When you die open you menu and select return. This will return you to camp for 0 anima. You will then be weakened for 5 minutes where your HP will be halved. I don't remember it ever affecting my mp but I could be wrong.

I'm fairly certain they tell you this when you read the atheryte tutorial book when you go to do your first leve. Icould be wrong though.

Enjoy the rest of your Open Beta experience

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

And the helmet, the Onion Helm, that comes with the Collector's Edition is supposed to speed up the recovery process.  But not sure exactly how that will work.  I'm assuming the helmet will be a low level item.  So I'm wondering if you need to be wearing it when you die or if you can put it on when you 'return' and have it reduce the recovery time?  If you need to be wearing it when you die it probably won't be useful very long unless it scales.  I'm hoping it will be something you can put on while recovering.

You need to have the helm on when you die. It reduces the weak state from 5 minutes to 21/2 minutes. I think it will work from level 1 through max level but it being low, most will opt for better armor, especially if grouped with a conjurer who can raise after 38.

    Edited time.. hit 3 1/2 not 2 1/2 . ops

I got to participate in the Special items event so I can tell you that you need to be wearing it. It reduces the time you are in weakened state by half. The helmet is level 1 but it's good enough to last you for a very long time seeing as most classes don't have a specific headgear. Also it doesn't give you any negatives even if it isn't your armor type.

Did I answer all of your questions?

Cool.  Thanks for the answers.  I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a try.  I'm not sure I'll wear it all the time but it will be very nice to have when I know I'll be getting into a tough fight.

Yeah, I think I'll be doing the same.

I'll wear it all the time until I get a decent head slot item, then I'll just wear it for Leves or when taking on a risky engagement or exploring a risky area.

I really wish the appearance for this was a lot better.

I think the onion helm wll be a valuable tool later on in ffxiv's life. For example in a raid, if you know your going to die/or wipe have a macro to equip the helm before you die, that way you can recover faster and get back in the fight quicker.
