World of Warcraft: Guild Chat Coming to Mobile App

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Blizzard World of Warcraft team has announced that guild chat will be forthcoming in the next update to the Mobile Armoury application available for iPhones, Androids. The guild chat ability will come at no cost to those who pay a monthly subscription fee for the Remote Auction House application.

We're pleased to announce a new feature being added to the Mobile Armory: Guild Chat! Coming soon in an update to the Mobile Armory app available in the iTunes App Store and Android Market, this new feature will allow all World of Warcraft Remote subscribers the ability to chat with their guildies right from their mobile device. Access to the guild chat feature is included for no extra charge in the $2.99 World of Warcraft Remote Auction House premium monthly subscription. In addition, soon after the launch of the mobile version we're planning on adding the ability for premium subscribers to use Guild Chat through any browser on the Armory website.

Guild Chat will allow you to chat with your guildmates via Guild Chat, Officer Chat, and Whispers. Now you can stay connected with your guild or update them from anywhere if you're going to be late to a raid! Stay tuned for additional information about this service and the upcoming Mobile Armory Guild Chat beta test.

    Reminds me of that instant messenger EQ used to have.  I used to scare the heck out of my friends by talking to them without them being able to see me in-game.

    This is the way of WoW:

    • Liberate the ideas of others;

    • Incorporate these ideas into your own game;

    • Decimate the competition with their own brilliance turned upon them.

    Nothing new here.

    This doesn't have anything to do with WoW's success. It was awesome before and it is still awesome. I don't use any of these premium features and yet I still play it.

    Um, TuppuP, all of that functionality (and more) is already available to players of Fallen Earth, funny to see Blizz playing catch up....and sad to see them charge an extra monthly fee for access - not like they need the money.

    I remember Tamagotchi  and how incredibly useless i thought it was. Being connected to something digital all the time.

    I love playing video games esspecially MMOS. But this level of connectivity is not good for people.

    So when do you get to be disconnected from wow now? What's next, an implant so you can level while sleeping? Like we all don't have enough digital distractions in our lives. If it were free I would use the auction house app if I were still playing but guild chat, no that I wouldn't use.

    Actually on second thought I have found a positive use for this.....no wait no I didn't.

    This is something I always enjoyed having back when I was playing EQ2 and I look forward to seeing how Blizzard implements it.

    One of the things I have struggled with as a guild leader in WoW is getting my guildmates to see and treat other guildies as something more than just the people you use to farm loot every week. A lot of WoW players logon for a raid, then logoff, never to be seen again until the next raid. Anything that helps keep those players in touch with their guildies will hopefully help the community aspect of the game.

    And for those complaining about the $3 cost, I seriously doubt that the people who are paying for mobile internet access really miss $3 a month.

    You forgot to mention the reason for the decimation. Blizzard liberates, incorporatess and improves.  Although this app isnt something liberated from GW2.

    WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

    Even though i play WoW, and am in a raiding guild, i wouldnt touch any of those WoW apps with a bargepole..  i dont know what kind of crazy direction this is all going, but i do know one thing.. im not interested in it.image

    I am sure that some will go ape for this, but in my opinion, it's just another invasion of personal time and privacy. WoW is not headed anywhere I care to be.

    i think these Apps is useless, when people are away from computer, they are supposed to socialize with the real world, and rest from the game, this apps only give the idea that,  they encourage you to always chat with virtual friend

    they are trying to make people sell their real life away or what

    their game alone is enough of making someone have no life

    So What Now?

    I like that they're charging for a feature that will be available free of charge in another game. Shameless money grab.

    The sad part is, someone will actually use this app...

  • VolkonVolkon Member UncommonPosts: 3,748

    This isn't even a ripoff of what GW2 will be doing, they're taking one minor feature of a much larger app that ArenaNet is offering for free and charging for it.

    http://www.arena.net/blog/gaming-outside-the-game-rick-ellis-talks-the-guild-wars-2-extended-experience

    Blizzard is fast-tracking the guild chat only because it's something they can easily and quickly get out there and charge a few bucks for. GW2 includes maps, event updates, etc. This is a pathetic attempt by Blizzard to leech more money from their fans.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

    Agreed. Blizzard is adding every possible feature, even those taken from other games, they have a huge staff who no doubt dable in video gaming themselves. Sadly though blizzard is probably gonna try milk people for more cash, and the worst thing is this allows players to always be in touch with a world that isnt real, it just seems like an extension of a bad idea for those that are already addicted to wow.
