Excellent teaser! I linked it in my blog, too. I doubt any of my friends care about Fallout in the least, but I think it is cool and funny for just about anyone to read.

I like what i've seen so far, but I hope they start giving out some more information soon. :/

Oh well, only one more month till Fallout New Vegas, so I guess we can't complain.

There's nothing intrinsically special about fallout, it's just when it came out it offered an experience unlike any other and was enjoyable for that reason.

And to this day, the only thing that has ever come close is Jagged Alliance.

Fallout was a good game, it had a good story, it had good gameplay, everything was well thought out and pretty much hits every other point that a good game should hit, including the unique gameplay.

Of course I'm talking about 1 & 2, 3 was good, but is still doesn't compare.

I find very little really holds my attention these days. My personal tastes for entertainment are growing much faster than the speed at which the industry is growing. Sadly, since I'm not in charge of the entertainment industry all I can do is take a lot of naps on this long boring "car ride" and hope the destination doesn't suck.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

There could be alot good about a Fallout MMO. But do I have high hopes for it? Absolutely not. They are going to turn a sandbox single player game into a themepark MMO. I would bet money on it. I would bet money on them being surprised at how massively it fails when they do, too.

While I don't think I have high hopes for a Fallout MMO, I don't think the previous game types have anything to do with the potential quality of the MMO.

Warcraft was an RTS. WoW is the most popular MMO ever.

I just hope a Fallout MMO doesn't turn into something like Fallen Earth.

I'm pretty sure your hopes won't come true, because I'm pretty sure that's going to be closer to WoW than FE.

Which, kinda makes you right because the other games were Single Player Sandbox RPGs and would actually lend themselves to great MMOs if they were just simply modded properly, but I highly doubt they are going to make the MMO a Sandbox. I'm thinking something more along the lines of  a massive ball of fail like Brotherhood of Steel, than 1, 2 or even 3.

Here are the reasons that I can think of right off the bat.

** First of all, it is not set in a typical fantasy setting with dwarves, elves, swords, and magic.  It set in a Post-Nuclear War world with Humanity climbing out of the ashes.  It draws quite heavily from the theme of Mel Gibson's old "Road Warrior" movies (less of "Mad Max").  It's not Star Wars or Star Trek.  It'll be in a pretty unpopulated field of MMORPG settings, with Fallen Earth being its closest neighbor.

** Traditionally in Fallout games, Melee and Ranged combat is both viable.  Firearms are still to be found but ammunition can be a premium.

** Fallout games have traditionally shown a variety of power groups at play.  A little village trying to survive and keep the Raiders at bay.  Raiders and other rampaging groups going out to kill, enslave, and even eat those unfortunate enough to come across them and are not ready to deal with them.  Or even the NCR (New California Republic) from the first Fallout games, a fledgeling government gathering power in the wastes of the Western USA.  There's the Brotherhood of Steel, a paramilitary group dedicated to gathering technology from the ruins and traditionally would prefer to keep to themselves.  And of course the Enclave, remnants of the old US Government that escaped the Nuclear Exchange and are trying to reassert authority over the old USA... but are of the opinion the survivors on the continent are Mutants and need to be annihalated.  In short, there's lots of power circles at play in Fallout.  And it would be outstanding if players are given the opportunity to align with certain ones.  That, in turn, would give a backdrop for PvP because some of these power groups naturally are hostile to each other.

** Fallout games have never gone the route of a traditional Class-based system.  Ever since the first game from the mid 90s by Black Isle Studios to Fallout 3 by Bethesda a few years ago, it's all about skills that you build up.  I'm curious to see how the devs approach this for the depth of an MMORPG.

** Sex.  Violence.  Dark humor.  Easter Eggs / "Nods" to other franchises.  A staple of Fallout games.  From the first 2 Fallout games:  Shots to the groin; "Bloody Mess."  Gore.  Lots of gore, especially from the first 2 games.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Fallout: MMO is probably something I have no interest in playing. In fact, I don't care how good it is, I'm not going to play it out of spite alone. It could come with three lingere models that happen to love cooking and cleaning, and I still wouldn't buy it. I'll totally pick up New Vegas, however.

A fallout mmo would be heaven, but this one isn't looking good.  These details they release are just to make it appear they are actually getting something done due to litigation between them and bethesda.

See, you should have specified and people would have understood, so I fixed your post for ya.

The people who made Fallout are now making Fallout: New Vegas. Obsidian Entertainment, formerly known as Black Isle Games. "Interplay" was the publisher, Black Isle was their development department. When "Interplay" shut them down, they formed Obsidian

That will end up disappearing before long.

The team who made the original games would be the special bit so yeah the name alone is no guarantee of anything, although i think the Fallout "world" does lend itself quite well to an MMO format - in theory.

I've pretty much loved all the Fallout games. I even loved 3 and played it for months on end (though living in northern Virginia at the time I played it and being just about able to point to where my house would have been on the map probably added a heavy and somewhat-artificial layer of depth).

That said, a big part of Fallout's fun is what your character can do to shape the world. In an MMO setting, that's a bit harder to varying degrees. As an example, one of the first choices you have in Fallout 3 when you leave Vault 101 is to decide whether or not to detonate the nuclear bomb in the middle of the first settlement you come to. It's these choices and the ability to alter the world around you that makes the games so fun. So we'll just have to see.

Of course, I'll probably still play it, unless it really starts setting off warning bells pre-release. If nothing else, I just wanna play a Brotherhood of Steel knight for five minutes. >.>
