Tried searching here and on FFXIV Core but couldn't get an answer so just thought I would ask.
I've set up my account and from what I've read here I need to get my billing information in order before I get my CE version tomorrow. Now here in the UK to register my debit/credit card I need to sign up with Click and Buy. I feel more comfortable just buying Crysta from my Paypal account and paying my sub that way. My question is do I need to have Crysta topped up in my account to start playing FFXIV tomorrow or will I just start playing and then after 30 days have to 'top up' my Crysta to continue playing?

From the SE Account Mgmt page:
Square Enix Crysta
You can pay for options by adding Crysta to your account and using your Crysta balance to pay service fees. To use Crysta, select it on the payment method selection screen.
*Crysta cannot be used as a payment method if you do not have enough in your account.
*Depending on your country of residence, Crysta may not be available.
So it sounds like you would need to have enough in Crysta to cover at least one month.
I don't get this whole clickandbuy crap I just want it to be like EQ2 billing service to buy Crysta still researching on this before my copy arrives tomorrow.
ClickandBuy is the european version of paypal. I don't like it either, I started to go down the registration path with them but have now thought agaisnt it. I bought $20 worth of Crysta and YES, you can guy crysta using PAYPAL or Ultimate Gaming Cards.
I'm just going to use the Paypal --> Crysta method. I trush paypal more than ClickandBuy.
I just setup my credit card info in billing section. Crysta sounded like more effort than it was worth. Not sure what all it's used for but it sounds like it is for buying other stuff from SE so you can purchase 'credits' to apply toward different things. I think you would still need to use you credit card to buy the credits. Anyway I have my info in there now and that is all they require to play from what I understand. You can't select a subscription term before you register the game and I don't think you need to before your free time expires.
Edit: I see Hrayr2148 gave a good explanation in the post just above me. I'm not fast enough
I just went ahead with the click and buy thing, not realizing what it was lol?, to late now I guess to switch since they already have my info. Is click and buy really that bad?
Just got this from another forum
"It seems you can play the first month without having to have crysta present on your account. As soon as it sees you register a new FFXIV, you automatically get like 1399 crysta. Which pays for the first month."
So thats great news for people wanting to use Crysta.

I think either way is an unnecessary step. That said, the Crysta was easy. Click the 'Add Crysta' button, click paypal, login in and agree to the $$. Done
Then of curse I clicked on my Crysta wallet (button..whatever they call it) and I saw the amount I ordered.
Dude thanks man cause ya we do get a free month with our CE copies.
