I was in open beta and I intend to buy it. But...I didn't preorder. And now they aren't taking preorders for the collectors edition. So if I can't get a collectors edition off the shelf at a store tomorrow, does that mean I won't be able to play until the 30th when I get the regular edition? Thanks.
Comments
Blame your retailer for not taking preorders so close to release, probably because all the other players in your area beat you to depleting their stock, not Square-Enix.
You might not be sunk. You technically don't need a pre-order, what you technically need is the collector's edition. Provided someone has it in stock on release (e.g. not all the copies are already pre-ordered) you'll be able to get the Collector's Edition on the 22nd.
Uh, he didn't blame anyone. He's asking if it means he has to start on the 30th.
Yep though I would check around for CE copies in stores on Wednesday. Some of them will have copies in stock.
Next time just pre-order asap. They can always be canceled later if you find out you don't like the game.
I'm not blaming anybody. If I have to wait then I have to wait. I am the patient sort.
Ah, my bad, I interpreted his saying "Thanks." as a sarcastic oh, thanks a lot, Square-Enix, now it's too late and I'm screwed, probably in conjunction with the thread title, "so, lemme get this straight..." [through clenched teeth, hands balled up into fists].
I've been exposed to way too many whiners lately.
Wednesday, eh? I'll do that thanks. But if I can't find one, I have to wait til the 30th, right? Only collectors editions get early access and everyone else is the 30th?
That is correct. However, check with your local BestBuy, Gamestop, Walmart, etc. Call around, a manager can probably hook you up. Someone will have extra copies and will let you pre-order.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Looks like Amazon still has preorders: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Collectors-Pc/dp/B003O6EFKI/
Arriving on 22nd... maybe just for Prime members? But you can trial Prime and get it
Don't worry brah, A week in this mmo will be a drop in the bucket if you play for a long time.
Amazon was offering 99 cent release day shipping. If they are still doing that then that is the way to go.
OK thanks guys. See you in game sooner or later!
I dont understand the question i think.
You are asking if u will have to wait till the 30th if u cant get the CE right?
Now here is the thing i dont get if u cant get the CE before the 30th u will not have any copy of the game right?
So it should be obvious that u will not be able to play before u own a copy maybe u will get a CE in (just as example) 4 days than u of course would be able to play before the 30th even tho u did not get it tom from a shelf but besides getting the game before the 30th there is no way u could play it since well u dont have it.....since this is so obvious i suspect i misunderstood the question right?
I placed the CE order with Amazon with one-day shipping. That's that! Thanks again guys
I wonder how Amazon is shipping the release day orders, mine hasnt shipped yet, and normally it takes em 3 days to get stuff to me =(
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Yje answer is a simple YES.

If the doomsayers are to be believed there should be stacks of abandoned CEs at all kinds of stores. Perhaps not so much.
Three possiblities.
1. Amazon was mentioned. Order today and they can probably have it to you on Wednesday.
2. Go make friends with the manager at one of the small box game retailers like Gamestop. Ask him to hold back the first cancelled CE for you if one comes up. Get there as early as possible on wednesday to grab it.
3. Go to a big box retailer like a best buy early on Wednesday and ask if you can get a copy of the new game that just came in. Very often the big box retailers will simply order a set amount of CEs and not all will be spoken for. Also 50/50 chance that who ever is in charge doesn't realize that some are spoken for and may just give you one anyway. Anybodies game at that point.
All die, so die well.
maybe they mean tomorrow at midnight which would actually be Wed. Sometimes retailers have midnight release parties though I haven't heard yet if there will be one for this title, especially since it is for the CEs only and not the general release.
All die, so die well.
As imagined by a doomsayer:
"I'm here to pick up my FFXIV CE Preorder."
"Oh, sure, take it. Take 12. Nobody's buying these doorstops."
"Uh, thanks, I guess?"
Wow what a pleasant surprise. My Amazon order has shipped and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow! When I initially placed the order the estimated delivery date was the 24th.
This is the first time I have pre-ordered from them instead of Gamestop. I may have to continue using Amazon.
How is the early access done? Do players receive a different key or do they have to wait to receive there box and the key in the box is just allowed to play early? Basically, do we have to wait to receive our box to play early or are early access keys sent out via email?
It is my understanding that we have to wait to receive our CE box to gain early access.
As far as I know the only way to get the client and the registration code is out of the box. So you'll need to wait. Make sure you go to the SE account management page and create an account and setup payment info. That needs to be done in advance.
