Besaid is gonna be great even if you don't plan to roleplay. From my experience in wow and lotro, dedicated roleplaying servers generally have a more mature community.
And if you have an allergy to roleplayers, well, just stay away, at least you know where not to go
Uhm would it not better to not go to the server in the first place if you are allergic to roleplayers?
For some odd reason people always think we roleplayers are nice people but the main difference is normally that we are able to curse in whole sentences. :P
I've been playing on Cornelia but noone seems to speak English.
I'm sure the game will flop and they'll all be merged to one anyways within two months.
And that's why you are on these forums trolling like anyone cares... right... I'd love to see your MMO doctorate.
You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.
anyway i am playing in Lindblum, Lindblum is ok but i think i am gonna change(maybe Figaro)
most of the english speaker were european, not that i mind .
i am not a RPer, but so far players in Besaid seem to be quite friendly
I got more good groups in Selbina in 5 days than I did in two weeks on Figaro. The XI effect I guess, but I really liked that community was able to find an upgraded Pugilist weapon there without much hassle too which was just awesome.

Same for Besaid. You know how roleplaying adventurers love telling their tales and dragging people with them...
Oh wait, that was me.

What?! You don't want to hang on my every breath as I regale you with tales of my courageous deeds?! I'm insulted! I'm going to go blog about this... THIS VERY INSTANCE.
Prepare yourself you fiend!
[sorry couldn't help myself, sometimes it's fun to role-play as a role-player that you would never be. You know?]

I play mostly with Oceanic players these days and am encouraging them all to roll on Selbina instead. Really with worldwide servers the need for an unofficial oceanic server is cut down quite a bit. I play during those times and would go to the oceanic server if it weren't a Square Enix MMO but I know from experience that I won't have any difficulty at anytime of the day as long as the server I am on itself is a healthy one.
I'll be on Besaid. Whether or not I decide to actually join in on the roleplay, I find that roleplayers add an ambiance to the gameworld that can be quite delightful at times.
Selbina seemed to be the place to go for groups. I saw more groups there in beta than I did on any other server I played on. Seemed everyone was either in a group, or looking to join one (from duo's up to large parties for behests).
Not suprised at that because of the name, that's certainly why I am starting there.
I am personally not buying into the unoficial server lists. Forum dwellers like us are but a fraction of the population that will be playing this game. If SE made it official and listed it on the game server list then it would work. I have seen different sources list the same server as something completly different.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI

I agree completly, which is why I am going to Selbina.
Unlike those other servers the name (the famous/infamous first grouping location in XI) here gives this server all the advertising it needs for the type of people I hope to play with (XI vets, and fans of grouping in general).
def going Selbina. The name alone brings back memories of that special zone where most of us FFXI vets would first party up and prepare for our first multiple wipes and the non-stop camping of the Emperor :P
Hated the damn ghouls.
Loved the "secret beach" lol
Anyway...spent part of OB on Besaid, and no offence at all to those who do, but I grew weary of all the RP chat.
Again...no offense.
To each his own. Can't wait to meet some ol vets of the XI and make some new memories!

Is the RP chat really that bad? I'm kind of weary going in now, this is the server my LS picked and I'm going to be a tad upset if there is a lot of that. Hahaha.

lol, it's all preference.
I'm sure once the game goes live, RP will probably be in people's LS channels and such. Again, I did not mean any insult by my previous comments. It's just my preference ^_^

I personally find a great deal of Lalafell (and Miqote really) roleplaying to be on occassion considerably more annoying than the role playing in many MMO's with their toddler speak (and meow'ing), which I don't understand since the NPCs all speak rather normally. I don't mind the constant smiley faces, and /panic emotes so much, but then again that isn't really extensive RP'ing relegated to just the unofficial RP server.
While it is true that most people RP only in appropriate settings (like their linkshell or at role playing events with other people who are into it), I like to party and that often means with people outside of my usual circle, and there are plenty of role players who are very strict about not breaking their character ever even in parties with people who aren't participating.
Whether that means they simply won't join a non RP party, or they will add 10 lines of chat to every macro'd action I feel that it personally takes away from my ability to group up and have a good time. That was merely my experience at least playing with role players in XI.

Looks like Gysahl will be the unofficial Oceanic server

I think Besaid, Lindblum, and Figaro are going to be high population servers.
I'm going Cornelia I guess...Most likely will probably join the one with 1 or 2 chocobos =P
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
