What makes Rift Different from Other MMOs?

endersshadowendersshadow Member Posts: 296

I thought this was a nice read.

Blur your eyes as you look at a new fantasy massively multiplayer game, and you won't know whether you're looking at World of Warcraft or not. But there are differences. There always are. Take Rift Planes of Telara, for example.

The people at Trion Worlds were showing their MMO, Rift, at Penny Arcade Expo last weekend. Sure, it's more graphically advanced than WoW, but those differences?

Two key things: Read the rest of the article at http://kotaku.com/5633829/what-makes-rift-different-from-the-other-mmos

Enjoy :)

Thanks for the link, although all this has been posted here before.

I did enjoy all the Wow fanbois comments underneath though lol :)

yeah, have seen this already, but I must say I am very impressed with the enthusiasm that Kotaku and TTH, amongst others, are showing for this game.

The fact that the people playing it seem to be so impressed is a great sign at alpha as to what this MMO could be. About time one delivered at launch :D

I'm hoping for really good looking graphics paired with the best and largest (with an expansion or two) online world yet to be made.

    Those are my hopes anyway.

All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

I think this game will do something similar to what WoW did with its predecessors (EQ for example), pick things and make them better, probably be like the evolution of WoW? Like GW2 and TERA, this also has some features that make it stand out more than the other MMOs.

Kotaku is a very negative board rather often. If it were possible to congeal E-hate, then render it down into a powder, then use that powder to make a form of E-hate Kool-Aid...

Well, you get the idea. >.>

lol no kidding, those comments were such ignorant idiot drivel I actually smiled. Why are comments boxes on these multi platform sites always full of such pure stupid?

Still, great to see the site itself positive about the game :D

i'm not a huge follower of this game although I have seen a lot of the videos posted on this site. Is it just me or do the actual "rifts" seem somewhat small? It always shows just one person when a rift opens, but in reality I can see about 30 people just waiting by it waiting for it to open. It just seems like it would be somewhat of a small area for a bunch of people to be there trying to kill mobs.

There are multiple rifts and they grow in size.   if left unattended, the entire landscape will become filled with them.

Yes and no. They also have a mechanism to register player activity in different zones, and they will be able to fine-tune the rift activity to the player activity to prefent zones to become completely overrun when no one is on-line.

It takes one to know one.
