I can't find the quests

DojoDojo Member CommonPosts: 42

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if I am missing something in the game.  I started off and followed the whole quest series I got from the adventurer's guild with all the cut scenes and different areas and thought it was great!  After completeing that quest the only "quests" I can find are guildleves.  Where are the quests like the first series I did when starting.  Or do they not exist?

Thanks!

they go by ran rank 10 you do the next part of the storyk

As said above, it goes by class rank. When you get a class to rank 10, you can start the next bit of story.

I personally hate the pacing of the storyline quests. At least in FFXI, while not always possible to do right away, you always had something story-related on the go, and there were lots of little side quests that were done in a similar manner, though not quite to scale.

I hope they add a lot more story events in the future.

    I see thanks Rax.

You mean you have actually gone around town looking for those hidden npcs that offer quests but failed to find any?  I thought SE was supposed to add all that epic load of content that was more than the limited leves? Anyone actually done a none main story arc quest  yet?

  • grapevinegrapevine Member UncommonPosts: 1,927

There's no hidden quests, so running around speaking to npcs would be pointless.  Its bascially the (sporadic) story arc and leves.  So mostly grinding.

What SE were referring to as missing, was simply the complete story arc.  As we known, only about 10% of it was in beta.

    Gaj,

I kind of agree.  I don't really like the Guildleve system but I guess it is a way to pass the ranks.  I would prefer to do some more little side quests from NPCs in town but I guess that isn't how it is designed.

  • DojoDojo Member CommonPosts: 42

Actually I spoke to every single NPC in Grid trying to find a quest.  I thought maybe I was just missing the quests because the NPCs weren't marked as quest givers as they are in other MMOs.

I am disappointed that there are not more quests.

However, I expect that it is easily fixable, and will eventually be updated.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

but there are not all quests listed yet, since other quests might need some certain level of Fame in a city.

  • nishikazenishikaze Member UncommonPosts: 16

Most of the quest are in the leaves. Most of the NPC's go to the adventures guild when they want someone to do something for them.  They would rather just go there than stand about waiting for you to show up. lol  SE is trying to help you out on the side quests. You dont have to waste all the time running around town collecting all those quest and checking back with the npc. Nice to to play something different. HUH!!??

It's far more efficient to progress via the leve system than grinding.

those are the main story quests. Like the mIssions from FFXI. What everyone is asking, is where the hell are all the side quests that permeated FFXI's cities? where is the onion brigade type quest chains? The turn in 4 bat wings quests? THOSE quests!

I'm disappointed in this apparent lack of content. If all I do is log in, do my 8 leves and MAYBE get to do the storyline depending if I've leveled enough...that's it? really? Also, I ran from Gridania to Ul'Dah, to Limsa Lominsa in under an hour, the world felt very small, very empty and very NON atmospheric. Nothing like how FFXI made me feel when I went exploring. Each zone felt massive in FFXI, even the starter zones.

I have to wonder what is going on here. This is so NOT Square.

You can do as many leves as you want if you are in a group from what I understand. But yeah, same old stuff over and over again.

So basically a majority of your time is spent doing leves with some quests popping up every 10 ranks?

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

And that is Final Fantasy 14 in a nutshell.

Interesting to read that, as I've been wondering about that myself since OB. I haven't done much exploring yet, but the areas I've seen haven't felt expansive at all. I was hoping it was just because I was mostly around the starter areas and the world opened up beyond that.

All the leves are is a fancy word for DAILY. They aren't like the side quests from FFXI in any respect. Maybe if they didn't have a limit at all I might enjoy doing them more. Also, grouping at levels 1-10 is utterly pointless. I've done both and had more xp for my time/leves than I did joining a group of 6 and sharing leves.

And as much as I hate to admit it, the copy/paste aspect, mentioned in other posts and other game sites, is very evident unlike other games that hide it better. many long corridors of nothing, while I ran from city to city. Gridania is a perfect example. When you get a chance just take the main road south and follow it all the way to Ul'dah and notice how many times it seems you cross the exact same creek/river and how at each of those there is only one "way" to cross, certain dips in the terrain.

Well, it's clear SE made a judgement call about the quests and decided that they were going to aim for casual players.  It's nice for me because I don't have 8 hours a day to play every day, so I know on my days when I have less time I can still advance.

The guildleve system is set up to be completed in an hour or two.  That way casuals can keep up.

But if you have more time, you can do craft quests (which take up just as much time and give you just as much physical experience points), you can group for leves with your ls, you can grind ffxi style with your ls or random people, or you can do some battlewarden battles.  There's plenty to do it's just that some people haven't been able to find it yet.

Crafting is the main thing.  It's more important in this game than any other game (and you get xp for it).

The cities are close together for convenience, also for the casuals, but it's nice to be able to get together with your ls no matter what city they're in.  I agree exploration wasn't as epic but we're only in the first 3 zones.  It's just that they all connect to eachother.

I too miss the onion brigade type quests but they're just not in this game.  I'm waiting on the epic storyline but I'm confident it's in the game somewhere.  I think as you build up faction credits you will be unlocking a lot of the quests you're talking about.

Supposedly their are class quests for each of the guilds you can start, but it was mentioned you had to fulfil certain prerequisites before you could start them.

Your journal has it's own category for them, though perhaps they aren't in the game yet or something, as no one has mentioned every getting one started.

edit: Oh this might be why:

Oh, man.. this game so fail. Even the quests you do receive there is an arrow and a radius shown on your minimap of exactly where it is. On top of it, I believe your quest is a personal instance. To be honest, I don't even think it's that easy in World Of Warcraft to complete quests. That's some great stuff...

I love walking into the towns and seeing all the 'tools' working at their boring crafting professions. Really, this game is a grind and a job for that matter.

Have you played the game?  Guildleves create your own personal mobs so you're not standing there waiting for someone to finish their quest.  It's not in an instance it's in the open world.

LOL, crafting is pretty fun in this game and it's really important.  Half the game's jobs are crafting jobs and the economy is set up so it's really beneficial to have at least one full-time craft.  If you're a hardcore player, you will be at at significant disatvange without any craft at all.

They even set up the game so you can go from start to "finish" just by crafting.  Plus they set it up so they're all somewhat dependent on other crafts so there's a lot of inter-crafting interaction.

But yeah it doesn't involve swinging your greataxe for madpwnage and killing things so it must be work.

Can you really?  From what i got into the craft system, you need a fair amount of crystals that do drop while gathering but at a horrible rate compared to  farming monsters.  It's ideal for crafters to have  either a 'farm bot' buddy that gives them monster drop only items such as crystals/furs/pelts/etc or take up a DoW/DoM to farm themself.  This is fine of course I do like the multi class system in FFXIV... however... I still think calling the crafting/gathering   professions 'classes' is a bit much.
