You can do it all on the same character.

However, (and I'm not 100% sure of this), if the game was anything like FFXI, you want be able to master ALL crafts on one character. There will probably be a cap at some high number that you will have to then choose a specific craft to specialize in. As far as harvesting / adventuring goes, I think you can max all of them on the same character, no problem.

So far as I'm aware the only real 'cap' is that you'll have most of your inventory slots filled with just the tools required for your trades and weapons, never mind materials and products.  We haven't seen high level, though, so they could make you specialize eventually.. I don't see why they would.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

Theres no cap, all trades are treated as "classes" in this game and with one character you can switch between and level any class you feel like, they start you with an 80 slot inventory also, and thats not including the stuff you put in your retainer, plus just like in ffxi if and when it becomes a problem they will quickly implement something such as a "mog house" for storage or a bank type thing.

The lvl cap for all classes will be 50 at release however.

For the current cap you can master all crafts to 50.  If they raise it or add something like a mastery quest later on way down the road they might make you pick one to specialize in, but judging from the ways which FFXIV differentiates from XI I'm guessing they will retain the freedom to diversify with no such limitations.

This is the part that completely sold me on the game. Come rain or high water. It's plays on my always room for improvement theory with gaming.

Also you can change your stats as well. The current system for it is kinda limited and you have to wait awhile before you can move a lot of points... They are looking at ways of fixing this however.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.
