Lineage 2: Server Merges Announced

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

NCSoft has announced server mergers in both North America and Europe beginning October 5, 2010. North American servers will be merged into a single server with the same happening in Europe. NCSoft is taking nominations for the new combined server names and has announced that any characters under level 20 that have not been played in the last year will be deleted when servers unite.

In order to promote a healthy and competitive environment, as well as to offer a better overall experience in Lineage II, we will be combining North American servers, as well as European servers, on October 5, 2010. We intend to make this transition as smooth as possible for all of our players and are confident that the end result will provide a thriving community of dedicated Lineage II players.

Well, I'm glad it's still going. The server merge will certainly help the game more than hinder it.

At this point, those who are in it for the long haul are "in it". So having a healthy population is important.

Heck, I'd still be playing if it wasn't for the brutal economy. Good that they aren't canceling it.

    x2

I use to love L2 but times have changed and I have moved on. For such a old game, the graphics still blow many new games out of the water.

Good news for the Lineage fans i guess, Nothing worse then playing on ghost servers =/

Ive always wanted to try this game, maybe ill give it a go now after the server merges, should be plenty of people to group with and stuff then i guess :)

How many servers do they have each in US and EU? Before the merge that is.

    Currently Playing Path of Exile

The one thing that has always gotten me about mmo's isnt the population of the server.. There will always be population at end game..

But the newbie areas and leveling areas and grinding areas are always a ghost town in any mmo older then a year..

    Gaming community: IRONFIST
New World: Lilith - US East
WoW Guild: IRONFIST <Burning Legion> Alliance(We transferred to Illidan)
    WoW Guild: IRONFIST <Illidan> Horde
    SWOTR: IRONFIST <Satele Shan> Empire/Republic

And you'll want this because Lineage II is a pvp game...meaning you do not want to get ganked in newbie zones. You don't drop items but still...

Too bad we're looking at a game that's been dead since the beginning of time...

    Current mmorpg: Everquest 2
Current RPG: The Last Remnant (PC)
Current console games: Tekken 6 (PS3)
Current PC games: Super Street Fighter IV: AE2012

My first mmo also, I still think my first castle siege was the most epic mmo experience i've ever had. Still the best mass pvp concept i've seen in an mmo.

Man I spent countless hours on this game leveling, I think it took me like a whole year to get 60+ and that was playing pretty hardcore.

    Let the ganking commence!! lol...

NC Soft has made it alot easier than in the begining to advance in levels. The grind is still there, but you no longer have to spend months to get up where their are other players around. Following the newbie guides quest chain can for some class's get you through the new charecter area's in one hour or less with little to no adena (game currency) spent. There is adventure guides in evry town now that will give one hour buffs to charecters under lvl 76.

In short the merge will breathe life into the game once agian. I am currently a player of two accounts and have been playing since open beta back in 2004. I am looking forward to the new merges, but am aware that many of the people in game are upset. This I believe is due to the challege that will arise from castle owners having to retake the castles they once held with little to no opisition. In short there will be lively pvp action agian.

Why does NCSoft not get the point that L2 is dead in US/EU?

  • XenicalXenical Member Posts: 1

So instead of having two servers full of bots and cheats they are going to condense it down to one, well done NCSoft for nothing.

I hope they go out of business they have brought it on themselves, you cant contatct a Gm, you cant get help with cheats and botters the game was finished years ago, good riddence to it.

  • Panther2103Panther2103 Member EpicPosts: 5,779

I'm actually quite happy that they are merging them all into one. There were only really two active servers anyways for NA which was Bartz and Phoenix. I'm glad it's going to be one server since I have a 60+ on each server that I always wanted to play but because the servers were dead I had no real reason to play them. The forums had some talk about F2P as well, which honestly would make the game a hell of a lot better IMO but no point in trying to start that argument.

L2 really needs to go free to play. Put in a cash shop that removes the annoying grind and I think they would have a real winner.

Read: "For some reason, I convinced myself that NCsoft's shareholders care about a six-year old declining game, that's already had it's glory. Even though this game was one of the most played mmorpg's, and a huge success/moneycow, I'm sure stockholders think of NCsoft as incompetent, because they(the stockholders) are able to see through NCsoft's clever facade. I do not care about any new games NCsoft has released since then, and what new games they're planning on releasing. My postulate is completely true, and no one should ever dare say otherwise".

Uhhhh right. Way to wear your lack-of-knowledge on your sleeve! We all know WoW is the only MMO that isn't "dead," right guyz?!

  • WraithoneWraithone Member RarePosts: 3,806

The L2 players should be thankful that NCsoft isn't just pulling the plug, as they have on four games now.   But L2 is an Asian game, so we shall see what happens.  Its too bad that NCsoft is so clueless when it comes to the western markets.
