Well I havn't played on online game in forever, and I heard FFXIV is coming out really soon. Do you guys think its worth it for me to try? I just want something to pass the time, and it does look cool. What does my fellow gaming community think of the game? worth it?

Word is there is a miracle patch that will fix all problems on release. Id say wait and see.
1. Make sure you have a system that can handle it (specs)
2. Beta is still on, try that (app)
I'm personally going to wait till the PS3 release.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Just to echo what the others have said, the game needs a good amount of juice to run effieciently so make sure you have it before diving in. Apply for the beta right now and you may get to see some of what you can expect.
meh

Me too.. sticking with VG till the PS3 version comes out. Lest they open an all catgirl RP server in which running away as fast as I can!
Try it now whilst it is free.
If you like it, buy it.
If you don't like it, try it again when they start the free trials around six months from now.
Now, granted, this may just be because I've never played any other FF games, but I must admit that this idea of monsters that spawn exclusively to each character, so that no-one else can hit them, and I can't hit anybody else's is totally mindboggling to me.
It's almost not an MMO this - it feels like a kind of extreme instancing. I'm categorically not in the business of kill-stealing etc, and I suppose it is to prevent that, that they have used this method, but to me it just feels like I'm in a single-player game.
Also, the interface just seems unnecessarily convoluted and weird. Once you learn how it works, it's still bad.
Beautiful scenery is about the only positive thing I can find about it. It's not even well translated, the English has clear traces of non-english translators.
Seriously!
Agreed. The copy-paste terrain, the laggy interface, combat not fully there, and other things indicate to me this is YET ANOTHER RUSHED MMO.
They should have taken another couple years so they could release a really awesome game.
A Quick Beta Impression of FFXIV.
Piss poor tutorial that leaves you hanging i like the "push the action button to change to attack stance" good thing you said what button the action button is. ( a quick search and you will find it but seriously telling me to push a button, a standard US keyboard has 104 buttons please be a lil more specific or just say the button at the bottom right of the screen or maybe high light it.) The configuration for the game like graphics and audio is not in the regular loader it resides in the FFXIV folder wherever you installed it to and the default language of it is Japanese so you have no idea wtf the buttons do that you are looking at until you find where to change the default language to. When i installed it the game it defaulted to windowed mode in 1156 x 524 or some such stupid resolution.
Most of my issues with the game are technical, i couldnt run it full screen it wouldnt initialize directx in full screen mode. Cant resize the window in windowed mode. Gameplay was a bit dry and slow overall was just not a game i could get into but since it is in beta give it a shot you may like it.
