EQ Time-locked progression server - January

MardyMardy Member Posts: 2,213

According to a post on this thread:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=166849

"Time locked progression server tentatively scheduled for 2nd week in January. Time lock of each expansion to be determined."

Someone said a dev at the fan faire told him a new time locked progression server is going to be scheduled to come out January.  You can check out his blog with more info (http://www.completeheal.com/)  Progression server ruleset was very popular the last time they had them.  But there were some complaints about certain hardcore guilds opening expansions up too fast.  So they've listened to the playerbase and are working towards a timelocked progression server.

Based on lots of feedback, I think this is going to be a very popular server.  Not only because of the timelocked feature, but it'll be the closest to old classic server there is.  Good stuff imo image

I will probably resubb as well. Not only for nostalgia reasons.

i would probably come back for that, i played on the first progression servers they launched a while back but lost intrest mainly because of the zerg guilds opening stuff up so fast.  I think alot of people left due to the same reason.  I will for sure be watching for more information on a time lock server though.  I miss old EQ

Afraid to sound stupid here, but what exactly does it mean to be a "time locked progression" server?

EQ had a progression server before, where once you killed certain raid bosses, an expansion would open.  So while the progressoin server was wildly popular initially, many thought the server was ruined by a few uber raid guilds that killed all the raid bosses too quickly, thus they opened more and more expansions too quickly.

Time locked means this time, expansions will open on a set time.  So say they launch the server in classic EQ environment, then two weeks later Kunark expansion opens up for everybody to play.  Then say 1 month later Velious opens up, etc..  It's time locked so raid guilds can't open all the expansions within a short amount of time.

And no, they haven't determined the time between expansion unlocks, nor a set date for the actual server release.  They got a new expansion they're pushing out right now so we won't get details until after the expansion release next month.

Why bother resubbing to EQ for a classic experience when you can just play on an EQMU server (and it's free).  P1999 is vastly more classic than a progression server would be and the population is fairly large.

The problem with these servers is that players all have different ideas on what exactly constitutes "Classic EQ."  For me, I started EQ after PoP was released, so "classic" EQ would be Planes of Power era, as original EQ would be like a whole new game.

I think the majority of players wanting a classic server started at launch, after Kunark or during Velious, and after the game progresses past those expansions, the server will slowly die.  The difference between the new server in the old one will simply be the time it takes to kill it.  SOE would be much better served simply by releasing a trilogy server that only has content up to Velious and will never progress beyond that point.

Awesome, I would come back for this!  Only if they would do this for daoc :P.

Though I am curious as to what they would do about races? and "free content" expansions?  I assume races would be released with the expansion, but I do wonder about the "free content" stuff.  Probably time locked to be in the "proper" spot.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

I hope the expansions are unlocked pretty slow tbh.  I've played only a bit of EQ but would love to start from the beginning. Just wish I could find a good guild to help me see all the content B)

Hell yeah. This is awesome. I was already planning to resub, and this might just be the perfect reason.

Project1999 is also a progression server, it's currently at velious.

    Negative. It is still pre-Kunark.

Is it staying at pre-Kunark? or just moving really slow..

Sorry my mistake, it's the interface that is Velious? I'm loving it at the moment, just started a Necromancer. Plenty of players around too.

They are planning on releasing Kunark at some point.

I made the huge mistake of trying this years ago, it killed my love of the game instantly.

I found no fun in killing mobs that didn't hit back, or being able to speak to a GM and being boosted to max lvl with access to all the gear that I had dreamed of for years.

The game suddenly gave me everything for no effort, the temptation factor is too strong to just say "No I won't submit a ticket to get all that lovely gear and my free class epic item".

However is this P1999 setup so that you have to lvl through the content? and that all boss encounters have all their abilities turned on and actually do fight back and that the rest of the game world is there and all mobs act as they do in the live service?

Technically, you're not supposed to talk about free/emulated servers on these forums. That said, I will say that the server in question isn't anything like the ones you played on before.
