I was looking at info about revealed release dates, and just realised: the first 6 months of 2011 are gong to be hectic.
Why?
See the list of MMO's that are planned to come out in that period: CATA (well, not new, but still big and coming out end 2010-begin 2011), SW:TOR, GW2, TERA, Rift.... ugh
Yikes.
Clash of the titans.
Sure, there'll be a bit shuffling, but still, that's an incredibly packed line up - especially when compared to the stale former years. Maybe even too packed.
You'll not hear me complaining, but for all the people who have more than one favorite among that line up will face an incredibly busy time, MMO wise

hmm realy????......i see just two good games and thats GW2 and Rift.
Some of these will be revealed as stinkers I'm sure. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

I doubt all of them release then, with swtor being the most likely to be pushed back for more polish.
I would say 2 probably make it out, and 2 in the second half, if I had to bet.
I would say TERA/Rift in first half, GW2, and swtor in second...With swtor the last one out of the 4.
No hate, just seems to be how it will probably work out, as I have interest in all but TERA, atleast from what I have seen...Its not my thing, but a lot are excited and not saying anything bad about it.
Ah, but then you've already 2 favorites to choose from over a relatively short period of time
I don't think anybody is waiting for all the 5 releases to play, but most MMO gamers have at least 1 or 2 favorites among that list they're eagerly looking forward to and intend to play.
How many favorites someone has differs from one gamer to the next, but it's extremely likely that most MMO gamers won't be as bored with MMO gaming as before that period.

Completely agree. What makes it even worse, for some of us, especially myself, I still have Lord of the Rings Online(I'm a lifer, so that helps a bit) and FFXIV to play and to add to the MMO shuffle. /sigh Where were these games in the last 4 years when I needed a break from WoW and Lotro? Instead I had to suffer through games like WAR, AoC and Aion which are so shallow and lack all the necessary MMORPG draws.
i'll be playing both prolly......GW2 is free and Rift i gladly pay for
I agree that there are too many new MMOs coming out together.
But personally I am really interested only in RIFT and GW2 with WOW CATA as a back up.
SWTOR is not really exciting me at all and TERA is AION reloaded.
So considering that one of my 2 favorites has no subscription (GW2) this gives me the chance to play 2 MMOs at once (I will pay for RIFT)
2011 will be a good year for me
I'm gonna try them all...
I think "Blade & Soul" comes out in 2011 too?... and also "The Secret World"?
I'm very excited about "The Secret World".
In any case, it's gonna be a crazy year for gamers, and a busy one, and the forums will explode.
Gonna be good
B&S comes out in Korea in 2011 it's not coming out in NA and Europe then since gw2 will more than likely be released in 2011 and that is the NcSoft game that is aimed at the western audience and they don't want the two games to clash.
Looking forward to TOR myself, definitely going to be playing that one. Its getting the same sort of hate that WoW has been getting in the last year or so, and yet WoW is still pretty popular. Remains to be seen if all the uproar is truly worth it, but going to try it all the same, seen lots of interesting details released so far.
I want to get into cataclysm as well, I've been playing WoW as my main for 3+ years now (since before BC) and its hard to just completely leave everything behind. I've been kinda burnt out on WoW the last 9 months or so, didn't even play for 6 straight months (resubbed in August) but I'm interested in all the changes happening, so it should be fun to play awhile at least.
GW2, TERA and Rift have pretty well flown under my radar. GW never really interested me, and I have Global Agenda and LotRO for casual play now, so GW2 is something I probably won't ever play. The other two didn't really seem to have a whole lot to set them apart from the market and make them something I would play. Though maybe I'm just ignorant, probably not paying close enough attention. XD
As for release dates, I figure Cata xpac for the end of the year, seeing as how they're in beta already and they've got roughly 3 months until December holiday season. SWTOR will probably be somewhere around May, if I had to guess. I don't really mind when it comes out, if they take the time to solidify the content and polish everything. I'm hoping GA and LOTRO get more content before then as well, as they are both fun in their own way (LOTRO's community is surprisingly nice, even with f2p now.)
So yeah, that's my opinion. Thanks for reading.
TL;DR: Going to be a busy year.
Toilet Paper players: Players who are useless after 1 or 2 wipes.
GW2, Rift, TERA. I'll definitely try whichever comes first. And play GW2-Rift or GW2-TERA when all are released.
It will have more big launchs in 2011 than in 4 years.
It will be freaking awesome to see a FFA arena where those games will fight eachother to get more attention.
Well except for GW2 that dont have subscriptions.
A busy year indeed.
Im looking forward to GW2, but I might look at Rift and SW:TOR (If they polish it more)

I'll play whatever is good, except WoW. Not going back to WoW. Looking forward to Rift and GW2 the most. Midly interested in SWTOR and TERA.

I'm just happy that in what seems like a decade (though I know it's truly not) I'm finally interested in an upcoming game that will launch in a highly polished state in Rift. Should that indeed carry through it'll be nice for a change to not be up to my keyboard in bugs and waiting on promises of this and that being "fixed" in a miracle patch to be released "soon".
While I have no interest in TERA, GW2 or SWTOR I do hope for their fans sake that those games aren't plagued with the industry's recent "rush to launch because the investors or publisher is pressuring the dev" syndrome.

I am not 100% sure how many of those games that actually releases in the first half of the year. MMOs tends to be delayed and many of the games doesn't even have a release date.
Cata were suppose to release this summer, or so many sources say, so around X-mas is not unlikely but Blizzard are well known for delaying games a lot (The remade Diablo 2 from scratch 3 times and the game released years after the first official date, and they canceled Starcraft: Ghost when it was already in beta) so if it releases in spring 2011 it wouldn't be a great surprise to me.
GW2 is currently at the top of my list, mainly because I loved the first game. I am not sure that it releases in the first half of the year however. But there are many other interesting games releasing in 2011, finally a good MMO year. I still hope that World of darkness online releases late in the year even if 2012 is more likely.
I imagine it will be the same as every year for the past five years; a lot of exciting looking games coming out and the majority of them will not live up to the hype or people's expectations.
Rinse and repeat for 2012.

If more than 2 of the major titles acutally launch in the 1st 6 months I'll be quite surprised.

heh. Or it could be like the last months of 2004 and the first months of 2005, when MMO's like EQ2, WoW and GW got released, games that continued to be a lot of fun to a lot of MMO gamers. No trends or patterns stay the same forever

None of the Above
All of them: Sick of a fantasy setting, and SW universe is weak sci-fantasy rather than good sci-fi IMO.
GW2 / SWTOR : To big of hype trains for their own good. Not saying either will be bad, but neither will meet the deluded expectations some may have for them. (GW2 dynamic events/personal story being biggest offender of over-hype).
Rift : The talant/advancement system looks cool, but beyond that, this game doesn't do anything new or individual to it. When I played at PAX last weekend, it wasn't broken, but it wasn't captivating either. Very generic.
TERA: Cool combat but to many unanswered questions. Will mob AI actually become a challenge at higher levels, or will the action gameplay be 'wasted' on stupid creatures. A lot of their deeper systems (politics and pvp) haven't had any real gameplay behind them.
Not saying any of the games will be inherently bad/broken, but the market is thick with fantasy games, adding more won't really change the flavor to much.
IMO, I'm waiting for Secret World, Earthrise, FireFall and WH40K:DMO.
TSW: Even though FC knows how to release broken games, they've got a cool enough world setting to have me interested.
Earthrise: All things look promising, just need more gameplay footage though.
FireFall: This live demo was hands-down the coolest MMO-releated experience from PAX for me. Tons of potential.
40K:DMO : I like 40k, I liked Darksiders, and I like how the videos are turning out.

I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power.
Support games with subs when you believe in their potential, even in spite of their flaws.
Earthrise is the only game on the horizon that I really care about right now, I'm hoping it makes it out by the end of this year or the beginning of 2011. I might pick up GW2 if a lot of people seem to like it because hey, there's no sub. The Secret World is probably over a year away, and who knows how long after that before it's playable, so I'm just looking at that as a late 2012 game.
