Final Fantasy XIV

NicroxNicrox Member Posts: 140

Hello

I've been playing mmo's for a long time and I've wanted too try out the Final Fantasy but I always thought it was a game not a mmo. I don't know much about the game I've read that some consider it to be like EQ2 or maybe vanguard.  In most mmo's I work on crafting and pve with some on pvp. What features does Final Fantasy and what is the population on the servers like.

In EQ2 theres alot of rares or collections such as players mounts and player homes/apartments maybe a rare weapon or two. Its difficult to really find any collective info that isn't scattered around so any info you have is welcomed then I can decide if i want to try Final Fantasy.

The game is still in open beta

    Early access is 9/22

    Release 9/30

    PS3 March 2011

    --

Crafting is very much like EQ2.

There might be some sort of "Diplomacy" function like Vanguard. (called Parley) Not sure how it works as it isnt in.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

You can be a straight crafter if you want, it's not hard. you still get physical level with crafting, which is pretty dang awesome if you ask me. :D And crafting and gathering are really fun.

Thats what I'm trying too decide before I buy the game or not. Some consider me a hardcore crafter more so when I played SWG. I'm trying too figure if I can set up shop and own a player home and how much fun there will be and things too work on or do.

The recent interview seems to make me think there might be a bit more to crafting that sitting in town watching that dog gamn orb glow...

More and more this game is reminding me of Vanguard. They will have Parley (sounds like diplomacy) and they will have things where crafters will be needed for what I'd guess are battle leves?

heck with the rate equipment degrades you could set up shop at camps and probably get rich just repairing gear.

it might not be for you....... reminds me of my old job, we used to sit around our machines while they ran (we made diesel engine parts) me, mark, and my nigerian friend D.D.   3 guys.... only guys in that section of the shop.  We used to argue about everything from sports, to sony or toshiba?? etc etc..... it was the T.V. argument that i heard the wisest statement ever..

D.D. liked sony, he was DETERMINED to by sony cause you'er buying the BEST...... Mark said you're paying for a name... they argued from 7:30 a.m. till around 1:30p.m.  D. ended the entire arguement with this....

"One man's food is another man's poison".... pure win.... enough said... game over...

So if FFXIV isn't for you, thats cool. hope you find something to play, or pass your time, if it is... well thats cool too all around, its all good in da hood.

Do some reading and research about FFXI. while 14 is not the same game as 11 they will be similar in certain respects.

If nothing else you will get a feel for its predecesor.

I don't know where to begin with responding to the OP here.  He's got such a weak grasp on what Final Fantasy XI and XIV are that he's trying to use EverQuest and Vanguard as descriptive words for it, and that's problematic because I can only pick out a few correlations out of those words that work, and they're rather vague ones.

No, it's really like nothing else you've ever played.  It's better to just say it has a very different, console-friendly interface.  Great graphics - Final Fantasy games have always pushed the envelope here.  The balance is probably considerably tougher than what you're used to, you'll find grouping quickly become mandatory in XI, less so in XIV.

Words alone won't be enough to provide what you need to know about the game.  My advice is to go play Final Fantasy XI and see if you like it for yourself.  You can pick it up for $9.99 off Steam.

Thats true I really don't know alot about it. I guess I'm wondering what kind of crafting system FF has and if theres player homes and player mounts in the game. And what kind of population the servers might have since everyone seems to be happier with FF XI.  If I were too buy FF XI could I merge FF XIV into it or are they two seperate mmo's.

check the topic i just made, and also go to ffxivcore.com this will answer a lot of your questions. MMORPG.com is a war zone, what you will get here, is biased half assed attempts at trolling, probably called retarded sometime in your forum life, and a whole lot of lulling.... you will not get anything credible in this shit hole.

Ah, now this I can answer:

    • There are fully featured and very game-centric player homes in Final Fantasy XI.   There's even potted plants you can raise.

    • No player homes in XIV (yet?) although you do get a retainer which you can call and will act as storage and a shop for you.

    • Final Fantasy XI's population has been much steadier than most MMORPGs.  It's hard to say exactly what is right now.  Also, we really can't tell the future with XIV.

    • Not everyone is happier with Final Fantasy XI.  Comparing it to XIV, there's many pros and cons to going with either.  Perhaps the largest cons for XI is that it's a 7-year-old game and not very casual friendly.

    • XI and XIV are very unlikely to merge because they use radically different game mechanics.  It's sort of a Final Fantasy tradition, even outside the two MMORPGs, that the games will have many fundamental differences.

That sounds cool not alot of info on FF and I went too the main site but couldn't find the FF forums. Along with the house or storage I'd like too see if we get a shop or vendor. And I'm looking forward to either being a chef or smith.

    • Final Fantasy XI is one of those games where they decided having official forums was more trouble than it was worth.  Aside from the nice forums we have here on MMORPG.com, you may want to try Dreams of Vanadiel as the closest thing to an official forum for the game.

    • Both Final Fantasy XI and XIV have the ability for you to sell items by placing them in special "Bazaar" slots of oyour inventory that players can buy off you.

    • Final Fantasy XI has an auction house where you can do buying and selling from.

    • Final Fantasy XIV has a marketplace where players can leave their retainers to sell stuff and go to buy stuff from other players' retainers.  It's a bit awkward in its current implementaiton, the developers have mentioned they don't want to do another auction house (it's not as immersive as they'd like) but are aware of ther issue and seeking an alternate solution.

    • Both chefs and smiths exist in both games.  However, in Final Fantasy XI it's more of a crafting system for your main adventurer, while in Final Fantasy XIV there are actual player classes dedicated to that.

Note that there are two release dates (even more if you count the PS3 version comign out in March 2010).

    • The collector's edition which you have linked here, comes out 9/22/10.

    • The standard edition which you can see here, comes out 9/30/10.

The reason for the day is that players are given an 8 day head start as part of the bonuses of the collector's edition.
