Yeah I know these boards and every other FFXIV boards are full of people hating on this game...
Take a wild guess why that is...
IT BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I have no excuse I played the OB and thought that was boring as hell, but there was a lot of talk about how "the betas only represent x amount of the actual game and there is more to come in release". I didn't think there could be that much missing but I figured some more quests to keep me entertained and little things here and there to make it worth my time. I was wrong and anyone who tells you there is a lot to do in this game is a fucking lier.
It may sound like I'm raging at this point and to some extent I am, I spent $80 on the CE cause my cousin was planning to get it and he and I always play mmos togethor. But more then raging I want to prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did (see how caring I am).
There are massive lists out there of whats wrong with this game, take it from me everything on them is true. Not some, not a few of the gripes, all 100% of them are completely justified. To some up a few of the main things that got to me:
1. shitty UI and by shitty i mean laggy, clunky, not well organized (why do I have to click 10 different screens each time I want to make something? and why does each one have a good 5-10second delay inbetween them?).
2.There is lag everywhere, fighting there is lag, crafting there is lag, moving lag. Pushing your fighting buttons jus feels unresponsive, it's like push 1, push 1, push 1, bash 1 100 times and finally do 1 attack (all that for one attack). Then bash 2 or 3 or 4 whatever. They call it a stamina system I call it unresponsive crap.
3.Questing is lame it's 100% typical quest grinding kill 2 of these 3 of those 4 of that thing and come back to me. The crafting quests are basically the same make 2 of these and come back to me...awesome!
4. Crafting this is apprently what you are supposed to spend most of your time on, running around this is all I see people doing is crafting. The whole point of the game is a player run economy where players make all the armor/weps and sell them to one another. That would be fine but like I said before crafting is way too many screens to make one thing and there is a ton of lag inbetween each one so you end up taking forever to make one thing which is really annoying.
5. ITS SO FUCKING BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously the storyline quests are crap they are the most random story that didn't draw me in at all, and coming from a PvE game made by SE with the FF name I expect some interesting quests otherwise why am I playing?
6. They expect a monthly sub for this...yeah blow me.
I suppose I should say at least one good thing about the game and that is the graphics, they are really nice. If you run this game maxxed out it is beautiful, I mean you need a $2000+ gaming rig to do this with any kind of decent FPS but the graphics are really impressive.
So I really jus want anyone who is still on the fence about this game to wait on buying it. Wait and see if things get better in the future. One thing to keep in mind if you are coming from say FFXI is that FFXI was out in Japan a whole year before it came out in the US and by then it had been polished and improved. Right now FFXIV need a lot of work and is simply not worth the money. Sure theres gunna be a ton of fanboys and girls who say things like:
Fanboy: "Oh they're trying something new"
Me: "yeah but they failed"
Fanboy: "Go back to WoW noob"
Me: "Yeah that's a good idea WoW is better then this"
Fanboy: "This game doesn't hold your hand go back to your rails games"
Me: "Am I the only one who thinks of that Beatles song?
Jus a quick note I'm not a WoW fanboy though I did play it briefly when it came out back in the day and I can tell you WoW is better then this game. Anyways that enough of my rant I hope this saves at least one person from buying this game.

No, see. I look in to products before I buy them so I know what I'm actually getting into. I don't take the word of fanbois and trolls as gospel.
FF14 is a good game. Not our fault if people go in expecting some WoW/AoC/<Insert generic "modern" MMO here>
FFXIV is about as generic as any mmo, aside from the job system

Honestly, I believe SE never expected this game to do well on the PC. It's a direct PS3 > PC port with little done in the way of making it more compatible. Essentially, people purchased an unfinished product and are going to be used to provide SE feedback as to how to make the game better for their PS3 launch. Once the game hits the PS3, it will be the refined and ready game people were looking for, but it's certainly not that on the PC currently. It was after all built from the ground up for the PS3.
I have never wanted or want to buy any of the FF games as they look crap anyway and when more people do buy them then they will keep making them. When I use the term look I do not mean just visually but in general too, never liked their control system and that's just a few things cartoony images ectra... You get my drift and I hope that most of the people who have invested to get to have some fun from the game or that would be just criminal imo.

yea i waste like 80$ for ce...stupid ass game. is this game make in 2000 or what? everything is just fkin old and outdate well only the graphic is improving, took me 10 secs to selll 1 item to npc and the mobs take 4ever to respawn? lol f u. no AH or search option? it'll take u 1 -2 days to craft 1 armor and take 4ever to make a weapon god..i am lvl 15 lancer but still using lvl 1 weapon lmao..fk squreenix give me back my money ;/. they should just stick to final fantasy single player NOT A FUKING MMOS...
This is the part where history keeps repeating itself. For every MMORPG that's in beta, there's a bunch of fans defending its lack of content saying, "its only beta, the launch will be better".
It rarely, if ever is.
What you see in the final month before release is pretty much what you're going to get folks, so if you don't like the open beta, odds are pretty good that you are not going to like it any more after launch.
And never, ever buy a CE or Pre-order if you are on the fence at all about a game, I'm now waiting till they're at least 3-6 months launched before even bothering to try.
Just started playing FE recently; it just hit its 1 year mark, and for a theme park game its actually pretty fun. And doesn't have many of the issues I recall reading about at launch.

The game is not that bad. Yea, it is kind of boring, but the graphics are beautiful. I have been playing Final Fantasy games since the 80's. I love the music in this game, reminds me of older FF games. Anyhow, I really can't say much, I cancelled my pre order than got my brothers buddy pass for 30 day free gameplay. Which I think is one of the best deals I have seen with any game. It's like buy one get one free, tbh. 30 day free gameplay? And I get in before the actual official release? It's like I bought the CE myself and got a 30 day sub. You can't beat that. I may feel different if I spent the actual 80 dollars.
So far I kinda like it, but I am still trying to figure out all the ins and outs of this game. Good time killer for me, I am bored right now, and needed something demanding to put my beast machine to the test, and FF14 is just that.

However, what you should be saying is: "FF14 is a good game. Not our fault if people go in expecting a complete game." Let's face it, the game isn't all that great. Sure it can be fun, sure some people will enjoy it, but you can't really come here saying it's a complete and total package, because it's not.
The best way I can describe FFXIV is that it's like those super market Jaffa Cake knock-offs. They're still good and if you're desperate enough you will buy them, but they'll never be as good as real Jaffa Cakes. Mmm...., Jaffa Cakes. And regardless of how many people tell you, "hey, those knock off Jaffa Cakes aren't as good as the real Jaffa Cakes", you're going to eventually buy them and try them.... because you were there and they were there and there was nothing else.
You only have yourself to blame for buying a game you never actually liked in the first place. You try to justify it by saying this and that about the game but like you said, "Wow is a better game". So instead of trying to put a bad label on a game that is beyond your "Wow" subpar level of playing ability, play your dull, boring, uninspiring, kiddish, World of Warcraft game. And leave the games where you have to actually "work" for your gear or levels to the rest of us that enjoy doing so.
Plenty to keep you busy for months if you love crafting, trying out different classes and stuff and enjoy playing in groups.

I got into the beta.. played a few hours, explored the map a little bit....
never logged in after that...
It's just another mmo... nothing impressive here...
Crafting, classes, and playing in groups are mechanics/in-game systems, not content.

Yeah, this is something I thought, too. Kinda weird to tout such things as the entire reason to play FFXIV. Seems like people are so entrenched in the game, they'd do anything to convince themselves its a good game and justify their $80 they spent >.<.
