Fun but not an MMORPG.

I was shocked when I first logged in. I said to myself " Could this possibly be the first quality free to play game". To be honest I would without questions buy cash shop items if this actually was an mmo. Ive never purchased cash shop items in any other game.

This game is your standard japanese sword game with a lobby that has people walking around in it. Dungeons are hosted on the party leaders PC. I attempted to join 5 or 6  Four player groups to run an instance. It was a complete slideshow every time. Solo however the game ran flawlessly even in town.

I really hope the additions that come in later beta are major. The combat is absolutely fantastic and the ability to interact with world items is incredible. The same goes for the UI and graphics.

However that does not change the fact that it is nothing more than a console game with a cooperative play option.

The worst part about it is, if somebody is hosting it and they have a crappy connection you lag like crazy, regardless of how good your connection and computer are. The whole team sufers.

I was excited about this game until I got out of the intro and began to realize what kind of a game this really was.

Now I just play it with my gamepad, so I can get some use out of that thing. I actually bought it for FF14, but now I am not sure I will even go pick it up. May let gamestop just keep that 10 dollars.

Vindictus turns out to be a good game to play with a gamepad. The combat style just fits it perfectly.  Though, the MMO in this game is seriously lacking, I wouldn't pay for it.>>   I may continue to play it for free while I kill time though.

Not that I liked the original guildwars, but I must say It seemed more MMOish than vindictus. Even though, tbh, GW1 was not a true MMO. Not what I would consider as one. I prefer open persistant world filled with players to journey about in.

Only thing this game does better than GW1 when it comes to these types of games, is the combat and graphics are pretty good.

Its fun but its not an mmorpg...and when most people realize that they will quit it and cry, people here at mmorpg.com are usualy looking for mmorpgs..not single player games with online multiplayer party mode.

yep as it is a Peer to peer game, keep in mind it is still "beta" so they have some things to work out/streamline

(yes I do now it has been out in Korea for over a year as Mabinogi heroes)

Good news is You DON'T have to pay for it as it will be a Free to Play with a cash shop!

is it an MMO depends on your personal idea of MMO, is it fun? to me it is even with all the Beta problems it is having right now!

if you had done any type of research on this game, you would have known what type of game it is, as that has been rehashed time and time again.  That being said, I hope you have fun with the type of game it is , I know I am! =)

No, I didn't do that kind of research , or not enough.  I went to the site watched some videos, and figured I would just check out the beta.  This game was getting raving reviews, so I assumed that it had a lil more depth to it. But I guess that is what you get when you assume without any hard facts.

  • It is not a mmorpg more of a action adventure game. And geared for 12 yr. olds imo .

It's getting rave reviews for being straight up fun,  regardless of it's classification or depth.

Besause only 12 year olds can appreciate a fast paced arcade style blood fest with a great entertainment factor as well as 12 year olds are the only ones capable of appreciating a great value for entertainment.

Agreed ( I am over 40) I am glad to be able to live as i am 12 from time to time.  LOL

yeah it is ALWAYS 12 yr olds isn't it? damn 12 year olds are everywhere!

seriously folks lets stop with the whole 12 year old crap , or at least spice it up and say nine and three quarters, or mabe a really young fourteen and seven eighths!

and Sungodra yeah I guess I just took the time myself to do research (I always do) no harm no foul.

all it really comes down to is if you are having fun in the game, seems most at this site have forgotten the whole games are for fun deal anymore :(

been ages since i had a fun mmo to play. vindictus fills this need nicley. yea sure its not a big open world or a ton of people chating. but hey this means 0 spammers very low chance of cheaters and well i had parties with alot of people last night n we chated and had alot of fun. (till ofc i got dissconnected after killing a boss who can 1 hit KO ya..lol) the way i see it. the games fresh/new and alot of fun. thats all it needs to be for me to enjoy it :-)

Not what I expected at all. I thought it was going to be an open world. However this game shines if you like one of those mindless hack and slash dungeon games. Beautiful graphics and the battle mechanics and physics are awesome. The game reminds me allot of the single player game Blade of Darkness. Its definitly one of those games to try if you are wanting to take a short break from your faviorite MMO grind and just want a non stop hack and slash moment.

I applaud Vindictus for doing something different. Allowing almost unrestricted control over your environment is something that has never been done before. Well done, Nexon! Now, onto the problem on everyone's mind. Is it an MMORPG?

Well, as for an "RPG", I'd have to say "No," in the traditional sense of a RPG.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone here about this being more of an action game than a role-playing game.

That is to say, I also agree that "MMO" doesn't apply here either.

If I was to categorize this game I'd call it a MAG. Multiplayer Action Game.

Having an "Interactive Lobby" doesn't make it a MMO. Having shards hosted on an individual's computer definitely doesn't make it a MMO.

The first "M" In MMORPG stands for "Massive", and this just doesn't feel "Massive" at all.

    -HOWEVER-

I feel people are entitled to call the game whatever they wish. Sometimes its easier just to call it a MMORPG even if it isn't (Or is) than try and classify it. As far as opinions go? Well, no use arguing with people over who's right and who's wrong, because honestly this is a debate that will go on for centuries and it just makes no sense to argue over it.

Agree to disagree is the best option here.

In conclusion: I come to MMORPG for that. Massively Online Role Playing Games; as do many other people so I can understand why people would be nit-picky about a game if it has 0 role-playing in it (In the traditional sense of role-playing that is)

Mindless is a good word for it. Personally, this bored me to tears, and I feel it's more relatable to a console title with some slight persistance. Sure, it's a multiplayer online game. It's certainly not massive, though.
