lol how hard is it to see "wow the vendor has armor in his stall" i wonder what he sells ? "omg im too stupid to realize he sells armor because he doesnt have a title on his name" lookitmeh!, seriously youre that stupid ? wow i mean yeah mmos are about exploration not holding ur hand where to go and what to do , use your friggin head ? no? then just quit and stop complaining go play something else apparently the game makes you use your head too much :P
For the OP : I am completly against your statement!
The game is not like an Open beta! It is on his late Alpha stage! And I am not joking ....
The game is not like a F2P! hehe just try Atlantica Online, Allods, or even Dragonica and the content of these game are, literally, 100 times greater than FFXIV! And I am not joking.
As a FF Fan and as a FFXI player, I have tried to inform the community of the very very bad quality of this game along with thousand of other people during the open beta.
Yeah, we've heard it all before. It all comes down to this: the game is harder than you're used to and also it is operating under atypical conditions right now.
Discovering which NPCs sell the things you want? Part of the exploration task the game gives you. If that's too much trouble for you, cheat.
Personally, I can switch to my crafting profession in well under 30 seconds. How? Read the thread sticked on the top of this forum about profession switching with macros.
Yes, crafting takes a bit longer than other games, but the results are a bit more profound than them too, resulting in more important items and generally more skill gain per successful crafting session versus many competing MMORPGs.
When grinding, try exploring and finding spots that aren't so saturated by other players if you don't want a lot of competition. I found several, and my server is slightly over 2,000 players all day.
You can also try teaming up with people who have guildleves. You can share their guildleve and thereby do more/day that way. (It will also complete your guildleve if you have the same one already.) They seem to be on a 36 hour refresh timer right now.
UI lag was reduced considerably on release, though it's not been completely eliminated. If you're encounterin a whole lot of it, I advise considering lowering your system settings (see the config program on the start menu - ambient occlusion or double buffer are nonos) or getting away from big clumps of other players (all that traffic slows down your server interaction).
You'll generally find the very slowest performance near the camps closest to the major city, since everybody's character is only about 2-3 days old these areas are much more heavily trafficed than will be typical later. Even the flow of combat is a lot faster when you're further away from a massive saturation of players.
If, after a day or two of trying the game, you're still unable to adapt to it... alright, not all games are for everyone. Caveat Emptor and all that. Guess that's why they give you a 30 day trial with the box price.
What ever man this game blows and you know it......stop defending this POS with "this game is harder and only for elite players" or "its not gonna hold your hand" BS.
you get 8 levequest at level 1 and have 24 hour cool down, once your done you can craft or mindlessly gring mobs to level......you get 8 more at level 10 and have a few epic quest by then but those arn't repeatable.
This game FAILS HARD anyone who plays it i feel is just playing to spite the people who stated the obvious about lol.
and i've never played WoW
The fact that every server is at max or close to it seems to prove you wrong(and I doubt they are all playing out of spite).
that's nice.........have fun throwing money at this POS
I'm still playing the game but agree totally. I can't understand how you can defend the game when there are such plain obvious problems. Utter rubbish to blame that on the player.
There is such a extreme Lag with the UI, how is that down to the player??
For example, when I was selling Loot to a vendor I had to go through 3 menu options using a gamepad, each I could count 2-4secs delay on. So to sell 1 single item, it took me 10-16secs. I had 20+ items to sell...
How about when you need to swap weapons? Oh that's right, you have to first learn how to create macros, fine.. but then you have to write down each single weapon name or actions.. on a piece of paper as you can't copy and paste of course. Then type those in, oh.. and it's of course case sensitive as well.
Plus ofcourse each time you want to interact with any NPC or object, there is a delay.. I easily counted 3-6secs deley on NPCs.
What about no quests? fine, at least you can go and just grind mobs... right... There are hardly any random mobs, anywhere. There are a few spots were some spawn but out of the entire starter areas it's a tiny part and very small amounts. So I can't see how I'm supposed to be able to level up.
I'm sorry but there is NO way you can get away from the clunky, obtrusive and badly designed UI. I've never encountered anything like it. And that has NOTHING to do with being hardcore, ex wow player or whatever reason fanboys blame it. You're plain stupid if you're ignoring it.
On the other hand, I really like the combat, classes and the world itself. I just wish they could improve how things work, to make it easier to interact with the game. If they did, this game could become huge and be bloody amazing.
Now I'm not going to say there aren't delays at certain times under certain circumstances, but did you actually read what you wrote here?
2-4 second delay
10-16 seconds total delay
have to write something down
had to learn how to build a macro (once)
3-6 second delay
Seriously, have we as gamers gone so far that 5 seconds to do something is TOO LONG. Granted it probably doesn't need to be there in the first place, but seriously 5 seconds. Remember when they used to say you should chew each bite of food 30 seconds before you swallowed it? So do we just take a bite and swallow now immediately to avoid the delay? Do we have a mini-fridge at our desk now too? So we dont waste the 30 seconds it takes to walk into the kitchen to grab a cold bottle of water out of the regular frigde, it would make more sense, why waste 30 seconds when we can get one in under 5 second. What happens when 5 seconds becomes too much of a delay for us, do we stop drinking water all together? And sheesh what about eating food, it takes forever to make a good meal these days. Used to take a couple hours to MAKE diner, now its nuked in 90 seconds and we still complain.
I'm not bashing on you really, just pointing out an observation I find humerous is all. That we have gone from a 2400 baud dialup modem 15 years ago to not being able to stand a 5 second delay in our gaming actions. Where will we be in another 15 years? Complaining that our thoughts didn't directly register what we wanted in our game without any UI or input device at all??
I can't believe you are defending and think it's ok to have a delay between clicking a command and getting a response. Talk about scraping the barrel. As I said I like the game in other area but the UI is bad.
Why would I want it to work like a game on dialup did 12 years ago?
This is the problem, people like you think it's acceptable for games TODAY to produce sub-standard product. I've paid for this game and expect to get a good quality product that works in a half decent way. I'm not complaining about how it looks, combat, classes or even lack of quests. I don't mind grinding, I don't mind finding out how things work. I'm ok with all that. Even the lag can be forgiven in a new game (but it certainly doesn't help). But I'm NOT ok with a interface designed by a retard.
And why the hell would I want to write down the skills, weapons, armor etc on a piece of paper when the simple solution in any modern game would have been to allow you having more than a single window open and allow copy and paste.

I'll give SE the remainder of my trial days to change my mind...if they can't, they'll still get my money.
I'm serious by the way. XIV really makes me want to resub for XI again. XIV completely dropped the ball, and people who are defending it in its current state are blithering fanboys. Like the MMO Report guy said, "Lets face it, if there's anyone out there who needs help feeling more secure, it's SE fanboys."

FFXI was soooo much better than XIV even at its' launch. I cancelled my preorder of XIV in time thankfully.
After trying to use the retainer system to buy stuff I thought to myself "I really can't do this again" I can not dedicate several hours to a game for something like that and still end up not being able to find anything.
They strayed too far from FFXI and what made it great...
This entire thread seems like its made to make people respond in a negative way...
I think there is a word for that...
The word you're looking for is "troll" or perhaps "flame"

The way some strongly defend this game makes me seriously think that they were heavy paid, work for the company or are total idiots (sorry, but it's not an affront - not my fault you people were made that way). Nothing else to say because it's going nowhere with you people. So I'll let everyone decide for themselfs and drop their money on the window...it's a free world! The only advice to the ones who are interested to buy this product is to wait for a free trial...that way you'll know for sure if it's a rip-off or a good deal. Amen!
Doesn't surprise me... Finally a decent and challenging game comes out and all complain because they have to earn their achievements rather than being handed to them. Good, games like this and FFXI filter out the WoW players. Perfect for me.
The only challenge this game has is trying to get it installed and running properly.

You have to open your mind and look past the term "fail" and you'll see hundreds of clear and consice posts as to why this game is a disappointment to many fans of FFXI. It fails to improve on anything from XI, from intricate classes to group dynamics, and brings nothing new to the table.
And the ridiculous comments on how XIV is difficult need to come to an end. FFXI was difficult. This game is not.

Did I said it will fail? No...your strange interpretation makes me think you skipped school starting with kindergarten. I watched your posts regarding this game and is not hard to figure out that you have a very strong relation with this product. Happy marriage! I had a rather subjective opinion and like I said, I will let people to decide for themselfs and recommended to try the trial and see if it's worth buying or not. I, not like you, am not doing false publicity to a product wether it's good or bad. I just said, like in a early post, that this game is far from being a finished product and that's the truth and the way it stands out. If being fare it's wrong, than I think that you live in a communist part of the world.
Sorry, but most of those complaints have no basis. I just don't see any real justification for most of the complaints.
XIV has managed to take two steps back from XI in every department except for graphics. Aside from that, everything is just more annoying/worse than XI. My biggest personal complaint is that XIV just does not have the "soul" that XI did.
Here's a list of things that are worse than XI, not because of lag but because they've added in more redundant steps for no reason at all.
Example #1: Selling items to NPCs
*In XI you click on the NPC. Click on sell. When you see your list of items appear you can click on each one once and it'll show you how much it NPCs for on the same menu.
*In XIV you click on the NPC. Click on sell. When you see your list of items appear you can click on each one and it'll bring you to another menu that shows what it does, with another sell button on the bottom. After clicking that you're brought to another menu that tells you how much it NPCs for.
In order to simply find out how much something sells they've added in 2 extra menus for you to click through. Why? There's even more items in XIV with monster drops having +1 and more versions of them. Why does it take even longer in XIV to sell a bunch of items to a NPC than it did in XI. Someone made these menus for a reason.
Example #2: Linkshell list/sending tells
*In XI you click on the linshell section in the menu and you can view members. From here another click on someone's name will bring you into a /tell with their name already typed out for you.
*In XIV you click on the linkshell section in the menu and you can view members or 'talk to memebers'. If you click on view members you'll see who's in the linkshell but clicking on their name does nothing. If you go back a menu to where you can 'talk to members' all it does is type out /linkshell for you. That's it.
To send a tell in XIV you need to open the chat window with spacebar and then press ctrl+r. In XI you only had to press ctrl+r and it brought you to the same place, extra button press for no reason, why? If these are placeholders there should be less shit not more. Not only that but if someone sends you a tell you can't hit ctrl+r until you manually type out their name the first time and then send them a tell.
Example #3: Moving around/targetting
*In XI it took about a second or less to take out a weapon to attack something. To change target all I had to do was click switch target which was always up on the screen (for me as a pad player I just press X and that's it) and I can move the blue cursor around. After sticking it on whatever I want to attack next I press X and I'm on it.
*In XIV when you take out a weapon you stop for a complete 3 seconds. You're locked in place like cure lock is in XI every time you want to pull out your weapon. For targetting, again with a pad, if I'm already on a monster I have to press Circle to put away the action bar. Then I have to press Circle again so I can stop being locked onto that monster I don't want to attack. Only then am I allowed to move the cursor onto another monster and then I can press X to lock on and be ready to attack.
XI was clunky enough, XIV is worse. Unbelievable. And they want us to fight multiple monsters at the same fucking time when it controls worse than XI? Bravo SE.
Example #4: Can't move while viewing bazaars
What more needs to be said, you could move while looking at bazaars in XI but in XIV you come to a dead stop and can't move at all. There's more about the whole bazaar system that's messed up but I've been avoiding it like the plaque so I can't think of anything else right now, regardless, more nonsense that worked in XI but doesn't in XIV.
Edit: Forgot one
Example #5: Changing equipment
*In XI you placed your cursor over say a head slot, clicked on the button and it would show you the available head slots you can chose from in your inventory. You can see the stats of each piece just by having your cursor over them.
*In XIV you place your cursor over the head slot, click on the button and shows you every damn thing in your inventory. (Step backwards from XI yet again, surely enough this must be fixed by retail, right? So why has it gone through all phases of alpha/beta without changes. I'm positive this won't be fixed for retail but if someone wants to believe they will, go ahead.)
In order to see the stats you have to click on each item and be brought to another menu. More menus, more time wasted, XI did it better.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head but there's more dumb things that worked fine in XI but are worse in XIV, I feel like I'm forgetting something obvious so if I find out and give enough of a crap I'll put it in later.
The way some strongly defend this game makes me seriously think that they were heavy paid, work for the company or are total idiots (sorry, but it's not an affront - not my fault you people were made that way). Blah blah blah, another game that I don't like so I'll label it a "flop" and a "failure," despite the fact that I have no idea what constitutes success for the game's developers.
Oh yeah, I also called AoC and WAR "failures," even though they're quite obviously still profitable after two plus years. Believe me though, I know about flops and failures, because I'm a forum poster with a lot of business and life experience.

Seriously, the sheer stupidity of people who label games "failures" when they're still running is just completely laughable. Carry on geniuses.

Good points, I agree, it is silly to not just take those mechanics you list as used in FFXI, copy them to FFXIV and from that foundation improve upon them.
About "soul", that is a very subjective term, I have never played FFXI but seen quite a few screenshots and videoclips about it, and to me both look to have their specific Final Fantasy atmosphere, those FFXIV cities and forest regions look stunning.
But if the switch from FFXI to FFXIV to FFXI players resembles in some ways the switch as seen by EQ players from EQ to EQ2, then I can certainly relate. Even if EQ2 could look marvelous and has great atmospheric environments now, it didn't have that magical, adventurous atmosphere that EQ's world breathed, certainly not at EQ2's launch.

Finally? Where have you been for the past 8 years? Did you completely forget that EVE Online and Final Fantasy XI are in existance? Your arguement is extremely short sighted, sorry.
I think FFXI is mentioned by the post
You have to open your mind and look past the term "fail" and you'll see hundreds of clear and consice posts as to why this game is a disappointment to many fans of FFXI. It fails to improve on anything from XI, from intricate classes to group dynamics, and brings nothing new to the table.
And the ridiculous comments on how XIV is difficult need to come to an end. FFXI was difficult. This game is not.
Sorry, but most of those complaints have no basis. I just don't see any real justification for most of the complaints.

I'm not going to bite, i'll just say my mind is blown.
Completely offtopic I know but just had to say Alders love the pic in your sig. That is indeed one badass show.
Carry on...
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
I can see why they complain But they act like Se wont fix most of the stuff. Xi was horrible At release
/sarcasm
