Looking for a new online game, can anyone recomend one to me?

Heya, ok, so I got my brand spanking new MMORPG online acccount and now I am asking you lot for advice.

Way back last September, I got the free trial of SWG -( it was my first MMORPG and still the only one I play), afetr my 14 days I dived out and bought it.  I loved the game, the combat was cool, I could craft if I wanted to, if I wanted I could go PVP, and fight other players, etc.

I have been faithful to SWG until today, for the past 2 weeks I have been doing their Combat Upgrade testing on the test servers they have, it starts good, but so many things are being changed from what I think made SWG cool, that I am getting tired and want to find another game out there that will give me what I want.

I have had a look around, everquest and EQ2 are out, minlay cos they seem to be turning SWG into an EQ2 clone, EVE online I kinda like the sound of, but the huge robbery of ingame funds leaves me wondering if I could bear to be part of game that incourages griefing, WoW seems to suck from what I havae heard, but the one that I like the look of at the minute is MATRIX ONLINE.

So (finally), my question, has anyone played both SWG and the MXO, and if so which did you prefer and why?.

Griefing is part of EVE - but it can also be easily avoided - and to some extent is what makes the game that little bit different.

The gigantic corp robbery in EVE was performed by a roleplay corp who committed the robbery for In Character reasons (i.e. someone paid them to do it)

Well...I propose City of Heroes because I am a fanboi, but also because the combat mechanic seem to be quite important to you, and quite frankly, City of Heroes is 1 big combat mechanic system.

The game left many things conventionals to the MMORPGs out there on the bench, not even touching it.

If your idea of a good MMORPG is fighting most of the time, while maybe reading or not the cool story...the game is definitely the best out there.  It might lack a little deph, but the honesty they show compare to the others games out there is quite nice and refreshing and well worth the try.

Personnally I would stay clear of EVE, if the devs are to lazy to take the griefing away from you, you should show them back you are to lazy to consider their game. :P  My opinion.  :)

Matrix, I didnt hear even 1 single nice review of the game in my surrounding of RL friends...not even 1 person to stand and say Matrix is worth the $ you spent on it...not even 1 tiny little person, nope, everyone say the game dont deliver what it should be delivering or use more colorfull ways of trashing it.

WoW is an overgrown tutorial for EQ2 IMO.  So it really depend what you are looking for in a game.

Oh, before I forget, CoH is really great btw!  image  (yeah, I am a fanboi, and proud of it)  If you consider that I strongly hate superheroes and that I love CoH beyond comon sense, it should tell you that whatever they did in the game that please me, they freaking did it right and completely lose the competitors light years behind, in a faraway galaxy.

Guild Wars hits the stores this coming weekend, it's free to play. Just buy the game at your local software store.

    Hi ya!

I have played both MxO and SWG.  I didn't continue with MxO after the beta.. as I didn't think it was my "thing" so I can't comment on how it is LIVE.  SWG has been my addition for the last year and I am on the market for a new mmorpg as well.  Comparing the 2 (SWG and MxO beta) I liked SWG a lot better, albeit I didn't get the "big picture" of MxO including the storyline introduced after the game went live.  Also, my video card wasn't up to snuff, and being a laptop user, I am not able to upgrade.  So they weighed in on my choice not to continue.  The game was playable, but I know I was missing a lot.

I asked the same question as you... and after some research I have decided to try Guild Wars on April 28th.

Good luck on your quest for a new game.

I understand what yall aren't saying and totaly empathise, my swg account ended over the weekend.

I imgine over the next few weeks, months  we will have lots of folks asking the same question where to go next.

I kept my daoc account and glad i did i find it easy to get into enjoy many different toons on same sever

But i as well will watch developments see whats coming down the pike. Whatever happens may 5 cannot make up for game totaly changing and on going bugs, that will multiply and just not want to deal with that all over again.............

Good luck to yall on your next adventure and try not to hold on to the bitterness, just remember the lesson learned and reconize play while its fun when its not, it's ok to do something else

try not to hold on to the anger, it isn't worth it or healthy and soe earned it 's reputation now you know why.........................

I recommend giving the AC2 free trial a chance. The expansion pack comes out May 4, and I think it looks pretty good.

I would suggest Matrix Online and also Guild Wars.  Matrix has quite a few bugs and some issues with rebalancing xp, skills, etc. so you may wish to wait a bit on that one.

Here's another vote for City of Heroes.  It does not have crafting, but it is a lot of fun to play.

The Matrix Online has a lot of potential.  It has combat, PvP, and crafting.  The ability to change your character's build at will is a very nice feature.  You can unload your crafter abilities and download Kung Fu when you want to go kick a little butt.

MxO is having some growing pains at the moment.  A recent patch nerfs the amount of experience you get per mission if you finish it "too quickly" in the eyes of the devs.  For example, if you complete a mission in ten minutes and the developers think that type of mission should take at least thirty minutes to complete, you will get a third of the possible mission experience bonus.  It was a poorly planned change aimed at discouraging power levelling, and I suspect it will be backed out.  My advice is to hold off on MxO for a few months.

I would recommend trying SoR (Saga Of Ryzom).

It's one of the best looking MMO's out there, with a quite large and very friendly and mature community.

If newbie island seems a little desolate, it's because it is. It's as simple as that. Skip that and come right to the mainland. There's alot more players there, and I will guarantee that someone will powerlvl you if you ask in regional chat.

The good thing about SoR is that you can pursue whatever career you want. You can be a crafter, and still be a mage if you want that. This means that you can spend alot of time playing if you want to level everything.

Another good game is AO. Not as beautiful as SoR, but still very nice and fun to play.

Matrix Online doesn't have too much stuff to do apart for kicking people in the teeth, same as CoH.

    EQ2 is frustrating as hell..........yawn.........

WoW will get boring after a couple of months.................double yawn.........

I suggest to wait 1 week and buy Guild Wars, it might get boring after a while like WoW but at least there is no monthly fee.
Play GW til Dark & Light or Vanguard comes out, those are the next big thing.

I suggest Guild Wars. It has no monthly fee, and it's a great game.
