This video someone created over at ffxivcore has a great explanation of the Fatigue/surplus system I suggest all people that don't quite understand it to check it out. Well even people that do understand it this is a great presentation.

It's a fantastic explination of how it works, and shows the benefits! (somehting which is lacking usually when people discuss the system)

This video was posted here no more than 2 days ago. The thread says like "must read" in the title.
But yeah, its a really good video. Makes the whole thing not seem so doom and gloomy.
Yup, pretty brilliant video. More people should see this so that the misinformation that is floating around can be stopped. The guy over at FFXIVCore put a lot of effort into making this really easy to understand.
Afterwards you kinda go, "huh, not that bad.."
Cheers!

"TO MICHAEL!"
Yes that is also an explanation, but I don't see this video anywhere on there. People tend to be more responsive to a video than a wall of text, plus it is very well done.
"TO MICHAEL!"
lol no thanks. if anything that monster of a thread should be replaced by a post with this video and thread locked.
More posts/pages a thread has the chance of it not being read in full goes down.
This system is only penalty a hardcore player so they can retain the subscription longer for more $. It not about the player enjoying content or helping the casual player out!
In WoW, you know the one with millions of casual players, help them out with this feature called rest experince. The longer you don't play the more bonus experince you get.
This feature penalties some casual players who would only play there 15hours a week on the weekend. In fact there other features that they didnt mention what limits the amount you can do per day. like the number of quest.
This fatigue system and other limits don't belong in an mmo. So what if a hardcore player beats your game in a week. You don't hear other forms of entertainment like books , and single player games adding a cap on number of chapters you can read or play per day.

Yes there is. Microtransactions for content, and stuff like 'episodes' for single player games. Expansions for MMO's, Tv episodes of a storyline obviously. Series of books, movies planned as trilogies or episodes.
Its no different, people act like they are being held off from something they had before when they never did. You never were able to get to those high levels faster or sooner. Might as well complain TV shows aren't releasing episodes, or writers aren't releasing books the second they are done and accuse them of milking their customers or holding them back. Could very well be true but its certainly not new.
The devs and fansites might be more subtle about it but i certainly don't have to. If you don't level up multiple classes and maybe even a crafter all at the same time and a even pace, your character will be shitty. If they removed the cap people would just bitch that now they only leveled up a gladiator with no other classes or crafting, can't adventure for shit and are constantly broke.
I think its this, more than it is other things. Hardcore players will BENEFIT from playing across the classes; imo more than rest XP helps the casual.
Rest XP actually doesn’t help casual players gain levels as much as people are making it out to, You'll either never play enough to make rested XP make sense, or you play a couple of hours a day and blast through rested XP, which would only work out at playing like 5-10% longer per day.
