OK... I didn't realize people thought so diffrently. Your posts have changed my mind. I did know they keep bringing in new content, but I just didn't think they need 15 bucks a month from 1.5 million subscribers. Oh, and I don't come from a poor family. I'm a 14 year old kid who lives in the suburbs and I live in a pretty wealthy community.

Your parents did not get the money to give you food and shelter by giving services for free.
People who work at Blizzard have children to support also.
I would suggest you take a course in basic economics when you can.
It's understandable they need a monthly fee to maintain the servers and have the necessary staff to provide support and development on a continous basis. Whether we agree it should be 15/month or not. The issue I have with fee based games isn't the subscription rate, it's the fact they charge the same price for the game up front as a stand-alone game, 50 bucks, and the monthly fee. MMOs in my opinion should cost 19.99 or 29.99 then the sub fee. Having both costs set at a premium price is greed pure and simple. If people pay it who is to stop them, they can charge what the market brings.
Ok... Dont want to pay for MMO dont play
They charge the $50 for the game because they have made the same expenses in developement as any other game. So like any other publisher, Vivendi needs to make back its initial investment in this game. The following fee is for maintenance and content developement. And btw, the games comes with a free month. So basically you're paying $35 for the game ($50 minus one month

Wether or not a the game is a 100% finished is besides the point.
The game has been in developement for 3 years. During those years the publisher has given advances and milestonepayments etc. to the publisher.
Further, they have to rent/buy servers which also have to be maintained. Getting a serverpark up and running to accomodate for dozens of realms per region, which hold thousands of players each, is by no means cheap.
Then there is the issue of getting and training new staff. Community managers, GM's, customer service etc.
This article gives an impression of how much it really cost's to start up a MMO.
Like I said in my first post, Vivendi has to cover those expenses.
Last thing I would like to note is the following, value for money. This is biased of course and may not apply to everyone. WoW Has kept me busy for an average of 3 hours a day during the first 30 days. That's 90 hours worth of entertainment. No other game I have played in recent years has come close to that. I've gotten more entertainment out of these 45.- then out of the last 100.- spend on games before that.
To me the full price for WoW and other MMO's is fully justified.

Matchstick, just like you i'm entitled to my opinion. Paying $50 for a game on a store shelf it better be a finished product and an excellent game in it's own right.
I disagree regarding the costs associated with the development, a MMO costing enough to justify a standalone pricetag at retail release. There certainly is justification for a subscription fee to run an MMO. Whether it needs to be 15/month is a point of debate. The article you cite is not very good. It's not professionally written and is so broad that I am not sure it even has a point.
Why do people get so pissy cause they have to pay a fee? a month of quality gaming for the price of a 2 hour movie on a friday night pisses people off?
$15 a month is nothing even if you are not wealthy, im proof of that. and yes i am in my twentys and pay for my own game.
The reason not every game can be perfect is because they dont have unlimited funds to make it with. They have to make money back at some point or another, so they put out the game. When people buy the game, then they get more money, so they can pay for the servers, workers, etc. and they can also use that extra money to fix any unfixed changes. Think of it, you cant take your time making every little detail perfect when making an MMO, the investors will not be seeing any money come out of it and they will be pissed and may withdrawl what they put in.

All you guys are paying for WoW's beta
Steal it?
Guys, guys, If we will keep talking like that, we will keep this topic till the end f the world!
1st:
This game is too good to be free
2nd:
The developers etc. are also humans, and also need money
3rd:
WE SHOULD BE GLAD THEY DIDIN'T BLOW THE GAME AWAY 3 HOURS BEFORE THE RELASE!
I think like that...
Sorry for bad grammar!

No reason to be a dick about it^^^
Anyway if you don't wanna pay the fee - there are alot of free online games out there... plus that quild wars is coming out (I have to resist flaming this game as I personally don't like it).
The game is good but, not THAT good. It's basically EQ but, Blizzards version. I give them some props because they kept it light hearted and way more entertaining than EQ in my opinion. Blizzard has a great sense of humor - I'm glad they didn't loose it. If you haven't tried it and own this game - try an orc charactor once - nothing beats slapping lazy peons!
Captain obvious i must say.
