I wouldn't say which one because I am afread some of the trolls here really are crazy enough to buy the game, make a char, and follow me to the server just to spam the same thing they have been on the forums. I mean how will they get their kick when all the fans are playing the game and they have no one to swing their epeen at?
Also why do you have all of them grouped in one, and then a bunch of others as singles?

I seen a lot of guilds saying Figaro, so that'd be my last choice. I don't like overly busy servers =/

I know in many games there are "unofficial" servers for different populations. Heard any rumors of people self organizing for that?

Just a heads up we have:
Besaid - Unofficial RP Server
Lindblum - Unofficial EU Server (1 of ?) Also 4Chan
Rabanastre - Unofficial JP server + Large French Pop + Large amount of Americans. This is the FFXII city which is one of the most popular FF's since VII-VIII so it will likely be a popular choice across the board.
Mysidia - Most popular NA server largely American will probably have the longest prime time Queues in NA.
Haven't seen much info other than those. I am sure many communities are planning on a certain server, but not sure of those.

Mysidia, Cornelia, Figaro, Selbina- were designated the unofficial JP servers by the popular board 2chan. (in my experience in Open beta however Mysidia and Figaro had the highest ratio of JP players).
Cornelia- Was designated as the unofficial EU server by various fansites.
Istory- Unofficial Taiwanese server
Figaro- Unofficial Hong Kong Server
Roleplay- Besaid
Trabia-Eorzopedia server
Selbina- Unofficial XI veteran server
There are no official NA servers that I have seen even attempt to be mentioned, because frankly there are NA people on every server in large numbers. With the largest numbers obviously being on the most populous servers: Mysidia, Figaro, Lindblaum, Selbina, Cornelia. Besaid. This also has to do with all of these being among the first beta servers launched (except Selbina, but lots of people quit their server and restarted here when it was announced). At launch it is anyone's guess though these look to also have a leg up as being the most popular servers when release comes around too.
All of these are extremely unofficial as in less than fifty people in most of these voted to designate them "unofficial" on a variety of fansites which the community is split between (giving rise to a variety of different "unofficial tags). Various linkshells from XI, and guilds from other games, including ones formed for this game have chosen just about every server in the list. Most people don't care about the "designations", and so following their advice to try and find a certain population is pretty unadvised.
Except in the case of Selbina, as the name itself gives it it's credence.
In short even for unofficial servers most of these are pretty dubious and should really be entirely ignored except for in the case of like the RP server and some less represented languages where they do have a chance of drawing those small close-knit communities. All servers will have a big Japanese/NA/EU presence there is no debating this. It seems that segregation, even self-segregation, is practically impossible.

I wanted to be on a FF6/3 server.. namely Figaro on that list, though they opened Narsh as a test server for CE items and Narsh would be awesome. Unfortunately the beta community on Figaro isn't that great, very foreign, very solitary / unhelpful and if it's going to be the unofficial Hong Kong server.. I guess I'd have to go with Besaid.

I don't think they'll be ignored. It only takes a pebble to start and avalaunche, and it only takes 50 people to come to a decision about something that 200,000 people are undecided about. If you can punch "Unofficial FFXIV roleplay server" into google and it come up with that answer, that's what most people are going to go with. I know that's how I found out it was Besaid.

Roleplay server is different. The rest are pretty much absurd, there are also not 200,000 people per server...
Most people will choose based on two criteria, population when they log in and server name (unless they have made plans before). Then again most people aren't roleplayers, forum goers, or xenephobic to begin with.

i am pretty sure FIgaro is not the "Hong Kong" server, they have one HK LS though
from what i know, Trabia is the HK server, Istory is the Taiwan
Not sure how many Hong Kong people are in the beta, but I did notice quite a few on Figaro and have never seen mention on any fansite of Trabia as a HK server. This just proves my point however, there are multiple "unofficial" servers for nearly every criteria (with the exception of Role Play server=Besaid) so they are largely useless for guidance.

i haven't given it much thought, other than i have a couple friends who are going to play and i wanna be on the server with them...if that becomes an impossibility i'll maybe go for an RP server for a change of pace.
Played:FFXI, WoW, LOTR,EQ. Playing:FFXIV.
Looking Forward To:DCU, SWTOR.

I was going to play on Mysidia but there seems to be a huge number of japanese players and I'm not sure how well that will work, communication wise. Besides that, it seems to be one of the most popular servers and I don't feel like fighting over mobs.

If you go to eorzeapedia.com or ffxivcore.com forums, they have forums for each server.
Besides that, some of us have played the game and since SE is offering name reservations, it's pretty safe to say that most people will stick with the same servers they have played on in beta.
Palamecia, im testing on it.. so i think ill stick with it.. Im starting to get pumped.
If you go to other forums, they do have lists of "unofficial servers" that people basically just made up, trying to get people to come to a certain server. I am in the US and I will be going to Figaro, because way long ago someone said it was going to be the "unofficial NA server". I am not going to keep changing my server because someone some where says, well we think it is the "unofficial JP server".
If you are unsure just join Figaro and help it become the NA server.
I lol'd. There will be tens if not hundreds of thousands of NA and JP players of playing at launch. There will be no "NA server".

I can't decide between Mysidia and Selbina.
Besaid is gonna be great even if you don't plan to roleplay. From my experience in wow and lotro, dedicated roleplaying servers generally have a more mature community.
And if you have an allergy to roleplayers, well, just stay away, at least you know where not to go
