Back to topic... I think that GW2 is a lot closer to being done than they are letting out.  I don't have anything to back up my position, but I have a strong feeling.  Eric and Izzy are both adept at picking and choosing their words, even in interviews--so I wouldn't put it past them to play dumb in order to fit into Regina/Gaile's info release time-table.  The pace at which info has been being released is regular... far too regular.  This leads me to believe that info has been lined up in a predetermind order corresponding to the pace at which they are completeing internal tasks.  Because the flow of info has been nearly constant and patterned (two small info's, a gameplay info, and a profession reveal spread evenly throughout four weeks) that means that they are either on schedule, or ahead of internal deadlines and can safely reveal info (e.g. there has been no breaks in the pattern; no break in info pattern = no missed deadline/delay).  My gut tells me that initial skill balance will be finished shortly and we will have a deluge of info on PvP, followed be closed beta to test the market mechanics, followed by another closed beta to test PvP balance.  Then they will go silent for about 3 weeks, and then open beta to stress test.

I feel the same way. The games core design and plans maybe done but they don't want to release the game without all the components of the game. Their information schedule IS in a particular pattern, and the game IS technically done. Do they want to release it with bugs or unbalanced classes? no. So what i personally think is that they have set a date of release (somewhere in 2011 as mmorpg sorta back up in the news title "The Extended Guild Wars 2 Experience, ......that developer Arena.Net will be implementing when the game goes live sometime in 2011.) within the company about when the game must be done. I believe it will come out within this year or Q1 of 2011 because i remember someone saying that their set-up at PAX was as if the game was complete, just with bugs(sorry cant find link to quote).

Also, why would they release such detailed information if the game itself wasn't complete and suppose to be coming out in 1 year as some people say? it doesnt take a year to fix bugs at least i hope and 50 min video clips? gameplay footage out the ass? im sorry but these are signs pointing to a soon release.

P.S - WoW copied their "phone app" idea. lol at all you wow dick riders, all they do is copy whatever the newest game has and claim it as theirs. Wow is a wagon, that unfortunately 10 million people are riding on.

I am betting on a Q2 release of next year 2011. There not going to make the mistake of releasing this year with the World of Warcraft expansion hitting towards the end of this year. And with SWTOR set for Q1 2011 I really doubt they will attempt to go up ageanst that.

All of that plus this game really only has one chance at hitting the ground running, since its going to rely purely upon box sales of the game.

If they plan the release just right they could have a mega hit on there hands. Picking up everyone thats blown through the Cata Expansion content and picking up everyone thats finished SWTOR content. There's not really a whole lot on the horizon for next year to compete ageanst them other them those two and Tera / Rift. But I hear rift set for a late next year release Q3 and Tera is just fighting off some server stability issues at this point. So I picture it making a Q4 this year or Q1 next year release.

It works for our favor, that's for certain. This is why I like online RPG's and not just MMO's.

Well, it doesn't have to but they will lose a lot of customers if they release it badly, games like Vanguard, AoC, WAR and many others know this.

The B2P method is more sensitive to bad initial sales than P2P or F2P, that is true. But ANET is perfectionists and that is the right way to win the players. Releasing the game too early is just a stupid waste of resources and if companies like Mythic, Funcom, Cryptic, SOE and the rest did the same Wow might not be so much bigger than the competition.

They have many teams, each team working in a part of the game. And there are still parts of the game that might not have a team working on it at the moment. So if one of the teams is faster in working on one of the things, that doesn't mean the other parts are ready to be released.

There's one team working in PVP and WxWxW, there's one team working in Apps, There are other teams working in lore, in personal story, in more DEs, in dungeons, in end-game, in graphics, in skills and classes, in professions and customization, in bugs, in looking for other energy systems to replace the potions, and a lot more. If one of the things is done, than there are more to go!

Learn to accept this, so you don't set yourself up for disappointment.

Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. There are tons of potentially awesome games coming out. Just take a break from MMO's and play an action adventure game, RPG, or shooter (Halo Reach, Black Ops, Killzone 2 anyone?). Just pour your focus into something else. Thats how I cope while waiting for certain games. Otherwise the wait really starts to kill me...

You could even branch out more and play this game when it comes out:  http://retrocityrampage.com/    Looks just plain awesome.

And finally, learn to just step away from the games sometimes. Something that I still have to work on everyday...

ArenaNet's team is HUGE.  They have a large team for everything, so they can do anything at anytime without having to finish a certain point in the game.

Who cares who copies who? I sure never did. If Blizzard copies the idea and ends up doing a better job than the original (which happens pretty often), then gratz to Blizzard. Thats just smart and effective business, friend. Im a gamer, and I just want to play the best product. I personally dont' care if the product is a combination of other people's ideas. I don't care where they got the feature in the first place. There's no patent on it. If ithey do it better, then they've got my money, simple as that.

Back on topic. People, keep in mind that we haven't even seen the other 4 professions in action, nor have we seen any gameplay videos of the other 3 races in action. We haven't seen the mists or arenas (PVP), nor heard much about them. We haven't seen any other zones besides the ones that were purposely put into the demo. What about dungeons? How much do we know about how the dungeons will function? Its possible to put together a very clever demo which only contains the features that are nearly finished, while leaving out all the rest of the stuff that still needs alot of work There are tons of features that we have only heard about, and have yet to see how they look and work.

People should just calm down. A-Net hasn't even given a date yet, which could easily mean that they are not even sure how long its going to take. A-Net is just smart, revealing features piece by piece to keep you salivating until release. At this rate, they've got enough un-revealed game content and features to keep feeding us more information until release. This is clever, because it keeps people like you and me focused on the game while other games are coming and going.

At the same time, don't allow A-Net to keep you too focused, because it will drive you crazy. Just play some other games in the meantime. E3, Gamescom, and PAX has shown us all that there is alot of awesome stuff coming out this year and next year. Enjoy it while waiting for GW2.

I think they have a release date planned out in their work calendar. It's just not known to us for good reason. The date is not set on stone, so if there is an unexpected pushback, we couldn't complain about it being delayed.

The release date for Guild Wars was officially announced to the public just a few months before the launch, while Open Beta was underway. It is possible it will take them that long to be certain.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

An average end-user can't tell the difference between a software prototype and a finished product.  Because there are more to software (and games) than just animated pixels.

So sit tight, it'll be ready when it is ready.

The game only looks complete because Arenanet has been being very mindful of what they release for people to play and see. If it isn't polished to an extreme they dont tend to even speak about it. So that means that they are waiting with four other classes and several mechanics that they are not as confidant on yet. I think its so much better to be patient and make sure that the rest of the game gets the same care, consideration and polish that the currently released information has gotten. If that means waiting a few more months then so be it, I just want it to be a good finished game when it comes out. If they dont think its done yet, trust them and just be patient and soak in the information they are able to give us.
