MMORPG.com's Garrett Fuller recently had the chance to sit down with TERA Production Associate Scott James Magner to talk about the game and to score a few answers to questions that have cropped up since PAX a few weeks ago. The two covered topics ranging from PvP to the action-combat system to what's in store for developers this fall. You won't want to miss this one so read on!
TERA has continued to deliver in game demos at shows. How close are these demos to the full game play experience?
Let’s start by saying that the demos are in fact actual gameplay. All of the graphics, and the history and lore elements provided by the demonstrators, are taken straight from the game. But the demo only scratches the surface of the full TERA experience.
TERA gameplay starts at character creation, and in our opinion never really ends. There’s as much to do at level 60 as in all the levels leading up to it, and that’s just on release day. We’ll keep providing a complete and dynamic game experience for as long as our customers choose to share their time with us.

My feelings for this game are mixed...I don't want to play the "same type of mmo" but at the same time I am intrigued.

*yawn* New interview, same boring crap. Would be nice is En Masse would release some interesting news.
Rofl, this game is NOT the same type of MMO. It's not only the combat, it does have some unique features like the political system etc.
Didnt see any REAL information, only vague answers...
Kinda vague. But I'm interested...
oh wow! another korean grinder! i can't wait!
Looks good, sounds good. Will see how it plays out.
Oh, shut up. You know nothing. They boys and girls at En Masse is working VERY hard to make it into a generic grinder. Please, know stuff before post. Thanks.
Anything with swords/shields and magic is "the same type off MMO". Just because it has some new graphics (3D engine) and a political system doesn't mean it's a brand-new MMO with nothing the same.
I am not hating the game I am just saying that I have seen nothing so far that has done nothing more than intrigue me. I haven't seen anything that made my eyes widen and grab my credit card in anticipation.

At least I get a laugh every time I see this game. That ridulous picture of the tank with the lance is epic.
I have yet to see a Korean game that is not a major grinder. They might surprise, but I have great doubts.
Nice to see there is a optimist. Im using this term loosly but none the less.
You know I would really like to see something that has never been done before....no?...nothing?
Are you telling me that it is not possible to create something entirely new and fresh? Well I might as well go back to WoW, god knows its perfect and is completely original. Like you know, how it didnt get inspiration from EQ or Ultima online and surely spwaned from Gods feces.
Well that was a nice rant.
Same here.
2011 requires a lot of time and a lot of money to play all upcoming mmos and from what we all know time and money are 2 things that are opposite.Except of course if you u are a rich boy and you dont have to work.
This is pretty much how I feel, too. I've been following this game for a while and the lack of any new information makes it difficult to stay interested.
bro the political system has been around since Rising Force online i do like the combat but i kina feel that i will still have to spam 123456 keys might wait for Blade and Soul but the lack of any new info from both is really lame am starting to like guild wars 2 though
So RF Online has a Political System like Tera will have?
I don't understand why some are over-hyped about a game when the only thing they have to offer in defense of this game is a stupid Political system? It's nothing more than interesting... you can't tell me that this one system is the make or break for this game. If all I wanted from a MMO was a Political system, I would go back to an RTS like Total War or Civilization...
My only beef with this game is with all the publicity this game has put out, all I know about it, is that it has a Political system and a 3D engine.....oooooo.... soo amazing.
*end rant* (it's late and I'm bored)

Played the game back at Comic con San Diego
Graphics = top notch, but he was using alienware or some sort of high end pc.
Combat = awesome style, a lot of dodging, moving around positioning yourself for better attacks and timing especially for the berserker. The monsters don't have 1 generic attack, so you really gotta dodge and strategize.
Quest = sadly what I experienced was bland since it had the huge exclamation point on the npc's head with the matching kill 10 rats and come back and I have a question mark instead.
And one question that we asked the people that was around tera was about the combat. Since you move around and you can hit different parts of the monsters, is there a significance in hitting a certain part? Like a weak spot per se? He answered " Thats a great question we will look into it in the future"
And again before some fan boy flame me, this is what I experienced during Comicon at San Diego and this is only my opinion. The game is still being molded and polished as we speak and I do hope they do change the generic questing, other than that its a good game.
It's not only the political system boy. It has amazing graphics, it has a good, fast paces, tight combat system, it has fully player build towns, it has dynamic events after lvl 30 and other thigns that we probably don't know. Next time do your homework before spitting bs.
As usual, demo players's posts are usefull, all others saying "it'll be wonderfull..." or "another korean game ..;" are nulls and no constructive.
Having a categorical.advice without playing at least a beta is for retards.
He said that RF Online has a Political System like Tera and I am curious to know if it does because I may go check it out. People are hyped about the game because it looks like it will be a really fun game and only an idiot would question why someone likes something just because they dont see it. You are comming off sounding like a hater by going in attack mode just because somebody asked a question. Everything about the game looks amazing to me including the politcal system. As a Lineage 2 player I am all for games where players have an actual impact of the game world but you probaly have no idea what I am talking about. You not knowing nonthing about the game is your own fault.
I'll play GW2 (hell, who won't?) when it's released, snuggle up to FFXIV for comfort in the mean time but this is the one which makes my heart go pitter pat. I'm turning into a right fanboi for it!
I mean, the reviewer for MMORPG played it at E3 and stated that out of all the games they'd played at E3, they had the most fun playing this one. Sounds good to me...
Oh, this and Firefall... the video for that game rocks my boat!
LoL I quote "We’ll keep providing a complete and dynamic game experience for as long as our customers choose to share their time with us." I think they ment "Share their money with us"
LOL spitting BS? What part of anything I said was BS? I kinda want to try the game out too but nothing I said was BS. Everything you said I already know, and yet again... nothing there is fantastic. Just nice.
But more importantly.... what part of what I said was BS?
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
This is where you are wrong. I know a lot more than you think. It's because I know so much that I am making the statements that I am. I have played them all, beta tested them all and do quite a bit of reading considering I need something to do in my Statistic Design 2 and Computer networking class other than pay attention.
Where as your statement on me sounding like a hater is not without it's truth, it's more of me just being sceptical over just accepting everything.
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
Keep having those expectations buddy, they'll serve you well in the future. You will only get dissapointed in the years to come. There won't be any much, much, much different MMO until about late 2020. I'm not sure about what you are looking for - maybe a 4D engine game? A virtual reality?
