Face of Mankind is a first and third person Massively Multiplayer Online Action Role Playing Game set in a futuristic persistent world. The game was played from a variety of points of view. It was designed to emphasize role play and community, using a faction system and player-driven politics.
Players interact with each other in a freeform universe, consisting in a series of locations spread across various planets. Major roleplaying-based storylines, purely optional, are started and run by Duplex staff. Players in a position of power may also affect game play by setting a faction's agenda, creating long-term political, economic, or military goals, which are broken up into missions handed down through a faction's hierarchy in the form of player generated and driven missions.
Eight factions make up the fabric of the society. Each faction can bring a different atmosphere to the game whether by war, control of a colony and its mines or undermining prices on the market.
Factions are led by a leader who is elected by their members and who uses their abilities to take colonies, make deals with other factions to help control the market or hire out as mercenaries. Individual players are citizens of the Dominion, banded together in their factions they become a force to fear.
By the end of the 22nd century, the overcrowding of Earths cities, the growing drain on natural resources, and the memories of recent violence caused mankind to desire new and remote locations to start their lives over again. The International Space Administrations colonization efforts provided the perfect solution – distant havens for hundreds of thousands of Earths citizens to take up residence. The BoI serves an instrumental part in the preparation of the young and ambitious entrepreneur for the life of working, surviving and prospering in the new industrial reality of remote civilized space under the Dominion. It is the port of destination for every new trainee in the Guild's organization and the launching pad onto opportunity and successful future within the organization's structure. Its dedicated trainers attentively initiate personnel onto the Guild, providing them with the wisdom, tools, guidance, basics and nourishing ground from which they may sprout and venture onto becoming the very Dominion pioneers as those of past, such as John Fitzgerald, whose reputation and accomplishments made the Guild so renowned and successful.
The heart of the Guild, the Labor Union contains the hard-working, highly-paid, men and women who commit their time to maintain business relationships, develop markets and manufacture goods. Charged with authority over the inner Guild's own logistics and the external supply chains for other parties within the Dominion, the Labor Union diligently strives to meet the ever-growing demand for goods and provides an unparalleled service throughout the known universe. The SoB (hold your laughter, pun-intended) is the administration branch of the Guild. Composed of the Guild's Director and his advisory committee of Secretaries, they are those who set the goals to be achieved and the mandates by which the entire organization follows. The advisory committee is tasked with maintaining diplomatic relationships and coordination with all of the different entities within the Dominion, drafting battle plans, overseeing the fulfillment of the departments' tasks and enforcing penalties on those who defy the mandate or breach the Guild's security. Whilst the Director has a final say and overruling voice, most of the daily-operation decisions are made by his Secretaries and in particular during his absence from office due to special circumstances; this being said, the Director will often involve himself in matters of great importance and will weigh in his committee's advice prior to announcing final verdict.
Those who view themselves as visionaries, seek to guide large scale events and assume responsibility and placing others' benefit and favor in front of their own are at times elected to preside in this office.
As is justly within their right, due to the emergence of the warmongering and ever-so greedy & violent corporations, the C.M.G. has decided there is a necessity to have its own military sub-organization within the Guild to protect what they've earned, the colonies they control and the assets they have long and hard labored to develop.
This is the protective shield of the organization. These extensively-trained, jagged and fearless individuals are in service of the highest of calling - sacrificing their own safety for the sake of establishing the continued success and survival of the organization and that of their guild mates.
Whether in training during peace time or in fighting during strident times of strife, they will give it their all and equally strike confidence in the hearts of their guild mates as they shall cause horror in those of their foes.
