Guild Wars 2: The Road to Comic-Con

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

As the MMORPG.com team prepares to descend on the New York Comic Con in a few weeks, Community Manager Michael Bitton writes about how much he's looking forward to getting hands on time with Guild Wars 2. Mike's also got plans to attend the ArenaNet panel and even becoming a panelist himself in the MMORPG.com discussion about "The Future of Online Gaming". Check out Mike's "The Road to Comic-Con" article and then join in on the discussion.

In just three short weeks, MMORPG.com will be heading to the New York Comic-Con at the Jacob Javits Center where ArenaNet will also be in attendance. Not only will ArenaNet be showing Guild Wars 2 and allowing those of us on the east coast to get our hands on the demo that was playable at GamesCom and PAX Prime, but ArenaNet will also be hosting their own “Building a Better MMO” panel featuring Guild Wars 2 designers Eric Flannum and Colin Johanson.

the demo only entails a lvl 1 - 10 human (starter area)

or a lvl 45 charr warrior.

dont think they will have any ranger for ya sadly

I'm glad they are going but sadly it will be the same demo from Gamescom and PAX. That is alot of flight miles just to give someone a 10-15 min play time with Guild Wars 2. It does show though they are dedicated to the fans in going out of their way to give them that time. ArenaNet is pretty awesome.

Ranger is a class not a race...

I think you are wrong imformed here.

At Gamescom and Pax you could play either the human (lvl 1 - 10) or charr (lvl 45 - 50) demo. In both demos you had 4 classes to choose from: warrior, elementalist, RANGER and Necromancer.

I really hope the game will stay free-to-play.

Well you do have to buy the game. But it will be subscription free.

Offcourse there will be no sub, thats been announced some time now.

I personally am wondering if there will be enough downloadable updates like zones, adventure packs, personal storie addons, dungeons  and such. And if they have will they be paid.  Enough updates to keep people at max level enthralled and bussy with the game.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

^.^ check the GW2 forums of this site again, writer of this article. there is a 50 min video with ranger gameplay all for you.

well,  for the good question, i guess i have to think a day about it...=P

It's kinda cruel to kill the innocent monsters standing in the fields picking daisies. -GW2-

I don't see why that will be a problem. They managed that fine with Guild Wars 1.

"...though I’ve gotta warn you, I’ll be playing the Ranger! I pretty much play a Ranger-type class in every MMO that will facilitate it so I hope to get a good look at the class. I don’t recall seeing the Ranger with a pet by his side in the various videos I’ve seen from PAX and GamesCom, so I’ll be on the lookout for my trusty Flamingo to aid me in my battles during the demo."

Great choice! Please spill the beans on all the Pet Skills you can find and how the Direct Commands and States work and responsiveness and general AI are working? Also could you ask if the GRIFFON in the mannifesto video (with the jumping Norn) will be a ranged pet or some such option?

One of the most interesting claims about GW2 is that it will sustain large groups of players in PvE (for Dynamic Events) and also in PvP (for WvWvW Keep Sieges). Can you ask how ArenaNet will be able to keep performance high during these battles?

That and the quality of combat have got to be fundamental for how good this game can be.

Tell arena net to keep the ideas coming! I'm glad that someone is stepping outside of the box with mmo's and not just with the combat.

I am currently looking at putting together a grant to get the equipment necessary to run an after school program that ties in language, reading, writing, math, and 21st Century Literacy skills with gaming, and I am seriously considering using GW2 as my game of choice.  I have to play it first though :)

Right now there is a 7th grade classroom using WoW to teach language arts but I think GW2 could be better :P

That could quite possibly be the worst idea I've ever heard and if it takes off there really is something wrong with America. You already get your kids addicted to fast food at a young age, now you want to tie that in with gaming? Great idea... sigh

My daughter learned to read using final fantasy. I think what you are doing is fan freaking tastic! outstanding! I would be happy to learn more about what you are doing...

  • WoW in the classroom...

Teacher: Ok class, now here is my character waving and saying hi to Samuel's character.

Samuel (typing): fuck off u noob

Teacher: Well, I see you've played WoW before but that's a great start Samuel... now try to add some punctuation.

Samuel (typing again): Fuck off u fucking noob!

Teacher: Good job! Umm, ok Samuel, I want you to use the chat channels now to invite more people to join us - the text should appear in my chat box too.

Samuel (typing in the trade channel): lf2m VC PST

    Class: ...

Teacher: Yes, err, well perhaps you could have been a little less cryptic. Class, that means looking for 2 more people to do an instance called the Deadmines and interested people should send a tell to Samuel.

(On the screen Samuel gets a tell, accompanied by a small ding).

    Iwanttositonyourface: invite plz

    Samuel: r u a girl?

Teacher: Ooh, look at that, Samuel is interacting with another player using English! Very good Samuel!

    The End.

On topic: Guild Wars 2 is fascinating to watch develop and I'll be reading anything and everything you find out at PAX!

    Could you please ask about:

1- What kind of information they can give us about the Gear?

2- What kind of items fall from loot (from each monster kill) and how those drops work? I mean, If they fall randomly? if there are some % of dropping an item from each monster?

And considering 3 players are attacking the same mob, can they all get that item, or only one/some of them gets it?

3- Are all skills "customizable" with traits, or only some of them?

4- Have they already set most of the details and features in PVP and W vs W vs W? Are they ready to give us details about it soon?

5- Are they still looking for other Energy options in long-term resource to replace potions?

6- What are the most important feedbacks they got in Gamescom and PAX? Are they thinking in changing something because of those feedbacks?

I know, too many question that probably won't be questionned, but it doesn't hurt trying! xD
