Found a great step by step guide already posted by someone else here the same way I did it.
*** Brand New Install Instructions (Current 9-13-2010) ***
1. Download and install the FFXIV Beta Installer from Fileplanet, Official Source, MegaUpload, or Mediafire.
Open the patcher. It will ask for D2010.09.10.2001.patch and attempt to download. Verify that the following directory has been created.
C:Users"Your Name"DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloadsffxiv-beta
Note for XP it is C:Documents and Settings"Your Name"My DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloadsffxiv-beta
2. Use the following options to download the required patches. The Current list of patches for a brand new install are as follows:
D2010.09.10.2001.patch
H2010.08.30.2000.patch
D2010.09.12.2000.patch

Number of downloads: 476

D2010.09.12.2000.patch

3. Verify patcher is closed and then paste and overwrite D2010.09.10.2001.patch in the following location.
C:Users"Your Name"DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloadsffxiv-betaca2a8aepatchD2010.09.10.2001.patch
Re-open the patcher and let it install. You will then see a new boot version.
4. Let the patcher look for H2010.08.30.2000.patch and then cancel the update again.
Place the remaining 2 patches into the following directories on your computer. (Overwrite the original .patch that the patcher program created.) May differ slightly based on the OS you are using. This is for Windows 7.

5. Open the FFXIV Beta Launcher. It will scan and install the patches assuming you placed the .patch files in the proper directories. If you see this you are doing well! This takes about 30 minutes depending on hard drive speed.
6. When you are finished, log in and play!
Any questions let me know, I followed these exactly and it worked perfectly, less then 30 minutes to get it up and running.

Kindly note the sticky on the top of the page that says redundant threads on issues that are already stickied will be locked. Also note the sticky that talks about downkloading/patching. It includes the link to the FFXIV core site you just copied and pasted here.
