Did you see that guy's post about the class population in FFXIV? Was anyone else amazed at how many Conjurers there were? I mean, usually the thief/rogue archetype is the most popular. Plus, aren't Conjurers the healers (not exclusively, of course)? It blows my mind.
Conjurers are the casters in general, white and black mages, elementalists all in one class. Some may be playing Conjurers just to get Cure as well, so who knows.
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
Over the last 15 years of playing mmorpgs have always been drawn to playing caster types, So will the same in this one more then likely a Conj as a Thaum seems to be more DoT type caster. Would hope at one point down the road the summoner is somehow brought back. I know Square Enix has stated pet classes will return but who knows when that is. And to some I see making comments about content etc (bit off the OP's original question) remember beta was about 10 Gb of data the dvds have around 22gb of data to start.

The largest chunk of that will likely be sound. Not to say that the release won't have more content, but size is pretty misleading.
true i should have stated only about a 1/3 of the content was shown in beta the majority will be starting to unravel upon release and so on....course as we know some of that is never used or put aside to be used later on.

Playing conjurer is a smart start, it has good heal and buffs you can use with other classes. I was also thinking starting as a Conjurer for this reason alone.
Maybe making a healer with Thau, combining the two.
This game shines the most by combining the different skills. So whatever class you play you can always use some of the skills in other classes. I also think I really love this part of the game.
I also loved UO for being able to combine skills, but in here it goes a lot deeper. ( I played UO for 3 years )
Anyway I played almost every adventure class in beta and I like them all, so my main class becomes a Archer, because I like the idea of a lone ranger, of course my lone ranger will meet a lot of people.
I only have the problem that I don't know what race and gender I wanna play. I played Miqo'te, Lalafell female and male Hyur and I like them all.
In FFXI I played more characters, and it just is too much, so I need to make a choise in FFXIV.
In Beta I saw many different classes a lot, only Gladiator was a class I didn't see so much.
Anyway who cares about popular not? I know that I played in FFXI a female hume, because the character I liked (Mithra with a head that almost all mithra had) was so popular, I always regretting it, and about 2 years later I created a mithra I liked and stop caring about it, and I loved it. I never will decide again what I play on how popular something is.
Anyway my worry for now is that I can get the game today, I am free and I haven't got a message that I can get the game at the shop yet. Still 8am here, and the shop won't open before 9 am.
So I need to be patience, and clean my house! So my husband won't hate FFXIV more then he already does
Not sure on race and appearance yet. Filled all ten Character Creation slots and backed up the user folder, just in case. I'll be interested to see which one I go with when I'm forced to chose.
For progression:
Start as Pugulist until Second Wind, then Conjurer until Cure, then Gladiator moving forward (might also level Maurader until Blood Bath). I'll also do some gathering in the first week, then think about crafting.
As a melee in OB, I found Second Wind and Cure invaluable, once I moved beyond the first camp.
Marrowind was ruined by the fact that you could make super potions. I guess at the time it was great, but really I think games like Fallout 3 have far surpassed it. Pretty fun if you have nothing better to do and some time to spare I guess (just don't look into super potions on the internet!).
As far as what ffxiv job I will be playing tomorrow- I'm thinking lalafell gladiator, just in case parties turn out to be a good thing. I was a red mage in ffxi but it seems everyone and their mother is going to be a conjurer, and there's always dps, so I figure I'll try out tanking.

Ha! Me too!
Hume Goldsmith/Thaumatuage/Puglist should be a good start, with plans to branch out to pretty much every job in time.

I will be playing Morrowind with Acereal.
