Qestion about Servers

My friend and I pre-ordered the game, both recieved the CE yesterday, I got ingame a while before he did but then when he was ready to log in the world we had decided on "Mysidia" was not available for him to join anymore. I was just wondering if anyone knew if they are going to open back up the servers that seems to be full or if thats it, I couldnt find a statement or any info on the SE site. I hope that the server opens up because otherwise I will need to delete my character who is already 3-4 hours into the game and join a server with him, not that its the end of the world but not optimal at very least.

I am no expert on FF, but when I played the previous version of the MMO, you had to get an invite from a friend to join a particular server. I believe they had to get one after either joining a guild or getting to a certain level or something like that. I do not recall. Was quite a few years ago that I played.
Anyone else confirm that?
I remember thats the way FFXI was because when you went to choose a world they chose it for you and the only way to get into the servers with your friends was to get a buddy pass or invite to the server, but this game allows you to pick which server you want to play in, and I have not heard of a similar system yet but if there is one, a buddy pass/invite to my server for my friend would be really helpfull right now
When a server is full they'll close the server for new players for a while to avoid a laggy launch. They want a smooth experience for all players, just check their player's site and you'll see which servers are currently busy and full.
I would just delete the char, they never re opened the servers for FFXI last time I was on it and they even stated they were not opening them soon. Pops had died to some extremely low number by then too on those servers.

OP: If you take a look there you will see that making new accounts was suspended for a while. You might have been in that mix?
If the servers are currently full they block new character creation on that server for what seems to be only 10-15 mins. If you retry in a little bit, ypou should be able to create a character on that server.
Yes it appears the link you gave me is exactly what I ran into, the good news is It seems my friend will still be able to join the server with me, the time is no big deal because he can only play on my pc as his current pc wont run the game but he is getting a new one and we just wanted to make sure we are on the same world. So him waiting a little is no big deal
I just came to think of one problem with paying for each character. You could be unlucky and start on a server that just doesn't feel right, or suit you, so either you have to delete everything you have worked for, or pay another 3$ for a new character and try your luck on a new server. Thats just put simply, I know its more complicated than that, but thats a real downer for me, still my own fault for not knowing. Hopefully all servers will be fine if I buy the game.
They just announced they re opened a few servers today, so after maintinence you should be fine, info was on lodestone.
