Play guitar. I am a guitarist and love MMORPGs, but havent come accross a single game where you can play guitar. MMOPRGS are too much of kill a monster do a quest. There should be some leishure places/items to take a break from everyday orc stabbing

In SWG can you become a better guitarists and learn new songs?

  • dsorrentdsorrent Member CommonPosts: 1,627

When you say "play the guitar", do you mean like where you actually write the music and play the notes on a guitar in the game? I don't think any game has that, although, that would be pretty cool... Actually I could see that in something like SWG... you can get composer skill where you get X many notes.. then you can compose music with those notes and sell the music... then the more people who buy your song, the more credible you get, the more XP you get in composer, the more notes you get to make even better songs... Obviously people with no musical talent what-so-ever probably wouldn't be successful in game musicians, but so what? I think it would be fun and cool to hear various player composed music...

That would be sweet if they could incorperate that into a game, with like diffrent insterments to. mabe even you could make bands, upload a cd cover and compose the songs and trade them with other people, like you could get a huge rep for your songs =p

That would be major coolness bonus points in an mmo =p

Second Life is a social games, yes.
I think you can build your guitar, play it, conpose music and sell it.
So that might be your ideal game.
Give it a try, it is $9 one off fee, after that is free

Vuuar has sai that he wants to implement a MIDI editor into DnL, but it probably won't arrive in at least a few years.

Quote: UO is a great game!

    I second that opinion!

You could always pay The Sims Online.

yes, you do. the better you become, the more songs you learn.

about in-game composer like proposed above... there is a HUGE problem with that, same as what would happen if they allow you to jack in your face or your favorite avatar: breaking of existing copyright.

Anybody can find the notes for famous songs and what would stop them to copy them in the game? nothing! but if the original musicians finds out, then SOE would be in a sea of troubles, MUCH worse than Cryptic studios is now for the Marvel lawsuit.

    play on occassion.

yes, you would have to build a guitar from scratch.

you would have to make a 3d model out of primitives (sphere, cube, etc), upload a skin for it, uploac sounds for it (notes?) write a script which explains its functionality etc...

Second life has an AWESOME amount of customisability - basically anything you can imagine just about - but it takes some REAL skill to make anything any good.

In SWG you have a kind of guitar and you can compose songs and even symphonies (together with other instruments). You can record baseline tracks on your droid so he can accompany you with a baseline tune and up to 6 stage effects.

By using the much maligned macros you can compose songs made of many parts. Imagine how many permutations you get from 10 instruments, 12+ songs , with every song having a basic tune and up to 8 flourishes. Then add the possibility for a second track from the droid. Now imagine a full orchestra of several entertainers with various instruments and group flourishes (SWG does some interaction between instruments when played in a group).

Then add a troupe of dancers, also with a dozen dance styles with varying elements.

And image designers add their holo emotes to the droid stage effects.

Did I mention that you can decorate your stage any way you like ? Or you could play in small hotel stages .... or big concert halls in NPC cities.

So ... if people tell you that all what entertainers, dancers, musicians do is standing around AFK playing their basic tune without flourishes ... then its PLAIN WRONG. You have so much possibilities as an entertainer ... its up to you how you play your character. There are whole guilds of entertainers working together  (on my server = GEA ... Galactic Entertainment Agency) and many events.

    Have fun

Actually, the whole Marvel lawsuit is a joke. I thought it's being thrown out of court. But I'm glad you brought that up, because it's the EXACT same situation. The developer provides the tools to be creative, if the user of those tools uses them to duplicate existing music, that's not the game developers fault. That's like trying to sue a company who made a piano because someone "came up" with a song which has all of the same notes as "Piano Man" by Billy Joel. The company that made the piano isn't responsible for that, nor is the developer of the game.
