Another "can I play this??"

I did not play the beta and I was wondering if I am out of luck playing this game or not? I know this has been asked and I am sorry for asking it YET (assuimg others have asked the same question) again but please bear with me. I am super excited about this game and have been looking forward ot it for a long time and would be sad if it ran link crap on my computer.....so here are my system specs:

Win Vista 64, E8400 dual core 3.0ghz CPU, 8GB XMS2 DDR2 system ram, EVGA Akimbo Nvidia 8800GT 1GB DDR3 video ram.

Thanks for helping me out.

I believe it will run baseline, would not expect many bells and whistles though. Maybe 2x AA and 8x anistropic, turn off Depth and Occlusion. Medium textures? Try switching between some high some medium to tweak. Otherwise probably not too painful.

The 8GB of RAM will compensate somewhat.

Can you get Windows 7 on it? Might be happier.

Agree with above post, and 110% with the Vista part! Anyone still using Vista should be shot (j/k no offence meant)

Would stick to anything 1440x900 or below with the card you have.

Core i5 13600KF,  BeQuiet Pure Loop FX 360, 32gb DDR5-6000 XPG, WD SN850 NVMe ,PNY 3090 XLR8, Asus Prime Z790-A, Lian-Li O11 PCMR case (limited ed 1045/2000), 32" LG Ultragear 4k Monitor, Logitech G560 LightSync Sound, Razer Deathadder V2 and Razer Blackwidow V3 Keyboard

I was shooting for at least medium settings and I will have to wait and see. I was praying it would not be a resource hog of a game and that the average computer would be able to play it and have it look good. Maybe it's time for a video card upgrade.

Whats wrong with vista? My Task maneger show my CPU at 2-8% at idle and tons of free ram. Anyways I do have a 24" monitor widescreen and I like to play my games at 1900 x 1200 ....

If you like 1920x1200 res you will need to compromise an awful lot by lowering graphics drastically. Take a look here I would seriously recommend that if you want to play recent stuff with half decent graphics, aim for 1500, your current card is quite a way off.

Vista was a failed OS, google about it anywhere, and windows7 is what is should have been. It uses hardware on a totaly different level to anything before.

When you do move up to Win7 you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

Humm not buying the Vista argument since all my games run just fine (Lord of the rings online DX10, Crysis DX10, X3 Terran Conflict, The settlers 7, Age of Conan, Starcraft 2, and so on.... While Windows 7 might run faster I do not see any problems with my Systems OS.  Anyways Thanks for the advice.

Back to the hardware..... I am amazed at how well my video card has kept up with games and I will have to wait and see. Thanks everyone for the advice.

They should just make the official benchmark thread a sticky.  It takes all the guesswork out of whether or not you can run the game.  Judging by how it has much the same directory structure as the beta, it literally is the client used to play the game (albeit a considerably earlier version of that client).

When your high and low settings on the benchmark are about the same, your cpu is holding you back.  If they are different then your video card is holding you back.

The best a duel core can pull in benchmarks is around 2100 max with the best video card, that is on high and low settings.

In game thats 10-12 FPS when its crowded, a little higher around 16-20 when your alone.  If you upgraded to a quad core you would probably get 3-4 times the FPS in game...and pull 3000 high and 5000 low on the benchmark.

  • geldonyetichgeldonyetich Member Posts: 1,340

Personally, I've a Q6600 quad core and a GeForce 250 GTS and pull about 2600 Low / 2200 High on the official benchmark.  I've seen people who have dual core systems and better video cards claiming they've pulled higher scores on that thread.  So I'm inclined to believe that the game offloads more onto the video cards than common conception holds.

The game does not seem to harness SLI very well.  Or is that because NVIDIA's drivers do not handle FFXIV in SLI very well yet?  Tough to say.

Thanks for the link....doing a benchmark!

Don't take it wrong. :) I was a strong proponent throughout Vista's lifetime. 7 of course has many opimizations, especially for gaming performance. If you are having a good experience in Vista you will notice an increase with 7 on the same box. I understand there is cost to consider and if it ain't broke... Just a suggestion to improve performance with Final Fantasy XIV.

Ok so on the benchmark I got .....

    Low: 1280 x 720

    Score: 2817

    Load Time: 57819MS

    High: 1920 x 1080

    Score: 1635

    Load Time: 13359MS

So it looks like I will e able to play the game just fine :) I didnt notice any stutter or video lag in the low and it looked great! I did notice a few small slow downs but nothing to worry about and it looked great! I plan to run it at 1600 x 1200 and with medium textures 4x AA 4AF I should still get mid 2500 score and that makes me happy!

    Sweet for me!

Better score than me on "low," and I'm pretty content with the game, so I think you'll do fine on "standard" settings.

Actually the 2100 max at dual core is not exactly true.

I use a dual core system and I have on the low setting: 3138 actually

On the other hand in high resolution I have: 2064

Anyway the last thing can be connected to my GTX 260 or the fact that I have not really a monitor right now that supports the high resolution anyway.
