rutine is to find a raid group and go clean Molten Core or kill Onyxia for epic set items. If we already done with it couse these are on 7 days cooldown we are going to kill outdoor boss like Kazzak or Azuregos for the non-set epic items. and if they are dead already thats where pk comes in. ))) if I would recomend an mmorpg game to someone where close to me it without a doubt will be WoW.
boring? no fun? yes
yeah and I would recommend you to select rogue as your class. the most fun class in the game. but its your choice and I leave it to you but mark what I said.
I was really hardcore into world of warcraft, it was probably the best mmorpg ive ever played. But after you get to 60 its pretty boring, all you do is run the same instances to get good items ubrs strath scholo it gets really boring after awhile, there new honor system could change that though. I kinda gave up on it tho, i might start back up when bg are ingame but until then im gonna give guild wars a whirl with a few rl friends. If you like mmorpgs tho you will probably love wOw.

Yes, I have read them all. 1/2 of what was posted, before I responded, had nothing to do with the OP's question. Of those 1/2 that did, alot of the content had nothing to do with the OP's question.
This thread has been an opportunity for a lot of WoW suxors get GW posts, so I feel comfortable saying that Guild Wars is not a game for true MMOG fans. GW is based on heavy instancing which does not provide a persistent virtual world atmosphere since you are limited to meeting and seeing people in certain areas. I hated it and I am mainly a soloer, lol.
To answer the original OP's question, WoW is a fun game from the start which is not dependent on racing to lvl 60 to participate in worthwhile content. I find myself grouping a lot in WoW, more than any other MMOG I have played in the past 8 years, not because I have to or am forced to, but because I desire to in order to accomplish some group designed content, and I am enjoying it.
The beauty of WoW is that you can solo to 60, and solo tradeskills, all of them, and be self sufficient if you want to. There is plenty of content for both soloing and group/raid players, and pick up groups are very easy to find if you are not guild oriented.
It is a well structured game that will lead you from zone to zone through well conceived and interesting quests. You can choose to level that way or just grind if you are so inclined, but quests are abundant and offer the best experience, rewards, lore, and FUN.
Graphics are warm and lifelike, and character models have texture, not robotic and glossy like some competitors. The amount of customizing that exists thru a variety of weapons, armor and enchantments is limitless.
