The Thesis at this point, is Musketeer's alternate weapon. Thats right sir, the gunblade.
Quote from Square Enix::
The weapons and armor of Garlemald are the true testament to the Empire's technologies. The centurions of their standing armies are bedecked in imposing armor fashioned from lightweight metal alloys, beneath which are worn near indestructible battle garb woven of strong, synthetic fibers. Their weapon of choice is the gunblade, an ingenious integration of sword and firearm into a single instrument of killing, equally capable of dispatching enemies at close-quarters and at range. The centurions are complete warriors, and in addition to their unmatched prowess and ruthlessness as assault troops, they also boast stalwart defenses, at times exhibiting almost complete imperviousness to fire- and ice-based attacks, as well as firearms.

I seen a real weapon that looked somewhat similar, not really a huge hit in the real world however.
Still, it is a pretty interesting weapon, even if it is worse than a regular gun or sword. Would be interesting to see a vid of it being used.
Sounds to me what's actually being described here is an Empire (PvE bad guys) mob type.
Yah...sounds like a enemy to me, not a player class right?
there where a lot of mobs in FFXI that where enemies that used our classes as well.
I'm new to FF. In OB all I've been fighting are different types of beasts. But there is constant talk of war with the empire. Are these the enemies we will be facing if war breaks out?
Here's my Hypothesis based on the cinematic
The Empire you speak of is a technological mecha, kinda like FF6.... basically a kingdom that has advanced in the ways of science and technology faster then the rest of the city states...
You have 3 City states, Gridania, Ul-Dah, and Limnsa Lominsa these three have had open war in the past amongst each other but have established a kinda "don't mess with me and i won't mess with you attitude"....
The 4th kingdom is a group of knights swore to fight the dragons of old, unfortunately not much is known about them, accept that there city is probably our new Jeuno.
NOW
The empire is responsible for those fancy airships you've seen, including that big one, which from the looks of it, was harboring the gods a.k.a. Summons. Titan, Ifrit are seen escaping it upon its collision with the ground. The Empire, for some reason or another had these, and that big ass dragon you saw did not like this, ...... That i believe is your main story arc
Theory 1 is. kingdom number 4 is fighting the empire using dragons to free the gods..
Theory 2 The empire and kingdom number for are trying to subdue the pirmordial forces of the past gods, dragons etc to make even more powerful weapons to blow the shit out of each other with
SO
where do our kingdoms come in? all 3 city states have been keeping an eye on the empire as its military forces are growing and there is threat of open war against the empire as they are feeling the push of the empire into there territories.
all in all to answer your question, yes... they are the bad guys, yes there will be a war, and yes... you will probably get raped a number of times before you see the end of it.
That little point on the top of the blade means that you'd never actually be able to fire the weapon, as the bullet would hit the blade...
only a few times before that little point became chiped and eventually broke off...... i noticed that too. however a red hot piece of led might be split in two.... but you still wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it.
Not if there's a body stuck there.
Ah, the ghastly realities of a gunblade.
lol. Man, I love it when people pay attention to the little details, and make those designers think "d'oh".
In fairness though, it could be the blade is a little left or right of centre though, right?
Is this weapon planned for an expansion or possibly a version update upon release? Or do you guys still believe that they are an enemy NPC?
(disclaimer: this is not my image, another user on these forums has provided in another thread)
I do see musketeer on this list, and if this is in fact accurate as pulled, then I would assume this to be an actual class and not just an enemy. When it will be availble to play, that I dont know.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
Nice find. I am sure if it is a weapon type that is in game regardless of bad guy or good guy it will be usable eventually. Remember SE is big on having an enemy and then later uncovering it isn't the true enemy.
Dunno, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Unarmed isn't a possibility, but it's on that chart.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I kind of feel like Unarmed would be the same as hand-to-hand without the weapons.
Oh and seriously..the herding will be interesting...
There are lost sheep in LL...Got to herd them back to town before people nix them for their wool.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Plus all the blood and crap you'd get in the barrel from stabbing people would screw up the bullet trajectory anyway.
That list isn't official, noone knows where it comes from it was apparently "leeked". Bottom line is, don't get your hopes up, just take it as a grain of salt.
Some classes like the Lancer have access to secondary weapons, in the lancers case obviously the javelin, and marauders get throwing axes, glad's throwing knives etc.
Perhaps if and when the musketeer class is released, gunblades will be their secondary for up close melee, who knows.
That particulary screeny could be refering to mobs from the garlean empire for now.
During an interview at one of the recent game conventions, one of the developers mentioned that they were planning to introduce more classes. That right now they wanted to make sure that they had all the necessary crafting classes in place first since that is the basis of the economy. He didn't mention specific classes though. The important point though, is that there will definitly be more classes.
This list appears to be a rough draft outline of all the possible classes. It would seem that the idea of being an unarmed adventurer got canned. The musketeer guild and the arcanist guilds are on the Limsa map so I would suspect these will be the first new classes to be added in later. As for the others, I would bet that we will see some and not others. We simply don't know how old and how official this list was, or if it ever was. It looks reasonable but even if it is legitimate, they could change their minds later.
All die, so die well.
Good point, that. If that chart is at all legit from reverse engineering the client as it suggests it is, I'm guessing Unarmed is used during chargen before you equip a weapon or tool. The main reason why Unarmed isn't possible is because having something in your main hand is pivotal to class identification in this game.
