Avid ffxi gamer trys the beta

I posted last week about my frustration about ffxiv.  I started out by saying that I had played ffxi for years and loved that game, and that I was feeling let down by SE for making this game so different.  I also said I wasn't gonna play after the beta.

Well, after whining to some of my ffxi friends they reminded me how hard ffxi was to get started in.

Frankly all I really remembered of ffxi was the endgame...the manaburn partys...the and LS and how we all had so much fun together...I only remembered the good things.

I tried the beta for a few days and couldn't seem to get into it and felt really frustrated. Then I posted here how I didn't think the game was for me...but lately I can't seem to NOT play.  I log off cuz I have housework to do and all I wanna do is log back in...lol.

FFXI was a nightmare to play when I first started.  It was made to run on a PS2.  The menus, the char movement, and the macros...yeah, the macros were soo hard to get used to.

But after the first few months and going thru the learning curve ffxi was one of the best games out there.

I sat down and thought about how I felt starting ffxi...luckily I had some r/l friends to help me...but I was still frustrated alot in the beginning. I thought about how hard it was to get used to the UI...and now I'm thinkin ffxiv is gonna be just fine once I get past the noob stage.

Sure, I wish they had left the controls the same.  I wish the macro bar was part of the UI and we could use alt/ctrl + hotkeys. Sure I wish they didn't have an attribute system...and sure I wish I could kill an orc...lol.

But this game will be fine...actually it'll be more then fine...it's gonna rock

    I had a similar experience.

Try to join some people or a linkshell, it makes it way more fun , just like it did on ffxi.I got few friends together playing and some people we meet in beta, and we do guild levels all day long.

We re actually trying to figure out on what server to start on , o boy i had my whole linkshell jump at me on facebook to tell them on what server we starting on. The feeling is great, the start of a brand new adventure, with some of my old friends.

I agree, Its gonna rock =D.

Yeah, pretty much.  I should probably stop feeding the trolls who so desperately want us to hate the game as much they do.   Maybe when they're big boys and girls they'll recognize that not every game appeals to every person.

Despite how much of a grind it was, Final Fantasy XI cruised along at 500k players for years, and while that may not seem like much compared to World of Warcraft's 12M+, you should note that the overwhelming majority of MMORPGS don't reach a million, even EverQuest and EverQuest 2 didn't have 500k players.  There's definately an audience for this sort of thing, it's a lucrative niche, and one Final Fantasy XIV should capture readily.

What's more, as we start seeing more signs of the kind of awesome stuff this development team can do, it's clear that Final Fantasy XIV will be a lot more than just a pretty face.  It's already considerably more deep and satisfying compared to a lot of the dumbed-down casual stuff, even as it attempts to appeal to casuals more via the fatigue system and limiting guildleve access (which, apparently, will be reduced below 48 hours according to the latest from the developers).

So, if you're a hater of the game, and desperately you want the game to fail, sorry, you cannot win this fight.  Basically, Final Fantasy XIV's success is more or less guarenteed. Partly because it's a Final Fantasy game, and there's hundreds of thousands of Final Fantasy fans worldwide who will happily buy and play the game.  Partly because it's really not that bad of a game.  You can tell us how awful the game is, how you can't seem to get it to run on your computer, fine.  However, to those of us who can enjoy it (and judging how pre-orders have only gone up since open beta began, there is quite a few of us) it seems the problem is on your end, no matter how much you claw at your keyboard to try to convince us otherwise.

Frankly, it's reached the point where I'm glad to be rid of the haters, much like FFXI it seems FFXIV has a minimum intelligence barrier of entry.  Yes, the interface isn't perfect, it would be better if it were less laggy, but apparently the developers have mentoned they're working on that (see the latest from the developers link above) so all that's left is your inability to adapt.  You may accuse me of being arrogant, that's fair enough, but so long as what I'm saying is true, you may be better served by turning your accusations inward.

I don't think they're trolls or any other derogatory name you wanna give em...

They're just frustrated.  That is what makes ff such a good game.  That's why you get such a good feeling of accomplishment when you finally get something done...cuz it's a bee-otch!!!

Remember the level break quests in ffxi?  I remember doing the happy dance when I finally beat maat...I stressed over that for awhile working up my nerve to try...I had to get a second testimony cuz I screwed up my first fight with him.  Remember how hard those were to get?  lol

So yeah...every game isn't for everybody...and thank gawd too huh...can you imagine how crowded the servers would be?  hah

I still wish they had left the UI alone...but hey...I'll get used to it ^^

I'd post more...but I gotta get back and ding another level, then I gotta start dinner...lol ^^
