Hey folks,
My CE is ordered, but want to order a controller to use with the game.
I was thinking of the 360 controller, either wired or wireless version.
I have a 360 already, and I read that I can just get the adapter for my PC to use that wireless controller, but I've also heard that that lags with all games and isn't responsive as it is with the 360. Anyone have any experience of that?
Alternatively, if anyone can recommend any controllers that they've used successfully in the OB I'd be grateful.
Thanks.
p.s. I am running Win 7 64-bit in case that makes a difference to drivers etc.

I used a logitech dual analog which costs 20 dollars at EB games or gamespot. Its basically a ps controller. I reccomend it look up logitech computer controller and buy it from amazon im sure the price will be good. Im sure the newer ones will be spiffy.
Here http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1284821883&sr=8-1
the reviews are all over the board though . For 20 bucks it hould be great though
I love snails.
I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
Cant hug every snail.
Thanks for info. Checking it out.
I'm using the wired 360 controller, works like a charm.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I use this one. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Rumblepad-Vibration-Feedback-Gamepad/dp/B0002XJBG4/ref=pd_cp_e_1
same controller but with force feedback.
I use a ps3 controller and it works like a charm for me.
Oh, can you give me some advices then? I'm trying to use my wired 360 controller (from my 360 console) for my windows vista 32 bits. Got the driver from here http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=Gaming&type=Gaming&name=C8G-00004&os=WVista_32〈=en but FFXIV beta config program didn't recognize it.
Thanks in advance
I use one of my PS3 controllers, with a little bit of driver fiddling that you can find on the net it works wired & wireless, feels just like FF12,13 when sitting on Sofa with it on TV.
Core i5 13600KF, BeQuiet Pure Loop FX 360, 32gb DDR5-6000 XPG, WD SN850 NVMe ,PNY 3090 XLR8, Asus Prime Z790-A, Lian-Li O11 PCMR case (limited ed 1045/2000), 32" LG Ultragear 4k Monitor, Logitech G560 LightSync Sound, Razer Deathadder V2 and Razer Blackwidow V3 Keyboard
Ive used both the logitech rumblepad 2 and the xbox 360 controller. Both work great but have their +/-'s
Xbox 360: The dpad is not as crisp as the logitech, which can mess up targetting sometimes, but im used to it now. Great controller for small hands, and the LT buttons are pressure sensitive, but I don't know what use that will have in this game.
Logitech: For my tiny as hands, the controller is too big and I have trouble using both analogs on it, but the D-pad is about 10 times more accurate than the 360s. The dpad/analog are in opposite places than the 360 on this controller, which I don't like.
I settled on the xbox 360 because being able to hold and control the analogs is more important to me than the dpad. If I had bigger hands, or longer thumbs, i would use the logitech hands down, even though the placement is wierd.
One final note: the xbox 360 is about 25% smaller than the logitech 2 rumblepad.
Pro's use keyboard and mouse.
I thought the same way until I picked up a wireless receiver for my Xbox controller. Makes FFXIV a way better experience.
not everyone can use windowerXIV to get hardware mouse, its windows vista or 7 only.
Also, the locked keys make it no more effective than using a controller unless your using a third party macro utility to have complete control over your keyboard.
Your best option without using any third party macros to correct soem of the crazy limitations of the game, is to use mouse for targeting, and controller for everythign else LOL
Not sure, I never actually installed any drivers.
I just plugged it in and went into FFXIVConfig.

The item pictures in the link above is what I am using...used it in FFXI too. It's an amazing gizmo for controller-based MMOs.
They are hard to find now, as they are not made anymore...not a lot of console-based mmorpgs in existence
you need a PS2 to USB adapter to use it, but those are like 3 bucks.
It fits comfortably across your lap and you don't have to put it down to type, It really comes into its own when your PC is connected to your big-screen TV!!

Pttf Keyboad only is pro.. the mouse is for lamers...
Anywho all joking aside...
I was using a wired 360 controller but the D-pad sucks, it was messing me up.
I use a Gamemon USB Adaptor to use a PS2 contoller now.
Oh I just picked up a PowerA Elite Wireless Controller for PS3 from Walmart for $30 and it works on the PC without that whole motionjoy/ds3 driver crap.
There is Pro Elite version of the same controller at is $50 (it changes, vs the one I have that just uses batterys)
I got the controller for FPS games on the PS3, Because it's kinda like a 360 controller.
have you played this game yet? Ya, you can use a keyboard and mouse, but get used to no programmable hotkeys and cycling through long menu interfaces.
*edit* and have fun with inventory management
I haven't decided whether I'll use a controller or not since I like the keyboard. But this controller looks interesting. Have you used it in open beta? Is FFXIV supporting the vibration feedback feature?
It does on the 360 so I would assume it does on the PS2/3 controllers.
Just an FYI. I alternate between the 360 and using a mouse (for certain tasks)
Don't turn vibration on...or the controller will fly off your desk

Yes i've been playing roughly every other day or so
It was a little difficult at first, but I see no reason to waste money on a gamepad, i'm very adabtable with a keyboard apparently and honestly don't have much problems with it at this point. I can likely get anything done just as fast, if not faster than someone with a controller.
And no I don't use the hardware mouse fix, though SE plans to enable it at release, which will be better for sure.
You just gotta be pro like myself I suppose.
I use a logitech.
I tried the Xbox, is was bigger which felt better, but the buttons.
I stoppeed using the Xbox because I could not stand playing with the d-pad below the knob on the left.
I like my knobs to be symmetrical on both sides, expecially since those are the most used controls.
I concur, I use the exact same one and it works great. Also, if you use the config to set up the gamepad there isn't a default set up to map the buttons. I used this link to get them pretty similar to how I had my gamepad set up when I played FFXI on the PS2 back in the day. (as far as I remember it to be anyways)

I changed a few buttons out of preference on mine however.
Good luck!
Thanks for all the information folks - it's appreciated. I am going to see if I can get my PS3 controller to work first, failing that it will likely be the XBox 360 controller, (it's half the price of the Logitech models recommended, at their U.K. prices). I may try the keyboard/mouse thing but I understand it's not ideal - a bit gutted as I have a Razer Naga which has been great, but if a controller is better for the game don't mind using one of those at all.
I use a Logitech wireless PS3 controller as well...no problems setting it up at all
